Why Did You Wear That: You Can Ring My Biel

jessica biel fendiLet’s go ahead and start off by saying it takes a whole heck of a lot to make Jessica Biel look bad.  That face, that hair, that body.  She’s working with all the right equipment, so when I saw this picture of her traipsing all over Paris in this over the top get up, I had to hold an intervention.  Girl, why so much?  At first I just assumed this had to be a costume for some upcoming movie role about an 80′s hair band or something, but lo and behold, she was just shopping at Fendi.  Yikes.  To be fair, I’d actually like each of the pieces if worn individually, but the combination of the jacket, top, pants, and boots is just too much.  I like studs as much as the next gal, but this just seems to be a bit overkill.  Thoughts?

Look for Less: Teen Queens

Sunday night Hollywood’s hottest headed to the 2011 Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles.  While this isn’t quite the Met Costume Gala and may be frowned upon by the fashion elite, I always like seeing the fresh young faces in more casual, carefree attire.  This year, the stunning starlets certainly did not disappoint.  Below are a few of my favorite looks.  I’ve recreated each to show you that looking red carpet ready is as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Why Did You Wear That: Falling Flat
Written by: WhyDid | Would You Wednesday

A trend you can look forward to this spring is a wobbly one.  We’ve seen wedges and espadrilles season after season, but this year our wedges are falling a little flat.  Literally.  Wedges have taken a bit of a different shape and I’m not sure I like it.  Instead of making your feet look teeny like they usually do, these flat footed shoes makes you look more like you’re wearing snowshoes.  They’re sort of like a pontoon boat, no?  But alas, there may be no escaping these wonky wedges as Michael Kors, Phillip Lim 3.1, and Fendi have all docked their boats at the marina (sorry, too much?).

What are your feelings on these clodhoppers?

Ahoy!

Why Did You Wear That: Put Some Spring in Your Step
Written by: WhyDid | Why Did You Wear That?

Finally the clouds have parted and Mother Nature is giving us a big sunshine filled kiss called spring. So what’s a girl to wear? We wondered the same thing as we attempted to get dressed for brunch this past weekend. We’ve stashed our winter coats and snow boots, but what shall we replace them with? Breaking down some of the big trends on the Spring 2010 runways:

Forward March- Looks like the military jacket will stick around another season. Swap one into your spring rotation for your updated warm weather outerwear.

Mixed Bag- A fun trend on this season is the bold mixing and matching of prints. Done head to toe in one pattern or mixing complimentary patterns will give you a head turning look.

Everything’s Coming Up Roses- Floral patterns were running rampant on the runways.  Whether Laura Ashley’esque or Painterly prints, it’s time to water your girly seed and sport some florals for spring.

087mRalph Lauren

00210mCollette Dinnigan

Tit for Tat- Finally, something I’ve been doing for years is being validated on the runway. Sheer and sexy, models showed their underpinnings as much as their outerwear.

028mFendi

043mProenza Schouler

044mRochas

In the Nude- Neutrals were big on the runway. One in particular was nude. Get naked.

Peekaboo!- Another one of my favorite trends from the runways was the amount of cut out dresses being shown. They are very, very sexy in an unconventional way.

Ruffle Your Feathers- A fun and flirty alternative to fur? Feathers. Just don’t go overkill and end up looking like Big Bird. One feathered piece at a time.

A Shine of the Times- Recession? What recession? Shine and shimmer were all over the runways giving the luxe look. Shine isn’t just for evening. Dress up your everyday look with something shiny.

00630mMichael Kors

00140mEmilio Pucci

Speaking of shiny, get out your AmEx cards, girls. Adding a few key pieces can re-vamp what’s already going on in your closet.

10 Things I Dislike ALMOST As Much As Leggings Worn As pants

obnoxious

I think it’s pretty clear how I feel about leggings worn as pants, but there are more things in the world that disturb me nearly as much.  Here’s the top ten:

  1. True Religion jeans. No need to explain again.
  2. Rude men.  I don’t like rude people in general, but a rude man is the worst.  What happened to being a gentleman?
  3. Blowing your nose in public.  There is a girl who sits near my desk at work and she has been blowing her nose continuously for the past two weeks. It’s taken everything in me not to just spazz out, especially when she ate tuna fish for lunch the other day.
  4. Know it alls.  You don’t know everything. Shut up.
  5. Dried apples. Had a bad experience as a five year old. Have never quite recovered.
  6. Logo handbags/clothing/etc.  It’s so passe, especially during a recession.  We get it, you have a Fendi bag.I won’t lie, I own a Louis Vuitton bag, but I couldn’t tell you the last time I carried it.  I try not to be a walking advertisement. I prefer the understated.  *Note: this rule goes out the window if your logo bag happens to be awesome and vintage.  That’s the only time it’s cool.
  7. Liars.  Maybe it is because I have the guiltiest conscience in the world and probably couldn’t tell a lie to save my life, but I really have a hard time understanding why people lie.  The truth hurts, but it also sets you free.
  8. Fake tans, fake nails, fake hair.  Gross, gross, grossest.  By fake tan, I do mean tanning beds.  I also mean poorly done self tanners.  Cancer and wrinkles aren’t sexy and neither is looking like a tangerine.  I don’t even know where to begin with fake nails and as far as fake hair, do you want to look like you have the same hairdresser as a Barbie doll?
  9. Catty, bitchy, jealous girls and cougars.  I have no time for petty girls/women who lack self confidence.  Please do not take out your insecurities on women who clearly have it going on.  Not our fault you don’t feel good about yourself.  Get a hobby.  That’s a good place to start.
  10. Pilling sweaters.  I hate those little nerd balls.  They never go away, do they?

So there you have it.  Things that ruffle my feathers almost as much as wearing leggings as pants (I’m sure I’ll think of more).  I realize I have just made myself incredibly vulnerable to people coming up to me and blowing their noses while wearing True Religions, but feels good to vent.  Send in some of your very least favorite things.
