The best part of fall? No, not pumpkin spice lattes (can we cool it with that, by the way?). Buying boots is by far my favorite part of fall and its fashion. The staple of the fall closet is always footwear. No matter what you’ve got on, if you don’t have the right shoes to seal the deal, you’re essentially screwed. Speaking of the end of summer, looks like school’s back in session. And even if you aren’t actually headed back to class, it seems that backpacks are making a bit of a comeback for fall. You may remember the tiny backpacks of the mid-90’s having a moment (oh, yes you do, Cher Horowitz), but this rendition is a bit bulkier and crafted in leathers and coated fabrics rather than canvases and corduroys… meaning you might actually be able to fit more in them than lip gloss and a tampon. Dare I say even a real— book?! And while these aren’t your run of the mill Jansports, I’m not sure I can get on board with the book bag look.

Setting the Mood: The End Is Near

It’s happening. That subtle cooling of the summer air. When I went to take Smitty out to stretch his morning legs the other day, there was a distinct difference in the breeze. Gone was the suffocating stuffiness. Instead I was greeted with a slightly chilled end of summer climate. This only means one thing: fall is fast approaching. So enjoy the last few weeks of strappy sundresses, easy espadrilles, and nearly nonexistent shorts, because very soon, we’ll be bundled up and longing for those steamy summer afternoons.

Why Did You Wear That: Being Angela Bower

It’s no secret how I feel about the current state of TV programming. Reality TV shows full of Kardashians and overpaid, undereducated wannabes. Why can’t we can some quality TV back? Remember TGIF? Those were the days. One of my absolute favorite TV shows is Who’s The Boss? I fall asleep watching that and Golden Girls. Seeing as I spend so much time with Angela and co., I started to notice that Angela had some pretty serious style.

I know, you’re thinking Sam (Alyssa Milano) was the hottie on Who’s the Boss? but let’s not sell Angela short. While you may only think of her as an uptight ad agency executive (remember when it was sexy for women to be smart?), Angela is the poster child of sportswear. Silk blouses, oversized blazers, pops of color, jumpsuits, and turtleneck tunics are a just a few of Angela’s style staples. Add some big hair and those large plastic frames and you too, could be running Wallace and McQuade.

Why Did You Wear That: Falling Flat

A trend you can look forward to this spring is a wobbly one. We’ve seen wedges and espadrilles season after season, but this year our wedges are falling a little flat. Literally. Wedges have taken a bit of a different shape and I’m not sure I like it. Instead of making your feet look teeny like they usually do, these flat footed shoes makes you look more like you’re wearing snowshoes. They’re sort of like a pontoon boat, no? But alas, there may be no escaping these wonky wedges as Michael Kors, Phillip Lim 3.1, and Fendi have all docked their boats at the marina (sorry, too much?).
