Friday Frocks: The Sparkle Dress

By |December 29th, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been salivating over the opportunity to channel your inner chandelier this New Year’s Eve.  If you’re not like me, well, then we covered you last week with the “anti-sparkle dress.”   New Year’s Eve is your time to shine.  Both literally and figuratively.  I think there are two completely appropriate times (and a free hall passes) to wear as much glimmery, shimmery, I’m a disco ball garb as you damn well please.  One is your birthday and the other is obviously New Year’s Eve.  In honor of one of the most overhyped holidays, here are twelve beautiful blinged out dresses to strut your stuff in that won’t leave you looking like a Las Vegas showgirl.

1. Parker All Over Sequin Tank Dress, $407, 2. Sheri Bodell Wrap Halter Dress, $348, 3. Tibi Metallic Halter Gown, $375, 4. The Addison Story Lurex Dress, $176.40, 5. Minuet Gilded Grecian Dress, $82.99, 6. Marc by Marc Jacobs Liv Sparkle Dress, $698, 7. Alice + Olivia Radha Beaded Shift Dress, $796, 8. MICHAEL Michael Kors Sequin Wrap Dress, $139, 9. J. Setting the Mood: Don’t Lose Sight

By |December 28th, 2011|Setting the Mood|

All that glitters is not gold.

Something clever I was told.

The stars that shine the most bright

Are the first to lose their light.

Although the glimmer is appealing

Don’t lose sight of your inner feeling.

Before you’re left out in the cold

Remember all that glitters is not gold.

Why Did You Wear That: A Charmed Life

By |December 27th, 2011|Why Did You Wear That?|

When it comes to accessorizing, I like to stick with tried and true.  This is an area of my wardrobe where I value quality over quantity.  I’d rather have some pieces that I will keep forever and ever than a drawer full of plastic beads and baubles.  One place I like to dangle bling is right around my neck.  I always have on at least one necklace… and most of the time will layer on three at a time in varying lengths.  Each of my necklaces is a simple gold chain with a pendant of significant meaning.  Not only is it a stylish way to wear your memories, it often becomes a great conversation starter (not that you have any trouble striking up a conversation with the cute guy at the bar next to you).  Just be sure to stow your jewels at night so as to avoid a very tangle morning.

1. Jennifer Zeuner Mini Wishbone Necklace, $121, 2. Monserat De Lucca Brass Labrador with Bone Necklace, $50, 3. Maya Brenner Designs California State Charm, $399, 4. Julie Tuton Wish Word Palliette Necklace, $95, 5. Gorjana Feather Pendant Necklace, $80, 6. Waxing Poetic Remedy in a Bottle Love Elixir Pendant, $150, 7. Monserat De Lucca Friendship Puzzle Necklace Set, $84, 8. Jennifer Meyer Gold Arrow Pendant Necklace, $850, 9. West Avenue Jewelry Monogram Disk Necklace, $105, 10. Philip Crangi 14 Karat Gold and Blackened Steel Letter Necklace, $755, 11. Ileana Makri for The Row Diamond Evil Eye Necklace,  $2,945

 1. Little Birch Jewelry Stand, $322. Etched Leaf Mirrored Jewelry Box, $48, 3. Grecian Goddess Bust $14.99

How very charming.

The List Volume LXII

By |December 24th, 2011|The List|

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, I had nothing to wear… not even a blouse.  The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, but it doesn’t matter til I’m done with my hair…

I’m no Grinch.  There are so many things I love about Christmastime, but let’s be serious… it can’t all be snowflakes and reindeer.  Let’s break down some of the beyond obnoxious parts about Christmas.  Be sure to leave your Christmas gripes in the comments.

  1. The pressure to pretend my Christmas is SO MUCH MORE FUN THAN YOURS AND I’M GOING TO DOCUMENT IT ALL ON FACEBOOK, TWITTER, INSTAGRAM, and ANY OTHER PLATFORM YOU CAN STALK ME ON.  Who are we kidding?  I’m hanging out with family doing the same thing you are.
  2. People who go into debt over holiday shopping.
  3. Candy canes.  Hate to point out the obvious but they’re just glorified peppermints- ‘cept harder to eat when you get down to that dumb hook part.
  4. Small talk with estranged family members.  Pass the yams, please.  I can’t explain what a blog is again.
  5. Gratuitous Facebook gift updates.  This isn’t acceptable past the age of 9.  And if you’re 9, then you shouldn’t even be on Facebook (or reading this blog).
  6. Having to feign delight over a truly shitastic gift.  Makes a gift card seem s a whole lot more appealing.
  7. Receiving an orange in your stocking.  I mean, come on.  That’s just filler.
  8. Knowing that my Christmas card (and smiling face) is about one week away from the garbage can.
  9. Your “Christmas Eve” outfit pics.  That’s cool, cause I’m in a giant T-shirt and leggings with a glass of wine and silly socks.
  10. Stowing away all the Christmas decorations and taking down the Christmas tree.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Friday Frocks: The Anti-Sparkle Dress

By |December 23rd, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

It was recently brought to my attention that not every woman is interested in decking herself out from head to toe in sequins, glitter, and sparkles.  I know.  I can hardly believe it myself.  Why would you not want to risk damaging the eyes of those around you with the blinding glimmer of your festive frock?  Mind boggling really.  Well, anyway, if you are one of the lovely ladies who is just not feeling all that glitters, it would prove to be somewhat difficult to navigate the racks and racks of embellished, beaded, and rhinestoned attire.  Lucky for you, I’ve found some absolutely cocktail party appropriate frocks with nary a sequin in sight.

1. Motel High Contrast Dress, $79.99, 2. Alice + Olivia Tamira Leather Bustier Dress, $596, 3. Parker Double Flared Sleeve Dress, $209, 4. Helmut Lang Long Drape Dress, $275, 5. Tibi Long Sleeve Dress with Cutout Back, $396, 6. Diane von Furstenberg Enny Dress, $375, 7. French Connection Shelby Stripe Pleat Dress, $198, 8. Porter Grey Sleeveless Dress, $385, 9. Tibi Silk and Lace Dress, $515, 10. Issa Short Kimono Dress, $595

And wouldn’t you know?  These dresses are the perfect solid palates to adorn with some sparkly accessories.
