In case you didn’t get the memo last fall, you’re going to need a leather dress come this autumn. The ultimate update to your standard LBD, leather will not only keep you warm thermostatically speaking, but will also have you looking hot literally speaking. Should you opt to go all in, a leather shift is a fantastic transitional piece that can eventually be layered over a turtleneck and tights. Feeling more modest? Opt for a frock with leather details or panels to achieve the same leather look.

I’m a huge fan of basically leather anything and have been pushing the trend since I was sixteen. I wore a leather dress to my sophomore year homecoming… and while that went over like a lead balloon with teachers and students alike, this season’s must have frock is sure to be a bigger hit with your classmates.

Beauty Buzz: The Fame

When asked to preview and review Lady Gaga’s latest project, her perfume, I was a bit hesitant. I mean, when’s the last time you’ve thought, “Dang, I wish there was an easier way for me to smell like blood and semen. Someone should bottle that!” But alas, I was intrigued, so I obliged.

Well, joke’s on me. After spending two years working with Haus Laboraties, Ms. Gaga’s first ever fragrance is quite surprising. The packaging is elegant, the bottle is edgy yet beautiful (and would look great on your vanity), and the smell is hardly reminiscent of body fluid– not that I’m familiar with such. The scent is actually quite sweet and feminine with notes of crushed Tiger Orchid, Jasmine Sambac, and apricot nectar. And while I would and have definitely worn this scent, I can’t help but wish it was a bit more unique. You know, the type of perfume that people can name the moment it hits their olfactories. What is unique, however, is that the liquid is black, but when sprayed is clear (though you can kinda see it on your skin for a brief moment). All in all, it’s a lovely scent that is sure to get all the little monsters hearts racing and crack a smile on even the straightest of poker faces. My only real complaint is that the scent lasts only about as long as 15 minutes of fame. I’d like it to last at least long enough for me to dance all night to Born This Way.

Real People, Real Style: Sister from Another Mister

I liked Amelia the moment I met her- and not just because she loved spicy tuna on crispy rice as much as I do. Then I found out her last name was also Smith and knew it was kismet. I think the deal was sealed for her when I quoted a Loretta Lynn song… either way, we’ve been friends ever since and I don’t plan on ditching her anytime soon… if ever. You see, Amelia is exactly the kind of girl I talk about all the time. Not only is she pretty, but she’s also smart. In between choosing the perfect shade of paint and sourcing one of a kind designer furniture, she’s also booking shows for New York Fashion Week. Time spent with Amelia is always fun. We can switch gears between chatting about our latest nail color obsession to deep spiritual conversations about our lives and the future of the universe. Also doesn’t hurt that Smitty’s smitten with her. So, here’s a bit more about Amelia and what makes her style so unique:

Fun fact: I was voted “Most Talented” out of my HS Class. It’s a notion that has carried over into adulthood. I like to do/and excel at multiple things. If I’m not engaging in more than one project at a time something is wrong.

Monday Mashup: Splitting Hairs

They say you should get a trim every 6-8 weeks depending on hairstyle and goals (If you are trying to grow out your locks, check out Lion Locs products). Seems that some folks get a bit scissor happy when heading to a men and women haircuts in Franklin, TN. Perhaps they’re bored, perhaps they’ve had a bad breakup. Whatever the case may be, somehow a trim turns traumatic when a millimeter turns into a mile. This week in celebrity hairstyles, we have a teen songstress and a lady loving crooner who both decided to change things up by chopping their locks. So, I’m just wondering, when is a haircut a good thing and when does it all go terribly wrong?

Man about about town, John Mayer, who recently split from Katy Perry (I know… that was what? Ten minutes?), was seen this weekend with newly shorn hair. Maybe John realized that Katy was simply dating him due to his hairy resemblance to ex, Russell Brand? Regardless, I vote his fresh crop a “do.” He’s creepy enough as is… the extra hair only added to his douchey demeanor. But now that his hair is no longer there to distract me, we’re gonna need to talk about that necklace…

And the teen queen of side boob, Miley Cyrus, also got a bit snippy recently. While she had been seen sporting a top knot almost daily (have you seen her bun’s Twitter account?), she must have taken the joke a bit too seriously and lobbed off her locks for a very short, very blonde Andy Warhol-esque look. Just when I was starting to think she was adorable, she cut her hair and it looks horrible.

But who cares what I think (you better!)? What do you think?
