Friday Frocks: I’d Like to Thank the Academy

By |February 25th, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

For Hollywood’s leading ladies, the Academy Awards are the Super Bowl of fashion.  While they’ve been trying out different looks during the Emmy’s and the Golden Globes and even the Grammy’s, tonight is their big night.  It’s do or die time.  Something I’ve noticed is that these stunning starlets have been able to snag looks literally right off the runways.  So, I did some hunting and gathering from Fall 2011’s runways to find some fabulous frocks that I would love to see make their way down the red carpet this weekend.

Everyone knows that it’s hard to go wrong in black.  However, black can sometimes be seen as dull and predictable.  These gorgeous frocks are anything but boring with embellishments, lace, and layers of tulle.

I love color on the red carpet.  While we’ve seen quite a bit of red and pink, I would love to see more blue and even more of the green that was such a big trend at the Golden Globes.  These dresses actually reminded me of peacock feathers and were a different take on patterns and texture.  I could see some of the more daring ladies slipping into some of these glorious gowns.

One trend that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon (which makes me very happy) is the metallic trend.  Whether it’s a shiny silver or a cool copper, there are sure to be several beauties wearing frocks with shimmer.

While I may or may not be dead on with these red carpet predictions, at least they’re something pretty to look at during your Friday afternoon homestretch to the weekend.

Friday Frocks: Heavenly Creations

By |February 18th, 2011|Friday Frocks|

I did not report on every last detail of New York Fashion Week- I like to leave that to the style obsessed.  My MO is to sit back, digest, filter out the garbage and focus on the fabulous.  Anyway, this week’s Friday Frocks is dedicated to all the beautiful creations that made their way down the runway this past week.  When I think of decadent, delicious frocks, I think of Vera, and Monique, and Oscar (oh my!).  I have to say, it’s kind of like someone read my mind, reached up to the heavens and pulled down these pretty pieces to fill me with girlish delight.  My very favorite colors are those of sunsets and evening skies, so I was beside myself to see all these beautiful frocks derived from that color palette.

Fall 2011 is shaping up to be a very stylish season.  I look forward to watching the starlets storm the red carpets in these beautiful frocks.

Friday Frocks: Under Where?

By |February 11th, 2011|Friday Frocks|

You thought I was going to do a Friday Frocks with all kinds of red and pink dresses, didn’t you?  C’mon, give me a little credit!  Being someone who loves lingerie as much as I do, I jumped at the chance to leverage the upcoming Valentine’s holiday to highlight some sexy chemises sure to impress anyone lucky enough to lay eyes upon them.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be all about raunchy red lingerie (I’m talking to you, Frederick’s).  A sexy chemise is much more subtle, yet just as effective in catching a special someone’s attention.  Rolling solo?  I don’t see why you shouldn’t wear one while doing the dishes or giving yourself an at home mani.  Smitty always appreciates when I do!

Top (L to R): Betsey Johnson Thorny Chiffon Babydoll, $75, La Perla Passion de Fleur Chemise, $350, Stella McCartney Clara Whispering Silk Satin Chemise, $300, La Perla Greta Chemise, $345

Bottom (L to R): Agent Provocateur Uschi Slip, $590, Only Hearts Stretch Lace Tie Back Chemise, $57, Flora Nikrooz Romantic Tiered Ruffled Chemise, $124, Body Wrap Slip Shaper, $78

Dress up to get down.

Friday Frocks: Some Day My “Prints” Will Come

By |January 28th, 2011|Friday Frocks|

Once upon a time there was a fair maiden with a closet full of beautiful black frocks.  She wore her always chic, always sophisticated staple pieces day in and day out without putting too much thought into it.  One day, she tired of looking like all the other maidens in the land and decided to spice things up a bit.  She did so by adding colors and patterns into her daily routine.  She was already lovely, but in her new fun and flirty frocks, she stood out from the rest.  This caused her to catch the eye of a very handsome prince.  He appreciated her independent spirit and confidence.

L to R: Nanette Lepore Go Getter Printed Dress, $298, Herve Leger Geometric Print Mini Dress, $1,850, Thakoon Floral Print Peasant Dress, $665, Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent High Low Tank Dress, $335, Topshop Navy Petal Print Notch Tea Dress, $78

L to R: Parker Print Ruffle Dress, $195, Joie Perrier Silk Floral Printed Dress, $228, Matthew Williamson Escape Printed Silk Chiffon Dress, $1,350, RebeccaTaylor Leopard Print Ruffle Dress, $295, Alice and Olivia Matilda Boquet Print Dress, $367

After seeing how these prints caught the prince’s attention, all the other maidens followed suit.  Luckily, with so many options in color, prints, and patterns, none of the maidens ever looked the same.

And they all lived happily ever after.

Friday Frocks: It’s My Party

By |January 21st, 2011|Friday Frocks|

Every girl wants to look great on her special day.  Most guys really just don’t seem to understand how important the “birthday dress” is.  Probably because they are much more interested in our “birthday suits.”  Last night, before dinner at Cecconi’s , I fussed about not having a birthday dress.  Someone pointed out that I had a ton of dresses in my closet.  “But they are all blaaaack!” I whined.  Luckily, after a little digging, I found a dress I had yet to wear and it wasn’t black! Crisis averted.  I avoided the birthday blues, but I suggest planning ahead of time.  Here are some very fun, very “birthday” dresses.

(L to R): Red Valentino Sequin Embellished Tulle Dress, $795, Herve Leger Geometric Pattern Party Dress, $2,500, Vera Wang One Shoulder Tulle Bustier Dress, $2,300, BCBG One Shoulder Tulle Dress, $398

(L to R): Alice and Olivia Vanda Bandage Shift Dress, $596, Nicole Miller Sequin and Tulle Dress, $485, Young Fabulous and Broke Hazel Dress, $295, Foley and Corinna Beaded Godet Dress, $490

Cry if you want to.
