Beauty Buzz: Blushing Beauty

By |March 29th, 2012|Beauty Buzz|

peach cheeks spring 2012The runways were taken over with peachy perfect complexions for Spring 2012.  Everyone from Michael Kors to Preen sent their lovely ladies down the catwalk with cheeks juicier than Georgia peaches.  That means that peachy cheeks are certain to be on trend this spring.  Does that mean I have to ditch my beloved Benetint?  (Um, never).  But in the off chance that I wanted to trade in my typical flushed cheeks for something a bit softer, I went out and purchased Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Blissful.

Peach Blush

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Blissful, $25

The color is true to the packaging and is also totally buildable,  So, does it last twelve hours?  Meh… not so much.  You  may need a 3 o’clock touch up (kinda like that 3 o’clock coffee break) to revive the color, but I would absolutely recommend this nutrient rich, perfect shade of peach to capitalize on one of this spring’s prettiest makeup trends.

Beauty Buzz: Brow Down

By |March 22nd, 2012|Beauty Buzz|

famous eyebrowsLong gone are the days of over tweezed and drawn on eyebrows.  The full brow is back and better than ever as seen on the Spring 2012 runways.  Everyone from Naeem Khan to Derek Lam channeled their Brooke Shields a la The Blue Lagoon. In seasons past, the bleached brow had made an appearance, but this spring, it’s all about the statement making power brow.

filled in brows I suffer from having fairly light and fairly thin eyebrows naturally, so I have to fill them in just to make ’em look normal using  Tarte’s EmphasEYES brow pencil in Taupe on a day to day basis.   Rosie Huntington Whitely swears by Laura Mercier’s Brow Powder.  It’s time to find your power tool for banging brows.  The look is full, groomed, and face framing.  It is also important to find the right shape for your face as well.  I have found that just having a groomed brow makes me immediately appear more polished and adds an extra impact to my eyes.

brow enhancers1. Anastasia Beverly Hill Beauty Express for Brows and Eyes, $39.50, 2. Laura Mercier Brow Powder Duo, $24, 3. Amazing Cosmetics Brow Gel, $14, 4. Tarte EmphasEYES For Brows, $19.50, 5. Too Faced Cosmetics Brow Envy Kit, $35, 6. Revlon Colorstay Brow Enhancer, $7.74

Beauty Buzz: Crystal Light

By |March 1st, 2012|Beauty Buzz|

hair flipLike many girls, I’m pretty obsessed with my hair.  I would even rank it as one of my best features (and I have so many).  So, I spend a lot of time (and sometimes money) trying to take great care of my beloved hair.  Whether it be taking mass quantities of vitamins or test driving the latest deep conditioners, I’m always on the lookout for the split end savior.

When the king of haircare, Kerastase, was kind enough to send me the latest and greatest from their line, I couldn’t wait to hop in the shower and lather up.  Cristalliste is specifically formulated for ladies with long locks (like me) and the goal is to nourish hair while leaving it light and airy.  I swear, this stuff was created for me.  It addresses all of my follicle fears (and the packaging is PINK!).

kerastase crystallisteI’ve since used the products twice (I like to go on a couple of dates before making any judgements) and I have to say, I’m a convert.  Hair feels silky, but light as a feather.  Long hair tends to get heavy, but Crystalliste leaves hair super shiny and soft without being the slightest bit weighed down by heavy conditioners (silicone, paraben, and colorant free!).  Oh and did I mention it smells like heaven?

Because Cristalliste cleanses your roots and nourishes your lengths and ends, it is perfect for us ladies who are doing the ombre hair thing (whether intentional or not).  While getting my hair trimmed a month or so ago, my stylist said to me, “You need to put back in what you take out of your hair by styling and coloring.  Your standard drugstore suds just won’t do.”  Well, thank goodness for Kerastase.  Keep your eyes peeled this month when Cristalliste will be available at a salon near you.

Beauty Buzz: The Look of Love

Beauty Buzz: Yes… They’re Real

By |January 26th, 2012|Beauty Buzz|

Now I remember why I don’t turn on the TV before I’ve done all my writing, editing, and all around important things.  Lifetime Movies.  How is one supposed to get anything done when 15 and Pregnant (starring a youthful Kirsten Dunst) is on?  It’s like a black hole.  You just get sucked in and then there’s no stopping it.  One twisted movie after the next.  Before you know it, it’s 5pm and you’re still in your jammies and they’re may be an entire bag of tortilla chips missing.  Well, as you know (or maybe you don’t… in which case you’re missing out), a good Lifetime Movie will get even the staunchest soul working those tear ducts.  So, you’re going to need some expensive mascara to cry off.  That’s where my latest beauty find comes in.

Remember when I tried out Maybelline Volum’ Express Falsies Flared Mascara?  Yeah, not so good.  Well, I may have stumbled upon the Holy Grail of mascaras… maybe.  I had heard a few people going on and on about  Benefit They’re Real Mascara.  Now, we all know how deep my love runs for Benefit Benetint… if I can expand on this love fest, game on.  Below, check out my trial of  Benefit They’re Real Mascara.

Now, when I tested out Benefit They’re Real Mascara the first time, I wasn’t sold.  The texture isn’t so good the first couple of applications.  I also didn’t realize it was making such a big difference until I tried it up against a fan favorite, Christian Dior Diorshow Extase (I’m wearing Benefit They’re Real on the left and Diorshow on the right).  Whoa!  This mascara is no joke.  You may not be able to tell in these photos, but the difference is substantial.

Final verdict?  Basically, this mascara is telling false eyelashes to suck it.  You will not need them once you get the hang of this high impact, super sexy mascara.

Oh… but we’re not done here.  Today’s a twofer.  Because this mascara is so dramtic, you’re going to need a good makeup remover to get it off.  Nope, not even a Lifetime Movie marathon or your average cleanser is going to get rid of this stuff.  Behold NARS Makeup Cleansing Oil.  This magic potion will not only banish your mascara, it will get rid of any and all traces of makeup.  I have very sensitive eyeballs, and this doesn’t hurt or irritate my peepers a bit.  It also won’t leave you shiny or greasy.  Might I add the crowning glory?  Looks great on your vanity.  I call that a win, win, win… and who doesn’t like to win?  Not me.

Now back to She Woke Up Pregnant.
