Why Did You Wear That: On the Fringe

By |February 26th, 2009|Why Did You Wear That?|

flapper

I can’t lie, I’m obsessed with this spring’s fringe trend.  I love it.  Maybe I was secretly a flapper/hippie in a past life.  Either way, I suggest you jump on the bandwagon and add a little fringe to your life.  Whether you go all out in a flapper-esque skirt, fringed boot, or simple fringe jewelry, there are many ways to incorporate this fun and flirty trend into your wardrobe. Here are a few ideas how: (more…)

C’mon, Vogue.

By |February 25th, 2009|Uncategorized|

Setting all political affiliation aside, I am a little put off by the March Vogue cover.  Really? Michelle Obama?  I’m going to get shot for saying this (when has that ever stopped me?), but a) she is not much to look at (sorry, told you) and b) she is in no way shape or form a style icon.  Granted she is, I’m sure, a wonderful, smart, interesting woman, but she is not Vogue cover worthy, I’m sorry.  Save her inspirational, uplifting stories about how she is a great mother and rules the roost even though her hubby is president for Time. She is the first lady, not a covergirl.

obama

Which leads me to my real point, since when did models stop gracing the covers of magazines?  Why have they been evicted from the supermodel throne by these sassy little starlets?  Call me crazy, but isn’t that what models do?  Now they are just stuck with the editorials, ad campaigns, runway shows, and (gasp) showroom appointments?  (more…)

Why Did You Eat That: Best Sushi ^3

By |February 20th, 2009|New York, Why Did You Eat That?|

cube

Forget Nobu, forget Bond St. I have found the best sushi in the city.

I  heard about this place a couple of years ago, back when I was way too cool to venture down to the LES (Lower East Side), but last weekend, I made the trip and let me tell you, totally worth the cab fare.

I’m talking about Cube63.  Yes, this is probably old news to some of you, but for those of you who have yet to step out of their trendy comfort zone, I suggest you try it.  It is tiny and unassuming and most people couldn’t figure out how to open the door.  You must make a reservation and they take their reservations very seriously.  Stroll in fifteen minutes late and they probably gave your table away.  I have no idea what we actually did order, I let the man of the table take care of that, but everything I put in my mouth was absolutely delicious.  Typically, I like to know what I’m eating, but I didn’t care.  It was that good.

*Added bonus- it’s BYOB!  Gotta love that 🙂

Why Did You Wear That: Did You NOT Get the Memo?

By |February 19th, 2009|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

So apparently, not everyone got the memo about what kind of shorts are deemed “acceptable” as winter shorts.  Walking around yesterday, I spotted not one, but THREE girls sporting cut off denim shorts and tights.

I get it, you love tights, you love cut off shorts… why not just wear them together?? Because it looks stupid.  That’s why.  I love tights and denim shorts myself, but not together.  And I understand you’re feeling a little confused about this bipolar weather we’ve been experiencing in New York lately, but hold off on the cut-offs. It’s still only February.

Maybe some photos will help you reconsider your choice of mixing tights and Daisy Dukes: (more…)
