Weekend Playlist: Mixtape Memories

By |July 16th, 2011|Weekend Playlist|

Since this weekend is clearly all about LOVE, I went ahead and channeled my 6th grade self by making a love song “mixtape.”  Come on, tell me you don’t remember making “tapes” for your crush.  No?  CD’s? Man I’m old…

Anyway, allow yourself to get into the mood with these sweet, sweet love songs.

Gotta go. My pager’s blowing up.

The List Volume XLIX

By |July 15th, 2011|The List|

Every now and then I like to do a list of joyous things.  I know people look forward to hearing which wretched social offenses will make the list each week (or maybe are just checking to see if they made the list), but this week (today in particular) I feel so thankful, that it only feels right to express that.  I have far too much to be grateful for to complain.

You see, a year ago, I boarded a plane from JFK to LAX.  I had no idea at that time that one trip would change the entire course of my life, but it did.  Without revealing all details of the story (it will make a much better novel- and perhaps big budget film), I found myself in a real life love story.  I never used my return ticket.  I changed the return date a few times before just canceling it altogether.  And here I am.

  1. Craft stores (namely Michaels).
  2. Light up floors.  I mean, why not?
  3. Surprises.  Especially those of the birthday kind.
  4. Hot air balloon rides.
  5. Wedding cake samples (even if they spelled my name wrong…)
  6. My parents’s wedding pictures (and my mom’s hooded bridesmaids!).
  7. Being greeted at the airport with absolutely ridiculous helium balloons.
  8. Dry erase tables.  How cool is that?
  9. The smell of jasmine. Intoxicating.
  10. Ocean views.

Why Did You Wear That: Destination Unknown

By |July 14th, 2011|Why Did You Wear That?|

Today I was told to pack a suitcase.  No, not like the, “Get out of my house and get to steppin’ you, crazy bitch!” kind of suitcase.  More of the romantic surprise getaway and I’m not telling you wheeeeere suitcase.  See, tomorrow is my beloved and my anniversary.  I know.  I found myself a true Romeo (no, seriously, he’s a dream come true).  I have no idea where we’re headed, but wait til he gets a load of his gift.  (That’s what you get for marrying a writer, honey).  Anyway, I’m not that great at packing to begin with, so throwing me a curveball like this makes stuffing my suitcase that much more difficult.

Since I know you ladies are just as lovely, I don’t doubt that something like this will also happen to you.  So, to help you out, I’ve figured out how to pack for a destination unknown.  The key is versatility.  Pack things that can be both dressed up and dressed down.  Be sure to tuck a pair of flats (or comfortable shoes) along with some sexy stilettos in your bag.  To jazz up your daytime attire, be sure to bring your bling.  Accessories are crucial in taking any outfit from casual to cosmopolitan.

1. LNA Sunglasses, $195, 2. Michael Kors Leather Clutch, $395, 3. Diane von Furstenberg Camargue  20″ Rolling Duffle Bag, $200, 4. Eberjey Fairy Tales Teddy, $72, 5. Free People Polynesian Princess Romper, $118, 6. Cia.Maritima Leopard Print Top, $48 and Bottom, $68, 7. T-Bags Maxi Dress, $185, 8. Wyatt Heather Grey Cashmere Waterfall Cardigan, $169, 9. Amrita Singh Reversible Resin Necklace, $300, 10. Kenneth Jay Lane Satin Finish Bracelet, $150, 11. Co-Op Barney’s New York Flat Metallic Sandal, $330, 12. Bottega Veneta Strappy Wooden Sandal, $1,015

Don’t forget your sunglasses and something sexy.  No matter where you’re headed, just remember, you’re there to have fun and clearly your honey thinks you’re pretty spectacular already.

Setting the Mood: California Dreaming

By |July 11th, 2011|Setting the Mood|

Coming from New York, Los Angeles never really grew on me.  Tried as I did, I just couldn’t get into it.  Not even the perfectly placed palm trees or toned tanned skin could sway me.  I just didn’t jive with the City of Angels.

That is, until I moved up the coast to San Francisco.  Isn’t it funny how one thing can make you appreciate another?  Needless to say, after yet another freezing cold (not kidding- it’s 40 something degrees today) grey Monday, I can’t help but yearn for sunshine and convertibles.  I would even tolerate the bebe clad girls of Hollywood and Affliction t-shirted douchebags of yore for just one sun filled afternoon and a reason to slip on my Oliver Peoples.

But alas, I must endure the city by the bay for just a little while longer…

Weekend Playlist: Turtle Dance Party

By |July 9th, 2011|Weekend Playlist|

Yes, this playlist is called Turtle Dance Party.  Yes, that is also how it is saved in my iTunes.  No, we won’t get into that nickname today.  All you need to know is that this playlist will make even the slowest of turtles wanna come out of his shell.

For the last several weeks this is all I have listened to on the train, during my workouts, painting my nails…. cause my USB cords just keep magically disappearing preventing me from creating anything new… Who am I kidding?  I love this mix.
