Monday Mashup: Geek Chic?

By |October 25th, 2010|Monday Mashup|

The Fashion Police on E! recently cited The Social Network and Justin Timberlake as the catalysts for the onslaught of people wearing geek glasses.  A couple things: 1) Justin (aka Sean Patrick) didn’t even wear these glasses in the movie, 2) this “trend” started way before this movie. I blame hipsters trying to look ironic.

As a girl who actually needs her glasses to read, I find it incredibly obnoxious that glasses are now “trending.” Now that I found the perfect cool pair of plastic Chanel frames, I cringe when putting them on hoping that others don’t look at me as a trend chaser. What do you guys think? Is it totally lame to wear “fake” glasses?

Friday Frocks: Color Me Fall

By |October 22nd, 2010|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

While driving out in the country of PA (Pennsylvania) today, I was inspired by the amazing fall foliage. I started to forget what it looked like. You don’t get much of that in New York… and well, it just doesn’t even happen in LA. So, in tribute to the colors of fall, here’s this week’s Friday Frocks:

Barlow Velvet Power Dress, $272
Barlow Lattice Back Mini Dress, $297

Eight Sixty Wrap Dress, $118

Elizabeth and James Isis Dress, $365

Yellow is Gold by Sunshine & Shadow Silk Shirtdress, $78

Angelina Short Dress, $69

Parker Double Flare Sleeve Dress, $220

Free People Rendezvous Lace Dress, $138

Why Did You Wear That: Taylor Momsen

By |October 22nd, 2010|Celebrity Style|

Yikes….Here’s Taylor Momsen while performing with her band, Pretty Reckless, on Thursday night for the Paper Magazine/Express fashion show afterparty. I mean, is she practicing for Halloween? Tay Tay, it’s another week away… but you do look totally spooky. Come to think of it… thanks for the Halloween costume idea.

I have a hard time believing this guitar smashing girl is only seventeen years old. What do you suppose her mother thinks?

Granted, her outfits are a little over the edge… I must admit, she’s pretty freaking talented.

The List Volume XXIV

By |October 22nd, 2010|The List|

This week I had the pleasure of heading back to my favorite city, New York City. Being here has made me realize there is certainly a reason (or at least ten) it trumps anywhere else (ahem- talking to you Los Angeles). Here’s a shortened list of all the reasons I love NY (and you should too):

  1. A pair of fake boobs won’t get you too far.
  2. When you ask people a question here, they actually know what they’re talking about. If they don’t know the answer, they’ll tell you as opposed to blowing smoke up you’re a**.
  3. A mass transit system that is efficient and people actually use it.
  4. You can get anything you want. Anytime. Anywhere.
  5. No need for a car. Consider taxi drivers your personal chauffeurs.
  6. Women here are naturally beautiful… and smart.
  7. The fashion. The clothes. The shopping. People don’t look like rejects from Millionaire Matchmaker.
  8. There is a sense of camaraderie. They may hate those from the “bridge and tunnel”  set, but they sure do love each other.
  9. Culture. There’s art, museums, theater, and history.
  10. People in NY know what they want. There’s no changing your mind when you get the front of the line at Starbucks.

All hail the Big Apple.

Would You Wednesday: Mischa Barton

By |October 20th, 2010|Why Did or Why Don't?|

I had someone entirely different all picked out until I stumbled upon this…

Oh- hey Mischa. How ya been? Where ya been? Sleep lately? What the eff? She nearly looks unrecognizable. I mean…

Mischa, I’m not sure what’s happening here or if I even want to know. What happened to pretty Marissa from The O.C.? Can we have her back? SOMEBODY give this girl a role in something. Sigh. Anna Kendrick, you can go ahead and thank Mischa for saving your a**.
