Why Did You Wear That: Black Dress, Jean Shirt

By |August 17th, 2014|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

lbd day to night how toPerhaps your need to be discreet regarding last night’s outfit is a bit more innocent than the aforementioned instance.  After a beautiful dinner complete with across the table hand holding with your beau, you both awake with a hankering for Eggs Benedict, but seeing as you are not (as of yet) co-habitating, you’ve got to work with what you’ve got.  And isn’t that what life is all about?  A swanky dinner at Claudette called for the perfect little black dress (a favorite LBD of mine worn two ways here and here) and sexy stilettos.  As stunning as you looked last night strolling past tables packed with wealthy Wall Street types and their girlfriends who smacked them for gawking, wearing the same thing this morning to Bubby’s may raise some eyebrows for entirely different reasons.  An incredibly simple way to disguise your enticing ensemble is to simply tie a denim or chambray shirt around you (a flannel variation would work as well) and embrace the uptown/downtown amalgation by also embracing your bed head with a simple rope braid (learn how here).  You’ll look so “devil may care” that the only reason someone’s head may turn this time is to figure out which tabloid star you are.  Order a mimosa for me.denim shirt scotch and soda nyc whydid

Friday Frocks: Flip It & Reverse It

By |June 6th, 2014|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

Not only are double duty beauty products helpful for packing, so are dresses that are multifunctional and able to be worn in more than one way. Whether it’s a maxi dress that moonlights as a skirt or a frock that’s altogether reversible, having options that take up half the space are magic in and of themselves.  So, pack light, put your thing down, flip it, and reverse it.

Friday Frocks (Except Not): One for the Money

By |June 14th, 2013|Friday Frocks|

Speaking of one pieces… this week let’s ditch the frocks for something less formal.  While a onesie can still be dressed up for a night out on the town, sometimes a gal needs a little coverage of the crotchal region.  Maybe you’ll be tackling the new Citi Bikes, or perhaps there are high kicks in your future, in any case, a little bit of modesty goes a long way.  What better way than in a jumpsuit or romper?  (Answer: there is no better way).

Friday Frocks: Festival Ready

By |April 12th, 2013|Friday Frocks|

bohemianWhether you’re planning on getting down and dirty at a music festival or just bopping around town running errands this weekend, there is no better time than now to channel your inner Stevie Nicks.  You know she’s been itching to get out.  The look is effortlessly feminine with just a little bit of edge.  Take it easy with the footwear, opting for flat sandals or suede booties and leave hair loose and tousled.  Layer long necklaces and don’t be afraid to load on the bangles.

Why Did You Wear That: Soak It In

By |August 25th, 2011|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

A month or so ago, I had the pleasure of staying at the Napa River Inn and while the entire place was quite magical, one of my favorite parts was the beautiful claw foot bathtub. To be honest, the only thing better than soaking all your troubles away in a beautiful big tub with fizzy bath salts is doing so with a big fizzy glass of sparkling wine. While I couldn’t document said activities on WhyDid without getting a stern email from my father, I couldn’t pass up the chance to snap some photos of this beautiful (and my dream) bathroom.

Lace pants and a silky top were perfectly sexy and sophisticated for a romantic Saturday night dinner in Napa (not so much for a bath). Accessorized with shiny metallic sandals and my go to bangles for just the right amount of sparkle.

1. Leyendecker Chopper Blouse, $231, 2. Love Moschino Black Cropped Lace Trousers, $376.20, 3. MAC Lipstick in Russian Red, $14.50, 4. Alex & Ani Set of 7 Gold Dimpled Bangles, $74.99, 5. Jimmy Choo Buzz Platform Sandals, $628

That’s the only time Smitty has been anxious to hop in the tub, FYI.
