Weekend Playlist: The Anti-Valentine
Written by: WhyDid YouWearThat | Weekend Playlist

anti valentines daySo, let’s say you’re not into the love fest that is Valentine’s Day.  Nothing wrong with that (and you are not alone, my friend).  Some of my most fun Valentine’s Days were not spent lamenting love, but cutting loose with friends instead.  Whether that included cupcakes and sappy rom-com’s at home or dancing on tables at Cipriani, a playlist was needed.  I found it much easier than expected to compile a list of songs that will have love as the furthest thing from your mind.

Monday Mashup: Give Me Some Lip
Written by: WhyDid YouWearThat | Monday Mashup,Poll,Red Carpet Recap

Natalie Portman in custom Lanvin, Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace

Okay, let me just start off by saying that both Natalie and Angelina are two of the most beautiful women on the planet (let alone the red carpet), so this is, by no means, a personal attack or me “being a hater.” That said, I really disliked both of their gowns at last night’s Golden Globe Awards. While they both wore different colors, and slightly different necklines, they both had a little lip of red on their gowns. To me, these both look like bad Valentine’s Day cards, or perhaps boxes of cheap drugstore chocolates. Natalie is beyond petite and this dress is just too much for her tiny frame. I also love the mixing of pink and red (as shown here), but in this instance, it just does not work.

Speaking of tiny, Angelina has never looked more thin (not a compliment). I do not care for the matchy matchy or her “lip,” lips, bag, (and I assume shoes). To me, this dress does not look modern at all. It reminds me of something Aunt Gertrude once wore to a country club social. I applaud her for stepping out of her comfort zone, but hope that she does not get too comfortable in this zone either.

While my opinion is probably not popular with some of you (weird)… I hope at least a few of you are in agreement. So, I’m wondering, whose “lip” do you love?

Kiss off.

Why Did You Eat That: Get in the Mood with Food
Written by: WhyDid YouWearThat | Recipes,Why Did You Eat That?

We’ve all heard the saying, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” and while it may sound trite, they may be right. Some of you probably already have plans to cook up something delicious for your mate, but before you start clanging around in the kitchen and setting off the fire alarm, why not try these easy, delicious and libido enhancing recipes?

Oysters with Frozen Champagne Mignonette

  • 24 fresh oysters
  • 1/4 cup shallots
  • 3/4 cup pickled ginger
  • 1/2 cup dry champagne
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp fresh ground black pepper
  • 3/4 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp chopped chives

Directions:

  • In a food processor, combine shallots, ginger, champagne, sugar, pepper, and vinegar. Puree on medium-high for one minute. Pour mixture into a pie plate and freeze for several hours.
  • Clean and shuck the oysters, then place them on a serving platter. Just before serving, remove champagne mignonette from freezer and scrape one teaspoonful onto each oyster. Sprinkle each oyster with chopped chives and serve immediately.

Why this will put you in the mood:

Zinc.  Healthy levels of zinc are linked to the production of testosterone in both men and women and that means a higher libido for both of you.  Not to mention oysters are very phallic (use your imagination).

Dark Chocolate Covered Strawberries

  • 6 ounces Dark chocolate
  • 3 tablespoons Half and half cream
  • 1/2 tablespoon Unsalted butter
  • 20 Large strawberries or 30 medium strawberries.

Directions:

  • In a one-quart glass bowl combine chocolate and cream. Heat in microwave oven on high 1 1/2 to 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until smooth. Add butter and stir until melted.
  • Dip each strawberry into the chocolate mixture allowing the excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl. If necessary, add additional cream to the chocolate to achieve desired coating consistency. Transfer the coated strawberry to a baking sheet lined with foil or waxed paper and repeat process.
  • Allow the chocolate to cool and then chill the strawberries until chocolate is set, about 20 to 30 minutes.

Why this will put you in the mood:

Strawberries are high in Vitamin C, which is great for flushing toxins from your system (keeping your beautiful) and they are also great for keeping his “swimmers” healthy.  The color red is also scientifically proven to stoke the fire.

Tryptophan and Phenylethylamine are natural feel good chemicals.  Luckily, both are found in dark chocolate.

Spicy Chocolate Martini

  • 1 ounce vanilla vodka
  • 3 ounces Baileys
  • 2 ounce Kailua
  • 2 dried chili peppers, crushed (we used chili de arbol)
  • Ice

Mixing Directions:

  • In a glass, soak dried peppers in the vanilla vodka for 30-60 minutes. The longer you soak, the spicier you get.
  • Place all ingredients into a martini shaker and shake.
  • Strain mixture into chilled martini glass (you don’t want the seeds)
  • Garnish with extra chili peppers!

Why this will put you in the mood:

Well, you already know what chocolate can do for you, but did you know that chili peppers are chock full of a chemical called capsaicin?  Capsaicin aids in the release of endorphins which gives you the feeling of euphoria.

Dig in!

Friday Frocks: Under Where?
Written by: WhyDid YouWearThat | Friday Frocks

You thought I was going to do a Friday Frocks with all kinds of red and pink dresses, didn’t you?  C’mon, give me a little credit!  Being someone who loves lingerie as much as I do, I jumped at the chance to leverage the upcoming Valentine’s holiday to highlight some sexy chemises sure to impress anyone lucky enough to lay eyes upon them.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be all about raunchy red lingerie (I’m talking to you, Frederick’s).  A sexy chemise is much more subtle, yet just as effective in catching a special someone’s attention.  Rolling solo?  I don’t see why you shouldn’t wear one while doing the dishes or giving yourself an at home mani.  Smitty always appreciates when I do!

Top (L to R): Betsey Johnson Thorny Chiffon Babydoll, $75, La Perla Passion de Fleur Chemise, $350, Stella McCartney Clara Whispering Silk Satin Chemise, $300, La Perla Greta Chemise, $345

Bottom (L to R): Agent Provocateur Uschi Slip, $590, Only Hearts Stretch Lace Tie Back Chemise, $57, Flora Nikrooz Romantic Tiered Ruffled Chemise, $124, Body Wrap Slip Shaper, $78

Dress up to get down.
