Spring in New York tends to be more fickle than the beautiful women who inhabit it. One minute it’s all sunshine and soft breeze. The next it’s dark storm clouds and running for cover. One must always stow a small umbrella in her bag and never become too attached to her blowout. When Figleaves was kind enough to send me some stellar swimwear, I could not wait to suit up. Problem is, it’s hardly warm enough for exposed limbs and there’s definitely not enough sunshine for SPF. So, when the second to last day of April gave us just one last monsoon to remind us who’s boss, we had to get creative. If rooftop poolparties aren’t in Mother Nature’s forecast for me, I’ll just have to make due with my own watering hole.

Don’t despair over your summer plans, folks. You can still wear a luxury swimwear this season if you can safely access a beach, have a backyard you can lay out in, or if you just decide to dress up in one around your house. Do you! We all have to take some precautions and make changes to our travel plans with a pandemic still happening, but sometimes a little shopping can help take your mind off things, even just for a bit. Miami Swim Week happened last year, but the runways work ahead of schedule, and these are the 10 trends we saw for 2020.

Perhaps my swimsuit guide was a bit presumptuous as we are a week into spring and only a few days away from April and yet I’m still swaddled in cashmere scarves and slouchy beanies. As a matter of fact, it flurried the other night on my way crosstown. Friday Frocks: Cover. Up.

All seasoned spring break babes know that the only part of your poolside wardrobe almost as important as the bikini is the coverup. And maybe your shades, but let’s stick with the former. The coverup must be more than your shredded denim shorts and American Apparel tank top. To be truly beach chic and to separate the amateurs from the pros, a bathing beauty should have a coverup (or four, depending on vacation duration) that is both casual and elegant, a look that says, “Oh this old thing?” while embodying a Gucci ad. Everyone knows I love lingerie, a good cocktail, and my maltipoo, Smitty. Something else I love more than the average juice fasting female is swimwear. Some girls are all about bags, some about shoes and while I love both, a bikini is always certain to catch my attention as well as my paycheck. I even consider myself a bit of a bathing suit expert. I mean, I spent two years having the pleasure of filling Bendel’s with barely there beachwear.

I love bathing suits so much there are times when I wonder why I don’t just move to an island and live in a bikini whilst sipping on fresh coconuts, but then I get bored even imagining it and continue on in my concrete jungle.

Sure, this took me the greater portion of a day to pull together, but because I love swimwear so much, I enjoyed every moment of it. Why Did You Wear That: Summer Suit

I love bikinis. I’d spend my life in a bikini if I could. Can I? It was a real blessing to buy swimwear at Bendel’s… well, not so much a blessing for my wallet, but I enjoyed doing it so much that at one point started to consider designing my own line… til I realized I’d really just rather wear them and write about how much I love them. So, here I am. Loving bikinis and writing about how much so.

I write about them whenever I can… like here… and here… and here… you get the point. I wish I could take a picture of my extensive swimwear collection, but alas, it is somewhere in a box in Pennsylvania or West Virginia… hard to tell.

Moving right along. Memorial Day is what most people consider the “official” summer kick off although the first day of summer is really June 21- aka summer solstice- aka my favorite woman on earth’s birthday- mom. Whether you live somewhere warm and sunny or your weekends will now be spent in the Hamptons or Malibu, you’re going to need some sexy suits to keep you looking lovely pool/beachside. From simple and classic to preferring all eyes on YOU (and why wouldn’t you?), I’ve found and assortment of babe worthy bikinis that will keep you on trend all summer long.
