Friday Frocks: Tricks Up Your Sleeve

By |October 28th, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

Even though people are getting more and more into Halloween every year, it also seems that a lot of you lovely ladies like to wait until the absolute very last minute to attempt to pull together some type of festive get up.  That’s alright, hold off on the non PMS related freak out and take a deep breath (and sip of prosecco).  Most likely, you already have something in your very own closet that can easily be crafted into a crowd pleasing costume.  Don’t believe me?  Here are a few suggestions to get your brain ticking:

Why Did You Wear That: Shiver Me Timbers

By |May 24th, 2011|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

This past weekend I had the pleasure of going to see the fourth installment of a movie  that I’d never seen the first three installments of- The Pirates of the Caribbean. (This is what love does to you – you’ve been warned).  Anyway, while I sat in the theater trying not to vomit from my 3-D induced headache, I decided to try and make rum punch out of rotten coconuts.  While the plot could have (and very well may have) been written by a fifth grader and mermaids were ruined for me forever, I couldn’t help but be inspired by the costumes, accessories, and hair.  There’s a reason pirates are seen as sexy afterall.  Head scarves, Flowing blouses, intricate embroidery, and enough accessories to sink a ship complete a scoundrel’s wardrobe.

By the way: five things pirates do better than you:

  1. Accessorize
  2. Get booty
  3. Smokey eye
  4. Sword fight
  5. Hide libations in their wooden limbs.

Since I told you I would show you my favorite pirate outfit, I figured there was no better time than now.  Behold, thar she blows:

Ready to walk the plank?  While my “pirate” outfit is an oversized cashmere sample sweater cinched with a belt, here’s another way to achieve true buccaneer beauty:

1. Jen’s Pirate Booty Bowie Blouse, $139, 2. Susan Daniels Brick Mosaic Print Silk Head Wrap, $40, 3. UTZON Black Zipper Side Mini, $765, 4. Amrita Singh Malaika Bangle Set, $150, 5. Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent Devi Tall Suede Boot, $297.50, 6. Forever21 Tiered Crescent Earrings, $3.80

It’s a pirate’s life for me!

Friday Frocks: Anchors Away

By |May 13th, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

After asking my dad to send me the baby photo from yesterday, he got a little carried away and sent a barrage of other fair haired childhood pictures.  That’s when I saw the little gem above.  Disregarding that sassy face I’m making, check out that outfit!  Thanks, mom!  You got me started on this whole “nautical” trend early.  One might even say I was ahead of my time.

After seeing this picture, it should be no surprise that one of my alltime favorite outfits I named “the pirate” and some day I will post it on here.  I know a pirate isn’t a sailor, per se, but they both set sail on the high seas.  I like seamen… er, wait.  Anyway, nautical inspired dresses are a great way to dive right into summer.  You can never go wrong with classic navy or red and white.

1. Forever 21 Anchors & Stripes Dress, $19.80, 2.Michael Kors Striped Cashmere Knit Dress, $1,695, 3. Marc by Marc Jacobs Delfine Sailor Dress, $187.60, 4. Motel Emilia Nautical Stripe Gold Button Dress, $96.02,  5. Diane von Furstenberg Cyrani Short Sleeve Dress, $345, 6. Milly Chevron Stripe Dress, $295, 7. Rugby Abberbury Striped Rugby Dress, $128, 8. Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Sailor Dress, $552.10, 9. American Apparel Stripe Pocket Frock, $41, 10. Milly Colorblock Dena Dress, $195

Style your sailor inspired frock with gold jewelry, a bouncy ponytail and neutral shoes… or you can take a cue from two year old WhyDid and slip on a pair of oxfords.

Ahoy matey!
