Why Did You Wear That: Emmy’s Red Carpet- Taste the Rainbow

Once it was confirmed that I was, in fact, watching the Emmy’s red carpet arrivals and not a live feed of the Beverly Hills High junior prom, I sat back, sipped some wine, and started taking notes.  At first I thought that purple was the hue that ruled the evening, but after collecting all of the red carpet arrival photos, I realized that the only pattern I was seeing was randomness.  From deep wine to all shades of green, the red carpet was more like a fashion rainbow.  I always appreciate diversity and was glad to not see the same ol’ same, but it seemed as if nobody quite got their look complete.  Example: for once, I finally liked the Prada Lena Dunham chose to wear, but her eye makeup massacre made it null and void.  Julianne Hough’s hair was to die for, but she seemed to forget her pants in J. Mendel.  Claire Danes’ Armani was ethereal, but her helmet hair was anything but.  Rose Byrne looked sleek and chic in Calvin Klein, while Julie Bowen looked like an extra from a country western saloon photoshoot in Zac Posen.  Michelle Dockery knocked it out of the park in Prada and Connie Britton’s Naeem Khan had me wishing I was just knocked out.  While not straying far from their norm, Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang and Christina Hendricks in Christian Siriano wore what works for them and worked the red carpet and their best assets.  My takeaway?  Much like the assorted shades of silk, chiffon, and sequins, this year’s Emmy’s ensembles were a mixed bag. Replica Designer Handbags are the best choice for your trendy fashion.  and I apparently need to watch more TV.

Friday Frocks: Aw, Silky Silky Now

By |September 9th, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

When the summer ends and the fall winds start to blow, the skimpy sundresses and chunky espadrilles are tucked away and replaced with heavier fabrics and more sophisticated silhouettes.  From September until well into the new year, it seems we are bombarded with non stop parties, events, and holidays – kicking off with fashion week and finally ending with a midnight kiss.  That’s when a lady needs to make sure she is prepared to dress up and get down.  A long silky gown in neutrals or jewel tones is a surefire hit for any event requiring a bit more glamour than skinnies and a (faux) fur coat.  Elegant, sophisticated, and very feminine.  This is what timeless glamour is all about.

1. Ralph Lauren Collection Joelle Cross Neck Satin Gown, $2,598, 2. T by Alexander Wang Panne Long Dress, $335, 3. A.B.S. by Allen Schwartz Satin Deep V-Back Dress, $206.99, 4. Lanvin Gathered Silk Dress, $2,480, 5. Ports 1961 Cascade Back Gown, $1,350, 6. Lanvin Print Silk Satin Twill Gown, $3,895, 7. Jenni Kayne Bias Gown, $750, 8. Narcisco Rodriguez Textured Silk Satin Gown, $1,015, 9. Carmen Marc Valvo Amethyst Satin One Shoulder Gown, $499, 10. Sue Wong Beaded Inset Gown, $550

When you enter a the room wearing something as sensuous as a silky gown, you’ll have all the fellas saying, “Awwwww silky, silky now.”

Red Carpet Recap: SAG Awards Red Carpet 2009

By |January 28th, 2009|Celebrity Style, Red Carpet Recap|

Forget the awards, let’s get to the stuff people REALLY care about… the clothes!!!

I hate when critics are too kind to celebrities just because they like them. I get it, she’s America’s sweetheart- blah, blah, blah- but that’s no reason not to tell her her dress is ugly. That’s like not telling your best friend she has spinach in her teeth! Don’t worry, I promise to hold nothing back.

So let’s start off on a good note:

Why Did You Wear That: Dear Michelle Obama,

By |January 20th, 2009|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

Today is a big day for you. Congratulations to you and your family.  You’ve got some serious responsibilities now. Not only will you need to be there to support the most powerful man in the United States, but you are now permanently in the public eye…. Whether you like it or not.  So as you know, this means everything you wear will be scrutinized by the general population.

A few things I can already tell you like:

  • color
  • belts
  • cardigans
  • khaki pants

I give you a lot of credit for wearing color. You’ve already sported purple, orange, red, lime green, and turquoise. All of these colors are wonderful with your complexion, however, I think we need to work on figuring out the shapes that work on your body. Like many women, you are fuller through the hips than you are up top (pear shaped). Since this is a common problem, it’s also easy to fix.  (more…)
