Gift Guide: Technically Speaking

By |December 11th, 2012|Gift Guide|

pile of gadgetsFor the friends who aren’t going to squeal over cashmere mittens or a brand new eyeshadow palette, try delving into gifts from the 2st century.  You don’t even have to be a geek to appreciate tech these days.  Show me someone who isn’t Tweeting or texting and I’ll show you a pole dancing turtle.  It’s a whole new era, my friends.  Even our parents have iPhones and kids we used to babysit are liking our photos on Instagram.  So, why not gift some gadgets that’ll make it easier for them to connect.  Hey, I travel with an iPhone, iPad, Mac, camera, and dog.  I’m TSA’s dream.

Gift Guide: Playing House

By |December 10th, 2012|Gift Guide|

Gift giving season is upon us.  We’re already a few lit candles into our menorahs and the halls have been properly decked.  So, now that you’ve decorated accordingly, it’s time to shop accordingly.  This time of year, you will more likely than not be bombarded with lots of holiday party invites (the downfall of being so popular) and while your host(ess) is really just giddy to see your pretty face, your mom, Emily Post, and I would strongly encourage you not to show up empty handed.  Sure, the standard bottle of wine will fly, but that half bottle of whiskey is just not going to cut it.  And rather than bring a gift that you’re more likely to drink yourself (yeah, we’re onto you), why not offer up some goodies that will last longer than tomorrow’s hangover?

housewarming gifts1. C. R. Gibson Pocket Recipe Book, $36.99, 2. Renato Foti Optical Granite Coasters, $75, 3. Diptyque Holiday Candle Set, $68, 4. Wolfgang Puck Lighted Electric Wine Opener, $58.99, 5. The Hungover Cookbook, $10, 6. Izola Shake Rattle & Roll Shaker, $31.99, 7. Tonino Lamborghini Silver Collection Backgammo Set, $179, 8. C. Wonder Faux Fur Throw, $128, 9. Jonathan Adler Giraffe Ornament, $24

Happy hosting.

Setting the Mood: It Was All a Dream

By |June 11th, 2012|Setting the Mood|

favorite thingsbag: WGACA Vintage Chanel Mini Flap Bag, $3,500, sunglasses case: Jonathan Adler Heart Sunglasses Case, $40, shoes: Christian Louboutin Daffodile 160 Crystal Embellished Suede Pumps, $6,395, chandelier: Dainolite Lighting 3-Light Crystal Mini Chandelier, $137, bracelet: Aurelie Bidermann 18 Karat Rose Gold Dipped Lace Cuff, $1,370, mirror: Venetian Gems Celina Mirror, $1,000

Ever have one of those mornings where you wake up with a smile on your face only to have the gut crashing realization that the day before (and your current reality) was a complete and utter disaster?  Oh yeah.  I’m having one of those.  While I certainly don’t know the answer to everything, I do know two things quite intimately: 1. There is such a thing as too many mimosas, and 2. You have no one but yourself to blame for making the same mistakes time and again.

To perk up my less than perfect disposition, I’ve gathered together a few of my favorite things to remind myself, “Hey, life’s not so bad.”  Some of those best things are free (it’s true what they say), while others may break the bank (a girl can dream, right?).  So, this is a semi-self-centered post, but I suspect you may be smitten with some of my obsessions as well.

And while you may not be able to wake up from this terrible dream, at least you’ll have other things to smile about.

Gift Guide: My Fair Maidens

By |January 10th, 2012|Gift Guide|

Some day you may meet a handsome, kind gentleman who will ask for your hand in marriage.  And while you may think that meeting the man of your dreams was the hardest part, buckle up baby- wedding planning is a whole new kind of stressful.

One of the easiest parts should be asking your best pals to stand by your side during your special day… but well, sometimes that part is difficult too.  Anyway, once you’ve decided who, you should decide how?  You can’t just text your friends to pop the question, afterall.  I’ve had friends send scavenger hunts, and awful dresses to be photographed in.  Brides to be are getting more and more creative in their “Will you?” presentations.

One of my favorite approaches is a gift bag chocked full of bridesmaid essentials.  Be sure to show them how much they really mean to you by putting together a gift bag with special items that may come in handy either during or before your impending nuptials.  Perhaps if your wedding is that of the destination type or even a “surprise” destination, use this as an opportunity to provide clues.  While you may be thinking, “Gosh, this is pricey,” don’t forget how much money your best gal pals will have to dish out for showers, and bachelorette parties, and dresses, oh my!  You’ve been a bridesmaid a time or two… remember?

All the essentials (similar to what is shown above):

Setting the Mood: Don’t Lose Sight

By |December 28th, 2011|Setting the Mood|

All that glitters is not gold.

Something clever I was told.

The stars that shine the most bright

Are the first to lose their light.

Although the glimmer is appealing

Don’t lose sight of your inner feeling.

Before you’re left out in the cold

Remember all that glitters is not gold.
