Why Did You Wear That: Rain, Rain

kirsten smith whydidSpring in New York tends to be more fickle than the beautiful women who inhabit it.  One minute it’s all sunshine and soft breeze.  The next it’s dark storm clouds and running for cover.  One must always stow a small umbrella in her bag and never become too attached to her blowout. When Figleaves was kind enough to send me some stellar swimwear, I could not wait to suit up.  Problem is, it’s hardly warm enough for exposed limbs and there’s definitely not enough sunshine for SPF.  So, when the second to last day of April gave us just one last monsoon to remind us who’s boss, we had to get creative.  If rooftop poolparties aren’t in Mother Nature’s forecast for me, I’ll just have to make due with my own watering hole.

Why Did You Wear That: Wear the Rainbow

By |January 12th, 2012|Why Did You Wear That?|

When I walked into the fifth floor of Saks a couple of weeks ago, my eyes lit up as I saw a table of denim in almost every color in the rainbow.  I love jeans and making them in different colors is merely an excuse for me to buy more… cause I need a pair of lavender jeans, don’t I?  Right.  For a while denim has been clean, skinny, and dark (thank God, we’ve moved past that whole “distressed”, rhinestoned, whiskered phase).  We saw the emergence of red denim this past year, but it hasn’t been since Bongo jeans and snap crotch bodysuits that I’ve seen such a variety of saturated shades.  Have I dated myself?  No?  Cotempo Casuals, anyone?  Here’s a roundup of some of my favorite shades that I can’t wait to wear.

Top (L to R): AG Adriano Goldschmied The Stilt Cigarette Pants in Neon Yellow, $159, 7 for All Mankind Skinny Twill Jeans in Neon Yellow, $169, J Brand Skinny Twill Pants in Canary, $176 7 for All Mankind Gwenevere Skinny Jeans in Deep Canteloupe, $169,  Joe’s Colored Skinny Jeans in Nectar, $158 J Brand Skinny Twill Pants in Fraise, $176

Bottom (L to R): J Brand Skinny Twill Pants in St. Tropez, $176, AG Adriano Goldschmied The Stilt Cigarette Jeans in Highlighter Blue, $159, Joe’s Colored Skinny Jeans in French Blue, $158, Rag & Bone The Skinny Jeans in Royal, $1767 for All Mankind Skinny Twill Jeans in Light Purple, $169,  7 for All Mankind Skinny Twill Jeans in Neon Pink, $169

Now you’re pants can be as bright as you are.

Girl Crush: Go Play a Video Game

By |November 2nd, 2011|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

In case you haven’t already been sucked in by her first single, Video Games, this sultry songstress is Lana del Rey.  Though there is much speculation as to whether she is a product of her management and as to where exactly she came from (she was formerly known as Lizzy Grant)- one thing is for sure: girlfriend can sing.  Her sound is like nothing else out there and her voice is utterly intoxicating.  As if her vocal chops aren’t enough, she is strikingly gorgeous with doe eyes and voluptuous lips (also much speculation on those).  Her self described style is “Gangster Nancy Sinatra.”  She sports big hair and big accessories– and in this case, bigger is definitely better.

 1. American Apparel 3D Flower Mesh Jumper, $88, 2. Chaser American Flag Tee, $49, 3. GirlProps Two Finger Nugget Ring, $9.99, 4. Forever21 Twisted Hoop Earrings, $1.50, 5. American Apparel Poly-Cotton 3/4 Sleeve Raglan, $26, 6. Joe’s Jeans 3″ Cut Off Shorts, $83, 7. LipFusion XL, $12.50, 8. Sally Hershberger Supreme Lift, $11.99, 9. Charlotte Russe Flower Duet Headband, $6.50

You the bestest.

Pure “Jean”ius

By |April 16th, 2009|Uncategorized|

Oh shopping for jeans… It can be so painful.  I would say jeans and bathing suits rank as two of the most traumatic things a woman can shop for.  I remember missing the matinee for Titanic (how fitting) with my mom after a bad afternoon of jean shopping years ago.

But alas, that’s where the new store Farinelli’s comes in.  Catering to both men and women, they have every pair of sexy jeans you’ve ever dreamed of.  From Citizen to to Current/Elliot to Nudie you are sure to find the perfect pair (or two) for your figure.  *Bonus points- While they are still a newbie (aka hidden gem) you might actually  have a shot of being able to get the latest styles in your size! **Bonus Bonus points- Farinelli’s is a one stop shop. Once you’ve found your new booty hugging pair of jeans continue browsing their selection of sexy “date tops” (as I like to call them).

Example of perfect date outfit:

Maloom Silky Top w/ built in bra (love that!), $148

Joe’s Chelsea jean, $174

You can shop online or if you’re located in the DC area, you can stop into the store and get the best kind of customer service, “brutal honesty.”

2839 Clarendon Blvd.

Arlington, VA 22201

Phew! And just in time for the weekend Farinelli’s is giving WhyDid readers 30% off all women’s clothing when you enter “whydid” as your discount code.
