Setting the Mood: Hats Off

By |July 28th, 2014|Setting the Mood|

hat fashion editorialMy mom looks fantastic in a hat.  Any kind.  You name it- from bonnet to bucket- she works the look.  She probably should have been British or born in the mid 18th century.  Fortunately for me, I inherited that trait along with her side stitch inducing humor (am I right?).  In this sizzling summer heat, you may not intuitively reach for a hat, but they are one more step in the right direction towards sun damage defense (more on that here).  In addition to shielding you from the sun’s UV rays, they also prove to be a fantastic way to hide a bad hair day (as witnessed here).eugenia kim fedora sensi studio(from top down): Rag & Bone Leather Trimmed Wool Felt Fedora, Karl Lagerfeld Number 7 Baseball Cap, Sensi Studio Adrian Toquilla Straw Panama Hat,Eugenia Kim Max Feather Trimmed Rabbit Felt Fedora

Setting the Mood: The Daisies of Our Lives

By |May 12th, 2014|Setting the Mood|

daisy duke flowersTruth be told, I don’t care much for daisies.  I often lump them into the same category as carnations, which are the cantaloupe of flowers in my book.  However, there is something quite sunny about a daisy.  And who doesn’t love playing “He Loves Me Not” with the petals?  Honestly, you have a better chance of getting an accurate read from a bud than boy these days.  So when you combine daisies with denim, you’ve got a combination that even Catherine Bach would stamp her seal of approval on.

Setting the Mood: Five Alive

By |April 28th, 2014|Setting the Mood|

mexican fiestaSomehow it seems we’ve made it through the showers of April without drowning and soon it will be May, one of my favorite months.  So, bring on the flowers.  Also, go ahead and bring on the tequila because Cinco de Mayo is right around the corner.  Sure, some people take it to extremes kind of like St. Patrick’s Day, but because I could easily eat Mexican food every day for the rest of my life, I’m happy to have a designated day for it.  Fun fact: Cinco de Mayo (also called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla) is not actually Mexico’s Independence Day, which is celebrated on September 16.  Another reason to indulge in Mexican culture.

Setting the Mood: Vortex- The Escape

By |January 6th, 2014|Setting the Mood|

winter inspiration boardHappy Monday– and welcome, polar vortex.    While literal deadly cold temperature descend on most of the country, the west coast seems to have been spared.  So, I’ll leave out the fact that I’m writing this in my sports bra with the sliding glass doors open ’cause that would just be cruel.  Speaking of complete and utter sadism, forcing one to leave the toasty confines of his or her home just to enter a few numbers in an excel sheet and return banal emails seems completely unreasonable.  Sadly, not all executives share my exemplary work ethic and therefore many of you have braved the vortex bundled in winter’s bulkiest wares.  And while you may think there’s no other way to survive such flesh freezing temperatures without resembling that of the Michelin Man in said puffer coat and Uggs, it is actually possible to look wonderful in a environment resembling less than a storybook Winter Wonderland.

Setting the Mood: Happy Holla-Daze

By |December 9th, 2013|Setting the Mood|

christmas fashion editorialWhile some of you were busy posing both literally and figuratively at Art Basel in Miami, I was busy dealing with personal crises and preparing this week’s posts chocked full of gift guides that will make your holiday shopping less painful than some of those exhibitions at Basel.  Now that we’ve actually made it past Thanksgiving, it’s time to start thinking December 25th- not post Halloween like some of you overanxious overachievers thought.  It’s no secret that Christmas music is like nails on the chalkboard to me, but I will appease my holly loving, twinkle light enthusiast, overly festive friends.  So, get ready to stuff your stockings, kids.
