WhyDid’s Gift Guide: What a Girl Wants

By |December 18th, 2010|Gift Guide, Somethin for the fellas|

I do not envy men during the holidays… unless, of course, your gf/wife/sig other is a WhyDid reader cause she knows what to buy you. Shopping for your lady is no small feat. I’ve suggested presents year after year and told you what not to even think about buying (perfume, scarves, gift cards).   In tradition, here are more gifts that are sure to delight even the most finicky female.

Fleur of England Keepsake Silk and Lace Backless Kimono, $268.44

Friday Frocks: Swan Song

By |December 3rd, 2010|Friday Frocks|

This may be one of my favorite Friday Frocks to date. I have a personal obsession with all things ballet related seeing as I was two pom-poms away from trading in college career for a blistered toed career of ballet (there’s a reason I love Center Stage). Needless to say, I can’t wait to see this movie (I’m aware it’s no Nutcracker).  So if you are looking to channel your inner inner prima ballerina, try on these frilly frocks. I don’t recommend losing the 20+ pounds that Mila and Natalie lost for the film, but slipping into something dainty will certainly have you feeling like doing pirouettes in your Loubous.

Vivienne Westwood Gold Label Taffeta and Tulle Gown, $3,017

J. Mendel Embellished Georgette Gown, $1,918

BCBG MAXAZRIA Ruffle Tulle One Shoulder Dress, $398

Sandro Rancon Silk and Tulle Dress, $395

Elizabeth and James Soma Ruched Dress, $267

White House Black Market Grey Tulle Soiree Dress, $188

BCBG MAXAZRIA Tutu Tank Dress, $168

ModCloth 4 Score and 7 Tiers Ago Dress, $53.99

Sound and Matter Sandy Holiday Dress, $25

Friday Frocks: Yipes Stripes!

By |November 26th, 2010|Friday Frocks|

Yeah, I know you just chowed down on mass quantities of food and pie so the last thing you feel like doing is sliding into a striped frock.  However, I’m totally digging these linear looking dresses. I’m thinking that some of the crazy pieced together striped frocks will totally hide the second helping of mashed potatoes. Try one of these out for your after Thanksgiving celebrations:

Stella McCartney Striped Knit Dress, $845

Elizabeth and James Ava Striped Jersey Dress, $295

Diane von Furstenberg Row Stripe Dress, $285

Opening Ceremony Pieced Stripe Long Dress, $242

Friday Frocks: Belt It Out

By |November 12th, 2010|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

If you aren’t feeling as daring as a body con dress (or you’d just like to be able to enjoy your $200 dinner at The Little Door), have no fear. I have an alternate option! A belted dress will still whittle your waist all while giving you a little room to breath (and eat). Try these options tonight!

Akris Punto 3/4 Sleeve Belted Dress, $995

Halston Heritage Moonlight Belted Dress, $495

Elizabeth and James Printed New Belinda Belted Dress, $325
BCBG Belted Dress, $238

Patterson J. Kincaid Deanna Belted Dress, $148

Forever 21 Belted Scoopneck Dress, $19.80

So svelte!

Why Did You Eat That: Bond, BondST

By |November 1st, 2010|New York, Why Did You Eat That?|

While in NY last week, I took my boo to a New York City institution. I figured he needed to really see the city and have some pretty delicious sushi in the meantime… so, off to BondSt we went. If you don’t know what you’re looking for, you may miss the front door. Tucked in a townhouse on… you guessed it, Bond Street, you enter the main dining room via the stairs or the lounge below by taking a few steps down.

Upon entering, the room is abuzz with attractive couples and groups of suits. The staff is startlingly attractive and the ambiance is magical. If dining upstairs, you’ll be whisked to the elevator and seated in yet another beautiful room. While I’ve eaten just about everything on the menu, a few star players are the Wagyu Tataki, Tuna Crispy Rice, Broiled Chilean Sea Bass, and the Banana Milk Chocolate Dim Sum for dessert. You’re welcome. I’ve ordered for you.

6 Bond Street

New York, NY 10012

So, what’s a girl wear for date night in the Big City? The trick is to look amazing without looking like you tried at all. You don’t want to be squeezed into your tiniest mini as if you’ve just arrived on the LIRR. Here’s a thought for looking effortlessly sexy:

Elizabeth and James Tokyo Chiffon Blouse, $132.50

Seven For All Mankind Leather Pull On Legging, $598

Charles by Charles David Night Light Lace and Satin Bootie, $124.95

Cece Cashmere Flannel Drape Front Cozy Cardigan, $143.20

Fossil Montreal Zip Multifunction, $50
