Why Did You Wear That: Washington Park After Dark

By |August 3rd, 2014|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

washington park nycOne of the best things about New York, and there are many, is the street traffic.  Not long ago, I loathed being photographed and what made it even more troublesome for me was having to call attention to myself as I strutted and struck poses in plain view of all pedestrians, taxi cabs, and public transportation.  But alas, I eventually came to terms with this necessary form of showboating and started to embrace the glances, glares, cheers, and jeers of passersby.  As we shot this, a woman stopped to offer her own editorial commentary.  She wanted to let me know that I looked like a witch.  Michael laughed and asked if it was the hat, which he had let me know from moment one he hated.  (Which is ironic since this hat is his and had earned him the very same nickname).  She said it was the whole look, but perhaps if I changed my attitude I could be a good witch like Samantha.  She was then on her way and I checked to see if she, herself, had not been riding a broomstick.  I love this city.

Beauty Buzz: American Beauty

By |July 4th, 2014|Beauty Buzz|

fourth of july makeupYou know how I like a good theme party?  Well, call me a hipster, but I really only like them when they’re ironic.  The thought of green on St. Patrick’s Day makes me want to punch a leprechaun and please don’t think for one split second you’ll catch me this weekend wearing star spangled swimwear.  But before you call me a wet blanket, I understand the importance of being patriotic.  I know of the need for all-American nail art and the importance of playing along.  Better than flaunting a flag outright?  Add some red, white, and blue to your makeup bag… making you a true American beauty.

Gift Guide: The Beauty of Giving

By |December 12th, 2013|Beauty Buzz, Gift Guide|

holiday makeupOkay, fine.  She doesn’t quite seem to fit into any of the five gift giving categories from yesterday.  Deep breaths, drama queen.  I have a fairly easy fix, my friend.  There are very few (although, astonishingly, there are some) women who would turn their perfectly powdered little noses up at the gift of beauty.  Since the time we are old enough to sneak into mama’s rouge, we are mesmerized by makeup.  The beauty industry caught onto this and made your life a whole heck of a lot easier because many of them have crafted up kits especially for the holiday season.  But aside from the limited edition palettes, there are plenty of fun ways to gift your buddy with beauty.

Beauty Buzz: The Look of Love

By |February 9th, 2012|Beauty Buzz|

look of love

Ah, the look of love.  You can almost pick the women in the midst of amour right out of a crowd thanks to the effervescent glow of endorphins.  Their eyes sparkle, their cheeks are flushed, and they just look blissful.  But wait… why must we rely on men and love to give us that glorious glow?  Oh, right.  We don’t.  Phew.  And it’s a good thing cause banking on a man for our beauty is like trying to pull yourself away from Pinterest.  Never gonna happen.  From rosy cheeks to shiny lips, here are a few ways to give yourself the look of love.

Beauty Buzz: I Don’t Want No Scrub

By |January 5th, 2012|Beauty Buzz|

Now that it’s 2012, let’s go ahead and slough off all of what’s left of 2011.  Winter weather has a tendency to wreak havoc on our delicate dermis. At some point during the darkest (and coldest) season of the year, you will come to the realization that moisturizer just isn’t going to cut it.  Rather than go on looking like the alligator from a Lubriderm commercial, why not rid yourself of those frisky skin flakes?  Take matters (literally) into your own hands by exfoliating everything from your face to your feet.  Here are a few of my favorites to get you off to a smooth start:

1.Bliss Super Slough Scrub, $34, 2. StriVectin Instant Retexturizing Scrub, $29, 3. Fresh Brown Sugar Lip Polish, $22.50, 4. Deborah Lippmann Soul Mission Grapefruit Foot Scrub, $38, 5. Homedics Massaging Shower Loofah, $9.99

Don’t forget to moisturize your newfound glow with a thick nourishing moisturizer.  Don’t you look fresh?
