Why Did You Wear That: Fake It Til You Make It

Fall is all about leather and fur (and a little bit of lace) and there are more than a few ways to achieve this luxe look. But should you prefer to go faux, there are plenty of options out there that won’t leave you looking like a muppet. Many designers have decided not to even dabble in the realm of authentic animal skins, most notably Stella McCartney. Faux options have come a long way since the inception of pleather and plasticky fake furs and at times are almost indiscernible. Faux and vegan furs and leathers are not only animal friendly, but much more cost efficient than their counterparts- twice the incentive to fake the funk.

Monday Mashup: Stating the Obvious

Alright, let’s not beat around the bush. I do realize the MTV Video Music Awards took place last Thursday, which coincidentally coincided with Fashion’s Night Out. This left us all with the burden of choosing between one three ring circus and another. I, myself, went ahead and took on Fashion’s Night Out in New York by visiting with Lauren Kaminsky and David Lerner at Beauty & Essex. This, of course, means that I missed out on all the tomfoolery of VMA’s past. But alas, I took a little bit of time perusing the red carpet photos and viewing some of the noteworthy performances via YouTube. And while, there was the usual ridiculous attire of some, others –ahem, Rihanna– redeemed themselves.

And then I realized something. We’ve all been wondering what exactly Miley was thinking when she lobbed off her locks a couple of weeks ago (or at least her bun and I have). Well, I think we may have unearthed her inspiration. Perhaps young Miley was channeling the queen of girls kicking ass, Pink and her platinum blonde bouffant. The resemblance is kind of uncanny and it leaves me wondering what Pink thinks about her mini me. More importantly, what do you think?

Friday Frocks: Skin in the Game

In case you didn’t get the memo last fall, you’re going to need a leather dress come this autumn. The ultimate update to your standard LBD, leather will not only keep you warm thermostatically speaking, but will also have you looking hot literally speaking. Should you opt to go all in, a leather shift is a fantastic transitional piece that can eventually be layered over a turtleneck and tights. Feeling more modest? Opt for a frock with leather details or panels to achieve the same leather look.

I’m a huge fan of basically leather anything and have been pushing the trend since I was sixteen. I wore a leather dress to my sophomore year homecoming… and while that went over like a lead balloon with teachers and students alike, this season’s must have frock is sure to be a bigger hit with your classmates.

Friday Frocks: Ray of White

Along with the official kick off of summer, Memorial Day is also the day that white dresses get the “go ahead” green light (according to some). While white dresses are most often associated with weddings, christenings, and clam bakes, in my book, a Tuesday is as good a day as any to wear a stark white dress. There is just something so fresh, so innocent and dare I say virginal about slipping into a snow toned frock? We’ve already worked up the courage with off white and now it’s go time, ladies. Get out your Tide To Go pens, self tanner, and biggest and brightest smile. Summer’s here and the living is easy.
