Not only are double duty beauty products helpful for packing, so are dresses that are multifunctional and able to be worn in more than one way. Why Did You Wear That: Fresh Coat

The only item more clutch to one’s closet than the perfect fall boots is the perfect fall coat. Growing up in Florida, I was unfamiliar with inclement winter weather. Boy, was I in for a rude awakening during my first northeastern snow storm. This was when I took a crash course in dressing for the elements. Never again would I be chilled to the bone without the appropriate outerwear. Someone wise once told me that if you have a nice coat, nice bag, and nice shoes during the winter, it doesn’t really matter whether you’re wearing sweats underneath– no one will even see them. I’m not encouraging that, but I certainly wouldn’t shame you for running to Starbucks in your jammies so long as you cover them accordingly. While you should have one go to coat to cover all occasions, you’re going to need a couple more to fill in the wardrobe gaps. Below are some essential styles that will keep you warm and looking cool.

At times I may complain that ol’ US of A has gone down the sh…. I feel blessed to live in a country where what I say, do, wear, and think can’t really be censored… well, for the meantime, at least. I believe Congress is working on that. Sure there are Kardashians and fast food chains, but for the most part, the United States of America is what so many people dream of, work for, and aspire to be. Perhaps we should remember where we came from and attempt to become model citizens of the great states of America…again. Let’s make Abe and George proud. Bake that apple pie, put on your best red, white, and blue, and celebrate… we’re Americans, ya’ll.

Setting the Mood: Ballet Rehearsal

There are so many reasons to love ballet. I have loved it since my very class when I was three years old. I love the music. I love the quiet elegance. And I most certainly love the wardrobe. There’s a reason I’m drawn towards soft blushes, and cascading fabrics. It’s a classic case of “chicken or the egg” though. Do I love tulle because I love ballet or do I love ballet because I love tulle? And does it really matter anyway?

Whether you’ve thought about it or not, ballet and fashion are based upon the same principle. Both are all about creating lines. Ballet with your body, fashion with fabric.

You need a little more than a perfect top knot to channel your inner prima ballerina though. Soft shades of peach (ballet pink), black and white. Delicate fabrics like tulle and chiffon. And every ballerina needs the perfect pair of shoes.

Friday Frocks: Witchy Woman

It’s that time of year again. It’s always some time of year again though. Anyway, the time of year I’m talking about is Halloween. And while some of you may be crotch deep in slutty costumes, some of us are a little tired of plopping down 50 bucks for a pre-packaged costume the size of a dinner napkin from Ricky’s only to exile said costume to the far corners of our closets the day after fright night. Luckily, there are quite a few frocks that can do double duty. Not only are they spot on for Fall, they’d also make for very good witchy, vampy costumes with the right makeup and props. Now to be clear, vampires just really aren’t my thing, but I’m not here to judge. I’m in front of my TV every Monday night for Gossip Girl… so…

Anyway, wearing a black lace or deep red velvet frock with some snagged stockings, smokey eyes, and maroon lips would make for a very sultry, very sexy (not slutty) Halloween costume. Pop some vampire teeth and fake blood in your clutch for added effect and you’ll be utterly bewitching.
