Why Did You Wear That: Work It, Girl.

By |March 19th, 2013|Why Did You Wear That?|

whydid workoutDespite the clumps of half melted snow on the sidewalk and being pelted by sleety raindrops the moment you step foot outside your door, “spring” is only a day away.  Typically, this would signal oncoming warm weather and the switch from snow boots to skimmers.  However, by the looks of things, we’ve got a little while longer to spend in the gym sweating to the oldies before shedding the layers and revealing our soft summer skin. (Punksatony, we’re reviewing your contract right now).  So instead of drowning our sorrows in baked mac n’ cheese, let’s take advantage of the opportunity to shed a couple of those extra LB’s we packed on during winter hibernation because those are not the “lumps” they were talking about when they said lovely lady lumps.

While I do have a very difficult time spending ninety dollars on a pair of pants I’m simply going to sweat in, you also don’t have to look like a tool on the treadmill, you should get the best SoleHeaven trainers to have style when working out.  Fortunately, workout wear has taken a turn towards stylish and now we can find great options by just visiting websites like https://www.ryderwear.com/collections/womens-sports-bras.  Take a cue from these on trend gym approved styles and feel the burn.  Just remember, your workout clothes are not street clothes.  Lulu leggings are still leggings, so please don’t sit down at brunch post downward dog next to me.  I don’t want cameltoe with my croissant.

Look for Less: Sweat Style

By |October 16th, 2011|Look for Less, Why Did You Wear That?|

While we’re on the subject (and conveniently now have the best workout playlist ever), let’s take a look at some svelte starlets in their workout gear.  You didn’t think they just looked that good with no hard work, did you?  No, it takes a lot of time and effort at the gym along with the smallest caloric intake possible (kidding about that last part… kind of).  Anyway, These ladies know that it’s important to be dressed properly for their grueling iron pumping sessions.

I, too, understand the importance of a good workout.  I mean, have you seen my ab workout??!!

1. C9 by Champion Racerback Bra, $14.99, 2. Victoria’s Secret Yoga Foldover Crop Legging, $29.50, 3. So Low Oversized Dolman Zip Hoodie, $95, 4. New Balance Set of 2 Stretch Performance Camisoles, $28, 5. Nike Lunar Sweet Victory + 2 Training Shoe, $100, 6. Forever 21 Hair Tie Ball, $3.50

This is one of the very few times where something resembling leggings must be worn as pants.  That does not make it okay to prance around town all day in them when you’re through at the gym.  For instance, I do not want to see you strolling into brunch post workout in your leggings and sitting down next to me.  Your cameltoe is not good for my appetite…

Not only is looking good while you glisten crucial, but wearing the right shoes and right bra will also save you from injuries and gravity.  Now drop and give me twenty!

Why Did You Wear That: Why You Sweatin’ Me?

By |March 16th, 2010|Why Did You Wear That?|

exesogirl

So, I’ve been spending a lot of time at the gym lately (you try watching yourself getting spray tanned in a bikini and tell me how you feel) and I have made quite a few startling observations. One being that most people look really funny running on the treadmill. Another being that people wear incredibly bizarre things to work out.

The other day, I spotted some serious cougars wearing cleavage baring tank tops and walking on the treadmills. I mean, this is not a bar or a pick up joint, ladies. I’m here to get my cardio on. That would require me strapping my two best girls down as to not look like a Baywatch re-run. Sports bras, not your push up bra, should always be worn. They help fight gravity and they will wick away the moisture (ladies don’t sweat, we glisten) rather than soak it up like the padding in your bra.

The gym is also where the thin line between appropriate and inappropriate legging wear is dangerously thin. I, myself, have been known to wear leggings to the gym (I KNOW!!). So what makes it okay and not okay? Well, they should basically ALWAYS be black. White is an absolute NO. You can see every dimple of cellulite. Heather grey will show every speck of sweat… er, glisten. So just stick with the tried and true. Now let’s address that cameltoe.  It’s basically inevitable, but luckily, my girls at Bye Bye Lines have created all types of things (panties, liners, and pants) to fight that frontal wedgie. Crisis averted.

I’m also baffled by the girls who come with a full face of make up to the gym. Go ahead and add this to my list of pet peeves. I mean, I get that some people are coming from work and may have a little bit on, but full on photoshoot style makeup?  I hope they realize that this is TERRIBLE for your skin! All that sweat and makeup is adult acne waiting to happen! Let your skin breathe! If you are coming from work or somewhere that required makeup, tuck some face wipes in your gym bag and get the gunk off pre workout.

I like to do double duty while at the gym. Meaning I will slather on some deep conditioner in my hair and braid it. That way, when I shower after the gym, I will not only have toned glutes, but also luscious locks. Smarter than I look, people.

Here are some examples of cute gym gear. Just cause you’re working out doesn’t mean you can’t work it:

V294758VSX Body Wick seamleass sports bra, $22

So hit the gym and get that heart rate up. Summer and short shorts are just around the corner. And fellas, cut a girl a break. PLEASE, don’t try and talk to us while we are mid stride. We’re actually trying to get in shape. You can chat us up over a smoothie later.
