Beauty Buzz: A Bump in the Road
Written by: WhyDid YouWearThat | Beauty Buzz

The only thing less sexy than an Amazonian bush during bikini season is the horrifically embarrassing bumps known as ingrown hairs that can be left behind after grooming below the belt.  (Sorry, Dad. TMI?)

When I go in for my Brazilian beauty treatment, I often shrug off the “add-on’s” they push on you at the end.  How many different swipes and pads and lotions and potions does one need for her nether regions?  Well, a couple of waxes ago, I was swayed and I decided to test out PFB Vanish… mostly because I was sort of obsessed with my esthetician and would have believed anything she told me and also because it was a very simple bottle.  It looked fairly straightforward– and I like straightforward.

Basically, it’s a roll-on that you apply after showers (more or less frequently depending on how sensitive your skin is) that will prevent irritation and ingrown hairs. One reason it’s awesome?  You never have to touch the “solution” with your hands.  This particular application is very no fuss no muss.  I also noticed a serious difference by using it every other day.  I had far fewer ingrown hairs and this may be totally unrelated, but I actually think my hair has taken longer to grow back.

There are really only a few things you can do to prevent ingrown hairs in the first place, so listen up:

  • Exfoliate!! Be sure to do a little scrub-a-roo in this region when bathing.
  • Use a product with salicylic or glycolic acid (that’s where PFB comes in).
  • Do NOT pick at those pesky bumps.  This area is sensitive and picking can cause infection and even scarring.

Looks like smooth sailing to me!

xx.

Beauty Buzz: Tough as Nails
Written by: WhyDid YouWearThat | Beauty Buzz

I’ve mentioned once or twice that I have a heck of a time keeping any form of polish on my fingers. I have now been told that I may have “oily nailbeds.” Thanks, life. Dry skin and oily nailbeds. Anyway, I’ve tried Minx. I’ve tried OPI axxium.  I’ve spent weeks sans polish. So, when I went online to schedule my Brazilian last week, I was elated to see that bliss was now offering CND Shellac manicures! The sky then opened up and angels came down and serenaded me.

The problem with some of the gel manicures is that they are just as damaging as getting… gasp… acrylic nails. They may stay on and look shiny, but when it comes time to remove, there’s a lot of scraping, filing, and peeling done that leaves your nails week and paper thin.  When picking a gel manicure make sure that you ask if the gel will SOAK OFF. Otherwise, you may as well start picking out air brush art to go on your acrylics.

After experiencing the joy that is a Brazilian, I headed over to pamper my poor neglected little fingers. I mean, there is nothing worse than chipped nails when sporting your pretty diamond engagement bling. The lovely and talented Brandy fixed my fingers up in no time. She assured me that these puppies would last at least two weeks with no chips. The best part (other than the great convo and delicious mimosa) was the zero drying time. I still babied my fingers as if they might smudge, but they didn’t. It’s been about a week already and there is not a chip in sight (knock on wood).

If you don’t have a bliss near you- well, first of all I’m sorry- but here is a list of salons that offer CND Shellac manicures.

chip off the old block, eh?

Blizzards and Bikinis
Written by: WhyDid YouWearThat | Uncategorized

I figure there is no better time than in the middle of a blizzard to give a little lesson in bikinis. So what if there is 10 inches of snow in NY?  No time like the present to start thinking about warm weather and teeny bikinis…

I consider myself somewhat of an expert in the field of swimwear and I feel that many women don’t know what kind of bathing suits actually  look good on them, which totally frustrates me. Plus, I do realize that for some (okay most of us) bathing suit shopping can be somewhat traumatic.  Especially after hibernating all winter long. So here are a few guidelines to keep in mind while shopping for this season’s swimsuit:

  • The most common and most annoying mistake women make is thinking that just because they have a bigger booty, they need to wear bigger bottoms (i.e. more fabric, more coverage).  Ehhh!! You are so wrong.  Guess what more fabric does to your butt?  Emphasizes how big it is.  Ever notice how Brazilian women always look amazing in their bikinis?  Their bikini bottoms are cut smaller making their bottoms look smaller.  (Yes, Brazilian women are hot and live on the beach so they know the tricks of the trade). So do not, I repeat, do not go out and grab the biggest pair of bottoms you see in order to cover your rump.  You are only calling more attention to the area you are trying to disguise. (Not to mention you will give yourself a case of what my BFF and I so lovingly refer to as “LA” (Long Ass)).

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do
Written by: WhyDid YouWearThat | Uncategorized,Why Did You Date Him?

breakup

In the last couple of months a few of my girlfriends have experienced some very wonky breakups.  Breaking up sucks.  We all know that and we’ve all been there.

Sometimes it is almost as painful to watch a breakup as it is to be in the middle of one (okay, probably not even close to “as painful” but it still sucks).  No matter what you say, your pal is totally bummed and basically the only person who’s going to be able to pull her out of that blackhole of wallowing is her.

So to you hot young babes suffering from serious heart pain, here are my tips on ways to forget that loser (because he really was one, after all) and get back on that horse (preferably a stallion). (more…)
