Why Did or Why Don’t: Overall Overhaul

By |July 17th, 2013|Celebrity Style, Why Did or Why Don't?|

As you may recall, I wasn’t particularly pleased when the whole “overalls” trend popped up this past fall.  It just seemed like such an unflattering and unladylike look for about, oh… 98.9% of the population.  But then something funny happened.

Trendsetting celebrities and stylish city girls put a positive spin on the formerly dowdy denim dungarees.  For some reason, I find the short version far less offensive than its full leg counterpart.   Dare I even call it cute?  So, I guess you could say my cold heart has melted… or it could just be this miserable mid-July heatwave, but you be the judge.

Girl Crush: Go-Go-Gomez

By |May 15th, 2013|Celebrity Style|

selena gomez fashionOnce a wizard of Waverly Place, Selena Gomez has ditched her Disney darling act as most recently showcased in the raunchy film, Spring Breakers.  Sure she caught a temporary case of Bieber fever, but it seems Ms. Gomez is growing up and moving on.  It’s alright, girl.  We’ve all made mistakes.  If we looked back at at my boyfriend at twenty, I’d be a little red faced too.  Along with her dating and career choices, her style is also evolving and with her glossy locks, long legs, and girl next door (in your dreams) looks, she’s setting herself up to be a real red carpet darling.  Not one to shy away from a bikini or midriff baring top (clearly, she spent two hours on the big screen in not much else), Gomez has captured the perfect mix between young woman and youthful age appropriateness- unlike some of her tween trainwreck graduates.  To get Gomez’s enviable style, grab some key pieces below and start doing some sit ups, like right now.

1. Vince Leather Hi Lo Tee, 2. Jimmy Choo Anouk Patent Leather Shoes, 3. bumble and bumble Shine On Finishing Spray, 4. Smith’s Rosebud Salve, 5. Olay Complete Defense Daily UV Moisturizer SPF 30, 6.  Oh- and I’m not ashamed to admit her new single is on repeat:

Why Did You Wear That: Fake It Til You Make It

By |November 7th, 2012|Why Did You Wear That?|

michael kors runwayTwo of this fall’s hottest trends are fur and leather.  Just about any store you walk into or any online shop you peruse will have a plethora of fuzzy and sleek options for your winter wardrobe.  And as chic as some of these styles may be, perhaps you are completely appalled by the thought of wearing the skin of another to  advance your fashion forward image.  Have no fear, you can still be very much on trend while ensuring that all of God’s creatures keep their coats.

Fortunately, many designers and brands are well aware of the reluctance of consumers to purchase pelts and have come up with some equally stylish faux and vegan options.  (Bonus– these faux options also happen to be a whole heck of a lot cheaper).  So, in honor of Joanna Krupa (who is fast becoming a fan favorite for all the Housewives), here are ten fantastically faux fall fashions:

peta friendly clothing1.Free People Call of the Wild Reversible Faux Fur Vest, $168, 2. KARL Jane Metallic Faux Leather Jacket, $290, 3. DKNY Faux Fur Vest, $295, 4. WhyDid or WhyDon’t?: Cut the Cord…

By |October 3rd, 2012|Why Did or Why Don't?|

corduroy bearWhen I think about corduroy, typically Birkenstocks and granola bars come to mind.  It’s been a while since corduroy has been en vogue (though that hasn’t stopped the fine folks of Northern California), but it would seem this fall, the textured textile has made its way back into top boutiques and fashion forward brands fall offerings.

And while wide wale cords sound anything but appealing, I’ve gotta admit… this season’s versions have really grown on me.  In slim cuts and updated colors they look more modern than those of our American Eagle wide legged past.  And what’s better than finally being able to combine fashion and function when the fahrenheit starts to dip?

corduroy pants1. Blank Denim Corduroy Leggings, $88, 2. Forever 21 Skinny Corduroy Pants, $19.80, 3. BDG Twig High-Rise Corduroy Pant, $59, 4. J Brand 511 Mid-Rise Corduroy Skinny Jeans, $175, 5. Current/Elliot Zip Stiletto Corduroy Pants, $255, 6. Gap 1969 Legging Cords, $59.95, 7. Rag & Bone The Skinny Mid-Rise Corduroy Jeans, $175, 8. By Zoe Riri Corduroy Pants, $201, 9. 7 for All Mankind Luxe Corduroy Skinny Jeans, $178, 10. Citizens of Humanity Avedon Luxury Corduroy, $198

So what’s your take on the reinvention of corduroy for fall?

Why Did You Wear That: We’re Doing Denim

celebrities in denim shirts

I realize that the mere mention of “denim shirt” may conjure up images of mullets, Canadian tuxedos, and probably a can of Miller Lite, but in the past few weeks, celebrities and style stars alike have proven that there are several very stylish ways to wear a denim shirt.  While Billy Ray is probably not your style icon, he’s notorious for sporting the style.  Take a deep breath and instead channel your inner Kate Bosworth, who showed us how to do denim on denim like a pro.  Not sure denim on denim is for you?  There’s a plethora of other stylish ways to pair your denim top.  Try one of these or mix and match:

ways to style a denim shirt1.  Topshop MOTO Sleeveless Denim Shirt, $56, 2.  Forever 21 Short Floral Skirt, $11.80, 3. AG Adriano Goldschmied Dakota Denim Shirt, $95.99, 4. Urban Renewal Destroyed Studded Short, $79, 5. DV by Dolce Vita Martine Dot Denim Shirt, $88, 6. Blank Denim Spray-On Skinny Jeans, $88, 7. Nasty Gal Cutoff Denim Shirt, $98, 8. Steffen Schraut Caramel Leather Pleated Skirt, $267
