Gift Guide: Jet, Set, Go

By |December 15th, 2015|Gift Guide|

airplane wingHaving just flown five hours from Hawaii to California and planning to fly another five hours back to New York later this week, the importance of having all the right tools to stay comfortable while looking cool became leg cramping painfully clear.  Other than having their own airport lounge available on call or a guarantee that they will get the entire row to themselves, there are several items that any frequent flyer on your holiday shopping list would appreciate receiving for their in flight entertainment.

Rather than doling out cash for a synthetic blanket that can only cover either your upper arms or your ankles (take your pick) or those janky headphones that make you feel as though you may be going deaf in your left ear (time to schedule an appointment with the local audiologist), prepare your loved ones with all they need to fly the friendly skies.  A cashmere blanket set, functional headphones, heavy duty lip balm, pens are always a great choice and travel guides for their final destination are both thoughtful and useful.  You may not be able to protect them from a crying baby or the guy who brought his salami sandwich on board, but you certainly can ease their airport anxiety with the gifts below.

Why Did You Wear That: Weekend Warrior

hamptons luxury linerAs summer and steamy weather welcomes its way into our lives, so do summer Fridays and weekends away.  A girlfriend and I chatted away while she packed for an exotic trip to Morocco and we laughed about how we were responsible packers and every man’s dream as we weren’t likely to pack every pair of shoes we own to match the six extra outfits that we brought “just in case.”  Well, except for that one trip I took last summer wherein my entire bag broke due to sheer weight and I was berated for the rest of the week about it. view more for travel related information. That was not only irresponsible packing, but irresponsible dating.  And as Hemingway once stated, “Never go on trips with anyone you do not love.”  But that is neither here nor there because more likely than not we will all be escaping the city at some point and we must have the proper bag to pack along with some travel accessories to keep our jewelry and cosmetics in check.

Friday Frocks: 2013- Fun While It Lasted

By |December 20th, 2013|Friday Frocks|

nye partyThe hardest decision you will be forced to make in 2013 is probably what to wear while bidding it adieu.  Oh?  You spent 2013 choosing a graduate school, getting engaged, and curing cancer?  Well, the last eleven months have been slightly less impressive for me.  I still have two halfway written novels collecting dust, a never ending to-do list, and a closet that’s needed to be cleaned out since 2011.  We’ll chock this one up to reacclimating to the East Coast.  Writing this post has actually just sent me into a miniature shame spiral much like when Facebook keeps asking if I’d like to see my year in review.  No.  Absolutely not.  I lived it.  No need to do it again.

But back to what really matters in the grand scheme of life and what will be posted all over your Facebook timeline come January 1st… your party dress!  While some still feel that the last night of the year is the best and most appropriate time to wear a dress strictly constructed of sequins, others feel the onslaught of nausea and would prefer the “anti-sparkle dress.”   I straddle the middle, but am more likely to wear sequins to Duane Reade on a random Tuesday to buy toilet paper than for a specific occasion that calls for them.  That said, there is a happy ending in all of this and its name is metallics.  I think a metallic frock is a much more modern take on shine than the oh so standard sequins.  So, look for something laced with lurex or punched up with patent to get the look sans gagging.

Hm… now that I’ve taken all the trouble out of finding something to wear, now you’ve got an even harder decision?  Who will you plant those luscious lips on at the stroke of midnight?

Why Did You Wear That: Party Pants

By |August 16th, 2011|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

This is one of my all time favorite outfits and these sequin shorts may seem silly, but I’ve found them to be awfully versatile. This particular pair of party pants has made its way from the Standard in New York to the Chateau Marmont in LA and had a blast all along the way.

Since moving up north, all my “fun” clothes have been doing nothing but collecting dust. Needless to say, my sequin shorts haven’t seen the light of day. Sorry, kids, unless you love to wear North Face, Patagonia and J. Crew when you’re feeling jazzy, Northern California is not for you.  But just because I’m suffering doesn’t mean you need to be.

Ready to turn your pants into a party? Thought so:

1. Kill City Good Country Muscle Tee, $52, 2. Chan Luu Sequined Track Shorts, $148, 3. Rachel Roy Cross Charm Bracelet, $65, 4. Anya Hindmarch Sea Snake Valerie Clutch, $650, 5. Dolce Vita Madison Platform Pump, $165

Are sequin shorts the new LBD? No, probably not, but they are certainly a fun addition to any girl’s wardrobe.
