Friday Frocks: Lil Bit of This, Lil Bit of That

By |November 8th, 2013|Friday Frocks|

Every woman, no matter her age, lifestyle, or body type must own the perfect LBD.  At times, a simple black frock can seem a bit dull, but there are some easy ways to add interest to an otherwise standard staple.  To avoid falling flat, texture can be a crucial part of keeping your LBD from being run of the mill.  Leather, lace, or a combination of the two will take you from standard to standout.  In a classic shape or something more au courant, the basic little black dress has never looked better.

Why Did You Wear That: Fresh Coat

By |October 22nd, 2013|Why Did You Wear That?|

coatsThe only item more clutch to one’s closet than the perfect fall boots is the perfect fall coat.  Growing up in Florida, I was unfamiliar with inclement winter weather.  Boy, was I in for a rude awakening during my first northeastern snow storm.  This was when I took a crash course in dressing for the elements.  Never again would I be chilled to the bone without the appropriate outerwear.  Someone wise once told me that if you have a nice coat, nice bag, and nice shoes during the winter, it doesn’t really matter whether you’re wearing sweats underneath– no one will even see them.  I’m not encouraging that, but I certainly wouldn’t shame you for running to Starbucks in your jammies so long as you cover them accordingly.  While you should have one go to coat to cover all occasions, you’re going to need a couple more to fill in the wardrobe gaps.  Below are some essential styles that will keep you warm and looking cool.

Why Did You Wear That: Lean, Mean, Teen Machines

By |August 12th, 2013|Red Carpet Recap, Why Did You Wear That?|

Anna Camp in Emilio Pucci, Nelly, JWow

If you weren’t wearing leather or a crop top last night, you weren’t at the Teen Choice Awards.  Yes, apparently award season has begun, yet again (did it ever end?), starting off with this year’s Teen Choice Awards.  I didn’t actually watch it because, A). I didn’t even know it was happening and B). I was busy holding court on my rooftop with my newlywed best friend and her happy husband.  However, I do love a red carpet recap, so I have taken the liberty of sorting through some of last night’s looks for your viewing pleasure (or displeasure).

Don’t worry, I don’t know who half of these people are either.  I’d most likely have more luck identifying rare South American rainforest fauna.  Yet, I don’t struggle in the least when it comes to spotting the good, the green, and the obscenely ridiculous looks of the red carpet.  Whether you love or loathe crop tops- they’re happening and though it may still be mid-summer, you’d be better off looking for a pair of leather pants (and potentially bra top) for fall.  Green in all hues was the color of the carpet though it didn’t necessarily result in envy.  Nelly, Sandra, and Kerry may have been the only attendees over the age of 30, but these teen queens are all but bursting at the seams to show off their fashion chops pushing all boundaries. Friday Frocks: Pretty in Pastel

By |March 29th, 2013|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

pastel tea partyPastels and spring just seem to go together (kind of like champagne and orange juice) and seeing as this weekend we are breaking fifty degrees in Manhattan, it finally feels like spring has arrived.  Whether you’re putting on your Easter bonnet or celebrating Passover, a pastel frock is right on trend for this season.  Muted mint, dusty pink, or light lavender are flattering shades for even the most sun deprived skin.  So, grab your mimosa and settle down for Sunday brunch in something pretty and pastel.

Friday Frocks: In Full Bloom

By |March 15th, 2013|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

The Soho House roof has reopened, restaurants have started seating outdoors, and I’ve started applying self tanner.  Spring has (almost) arrived.  Keeping in theme with getting into the springtime spirit, the best kind of frocks are those with flowers.  Don’t fret, Pollyanna, not all floral frocks have to be fussy.  Get a flower printed pattern cut in a sleek modern silhouette to look feminine, but not five years old.  Not only is this look totally on trend, it’s sure to get you through the onslaught of summer weddings you’ll be forced to attend.
