Why Did You Wear That: Unseasonably Short

By |December 6th, 2011|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

Who says shorts are for summertime only?  There’s a reason they make shorts in winter fabrics like tweed, velvet, and leather.  They are meant to be worn out in the arctic blast.  Why should denim and cotton have all the fun?  They shouldn’t.  You’ve worked long and hard on those lanky legs.  Might as well show them off… all year long.  Wear your winter weight shorts with opaque or patterned tights, a cozy cashmere turtleneck, and tall boots to take this look from beachside to fireside.  Don’t forget to Follow WhyDid’s winter shorts guidelines though.  There’s a very fine line between sensibly chic and dirty little freak.

Yeah, somehow everything turns into a Smitty and me dance party.  Yes, I am one of those assholes who dresses her dog.  In my defense, he just got a haircut and it’s reached an unbearably cold 45 degrees here in sunny California.  He was shivering today.  What kind of mother would I be if I didn’t put him in a sweater?  Smitty says if you like my outfit and wanna have a dance party with him, try out this similar look below.

By |November 11th, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

Alright, so the chances of taking a swan dive into clear blue waters at this time of year are probably slim to none for most of us… but that doesn’t mean you can’t take the plunge this fall.  Step away from the high dive and step over to your closet.  A deep v neckline is one heck of a way to make an entrance into any holiday party.  Just don’t forget your double sided tape!

Friday Frocks: Oh Baby, Baby!

By |August 12th, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

Since we’ve been on the topic… The last thing I feel like doing when I have a “friend in town” is squeezing myself into a dress tight enough to cut off all blood circulation and then shoving my poor undeserving toes into shoes that could serve as a form of ancient torture.  Whether you’re feeling the bloat like me or you just want to indulge in dessert at dinner, the babydoll dress is the answer to all of our problems.  Flowy and romantic, it is feminine enough not to be frumpy.  While you wont’ be able to see the outline of your organs, you’ll still look pretty.  Guys probably won’t be a fan of this one… but your tummy will.

1. Urban Outfitters Laine Dress, $19.99, 2. Jen’s Pirate Booty Pandora Babydoll Dress, $145, 3. Betsey Johnson Rose Chiffon Short Babydoll Dress, $298, 4. Plastic Island Rose Babydoll Dress, $158, 5. Friday Frocks: Some Day My “Prints” Will Come

By |January 28th, 2011|Friday Frocks|

Once upon a time there was a fair maiden with a closet full of beautiful black frocks.  She wore her always chic, always sophisticated staple pieces day in and day out without putting too much thought into it.  One day, she tired of looking like all the other maidens in the land and decided to spice things up a bit.  She did so by adding colors and patterns into her daily routine.  She was already lovely, but in her new fun and flirty frocks, she stood out from the rest.  This caused her to catch the eye of a very handsome prince.  He appreciated her independent spirit and confidence.

L to R: Nanette Lepore Go Getter Printed Dress, $298, Herve Leger Geometric Print Mini Dress, $1,850, Thakoon Floral Print Peasant Dress, $665, Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent High Low Tank Dress, $335, Topshop Navy Petal Print Notch Tea Dress, $78

L to R: Parker Print Ruffle Dress, $195, Joie Perrier Silk Floral Printed Dress, $228, Matthew Williamson Escape Printed Silk Chiffon Dress, $1,350, RebeccaTaylor Leopard Print Ruffle Dress, $295, Alice and Olivia Matilda Boquet Print Dress, $367

After seeing how these prints caught the prince’s attention, all the other maidens followed suit.  Luckily, with so many options in color, prints, and patterns, none of the maidens ever looked the same.

And they all lived happily ever after.
