Would You Wednesday: Do You Have a Hall Pass?

By |March 16th, 2011|Why Did or Why Don't?|

I haven’t seen Hall Pass (nor do I plan on it) but it certainly got me thinking… would people really do this?  Basically, from what I can tell from the previews, the premise is that these married men receive a one week “hall pass” from their wives to do whatever they like (no rules) for one week.  Sounds like a fantastic idea.

Couple things: 1). if your hubsters even has an inkling of wanting to go frolick in greener pastures, you should probs just let him go. Forever. 2). If you’re dumb enough to agree to such, you need to go ahead and seek therapy STAT.

I feel similarly to bachelor/bachelorette parties, but we can get into that at another time.  Why on Earth would you go handing out a hall pass to your husband like naive substitute teacher?

Class is dismissed.

Monday Mashup: Victorious Vampires

By |March 14th, 2011|Monday Mashup|

The latest US Weekly did a feature called, “What’s in My Bag” featuring Vampire Diaries’ Nina Dobrev.  Cute idea, right?  Well, here’s the problem… as the Fug Girls so brilliantly pointed out… US Weekly used a picture of Victoria Justice rather than Nina, herself.  Whoops!  A major blunder by any publishing standards.  However, I’m kind of willing to cut them a break… kind of (they are a nationally published CELEBRITY GOSSIP magazine. Should probs get the facts straight, right?).  Take a gander at the photo below and you tell me who is who:

(btw- Nina is on the left.  Victoria’s on the right).

Why Did You Eat That: It’s Pie Time You Try This

By |March 14th, 2011|Recipes, Why Did You Eat That?|

On Saturday night, my dad made us delicious chicken and veggies on the grill.  While that was awfully healthy, I was left craving something sweet for dessert.  We headed to Nob Hill to pick up something and decided on some decadent chocolate pie.  While, the pie certainly satisfied my sweet tooth, it was not nearly as delightful as a pie that my mom used to make.  I immediately picked up the phone and demanded the recipe (okay, I just asked politely).

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup of Kahlua (or Godiva liqueur)
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 10-15 Chips Ahoy chocolate chip cookies
  • Large container of Cool Whip (you can use Lite – if you must)

Directions:

  1. Place Kahlua and milk in a small bowl (wide enough to put a cookie in).
  2. Dip cookies in the the Kahlua/milk mixture quickly (so as not to get too soggy) and place in the bottom of a pie plate (use five to six cookies going around the outside and one cookie in the center).
  3. After all the cookies are placed inside the pan, use your fingers to crush cookies into a crust.
  4. Use half of the Cool Whip to cover the cookie crust.
  5. Repeat step two adding a second layer of cookies. (DO NOT crush the cookies this time!)
  6. Use the remaining Cool Whip to cover up the cookie layer.
  7. Crumble cookies or shave a chocolate bar on top for a little pizazz.
  8. Cover pie and place in freezer until ready to enjoy.  Let sit about 10-15 minutes before devouring.

It’s easy. It’s delicious.  You’re so, very welcome. You may need to do an extra 20 minutes on the elliptical to make up for it, but this pie is totally worth it.

Friday Frocks: Yeah Baby!

By |March 11th, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

It’s no secret that the runways have been channeling the swinging seventies and we’ve seen that flares are making a re-emergence.  With spring just around the corner, what better way to get into the spirit than with a flowy patterned frock?  I’m not talking about fembots and shooting bullets out of your brassiere.  I’m talking about flowing fabrics in psychedelic prints.

Top (L to R): Topshop Dandelion Print One Bell Sleeve Dress, $100, Betsey Johnson Winter Bouquet Burnout Chiffon Tunic, $278, Parker Double Flared Sleeve Dress, $220, Halston Heritage Tunic Mini Dress, $219 Bottom (L to R): Halston Heritage Metallic Pleated Deep V Dress, $395, Nightcap Clothing Priscilla Dress, $264, Winter Kate Devi Dress, $215, Voom by Joy Han Faire Bell Sleeve Off the Shoulder Dress, $195

These breezy dresses would look great paired with flat over the knee boots and a leather jacket until it’s warm enough to lose the boots and strap on some platform sandals.

jacket: Marc New York Stone Leather Asymmetrical Zip Moto Jacket, $399, boots: Loeffler Randal Riley Over the Knee Suede Boots, $825

sandal: Miu Miu Stitch Detail Platform Sandals, $595

Shagadelic, baby! Yeah!

Beauty Buzz: Two Faced

By |March 10th, 2011|Beauty Buzz|

Outfits aren’t the only thing we need to learn to transition from day to night.  Not only do we need to switch from our sensible shoes into our stilettos and lose the cardigan for happy hour, we gotta transition uur pretty little faces as well. We  shouldn’t be wearing the same makeup during the day as we do during our evenings out. Below are my “two faces” of makeup.

Your “day face”, in my opinion, should literally take five minutes.  Unless you’re about to go on camera for something, there is no reason to cover up your beautiful face with layers of gunk.  Think how long your days can be.  Make sure your skin can still breathe and your eye makeup won’t be falling down your face by 6pm making you look like a cheap tranny.  The key to this look is to look like you’re hardly wearing any makeup at all.  We’re all this gorgeous naturally, right? I mean, I wake up like this!

  1. Benefit Benetint How many different ways can I tell you I love this stuff? Dab on the cheeks and swipe on the lips for a natural flush.
  2. Maybelline EyeStudio in Purple Radiance – Granted I don’t love colored eyeshadow, but a smudge (like, as in, I use my fingers to apply) of this across my lids really brightens up my baby blues.
  3. Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Been using this since high school!  One of the best, most natural bronzers I’ve ever tried.  Puts the meaning in “tried and true.”
  4. Remede Translucent UV Coat I told you before about discovering this and I’m still totally stuck on it.  Gives great daytime coverage and UV protection.
  5. Aquaphor (travel size) Can not live a day without this in my bag.  It’s great for all kinds of ailments- most importantly dry lips!
  6. Sephora Super Shimmer Lip Gloss I lose lip gloss every time I buy it.  Sephora has great colors and they won’t set you bac $30 each time you lose one inside the depths of your bag.
  7. Maybelline Lash Stiletto Voluptuous This is my “workhorse” mascara.  Just like Stephie, I’ve tried a ton and have come back to this several times.

So, when it’s time to go from day to night, you need to amp up the intensity.  For evening, I still use everything in my “day” look except for #2, and #6.  Then I add some more of my favorites for that extra “oomph.”

  1. Tarte Eye Couture Day to Night Shadow Tarte consistently makes my favorite eyeshadows.  They are so shimmery and saturated.
  2. Laura Mercier Eyeliner in Black Ebony.  My mom taught me to use my eyeshadow as eyeliner when I was younger.  I was pretty psyched when I was actually able to buy eyeliner that was meant to be applied with a wet brush.
  3. Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Are You Red-dy This is a great shade of red for anyone with similar coloring.  I played a little game of drugstore roulette and won with this color!
  4. Clinique Almost Powder in Neutral – I actually love Trish McEvoy Mineral Powder, but it’s not always easy to find, so Clinique is also a great option for a light powder that covers up shine.
  5. NARS The Multiple in Orgasm – You know how I feel about this already.  Gives such a great shimmer for evening.

Clearly, I’m not a makeup snob.  I’ve tried so many different products and I really just like using what works whether it’s $5 or $50.

Being “two faced” has a whole new meaning.
