Girl Crush: You Can Ring My Belle

By |February 2nd, 2011|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

A girlfriend of mine BBM’ed me the other day in a total frenzy.  She wanted to tell me about her new girl crush and ask me if having feelings of sheer adoration for a fellow female was normal.  I reassured her that a good ol’ fashion girl crush is NBD (no big deal).  There’s nothing wrong with a little female appreciation.  Hell, we could probably use more of that kind of girl power!

Speaking of girl crushes, WhyDid has one of its own.  I had seen Camilla Belle in photos here and there and had heard her name, but it wasn’t until I saw her wearing that sexy silver Armani dress to a Golden Globes after party that she really caught my attention.  Yowza! Who is that beautiful brunette?  Her classically beautiful features and shiny dark locks are only complemented by her flawless skin and killer stems.  Sigh, I want to grow up and look like her. Though I’m still not clear as to what exactly she is famous for  other than stealing a Jonas brother away from T. Swift (I think she was in A Little Princess – in which case, I’ve definitely seen it), I still think she is a certifiable stunner.

While, the chances of me waking up tomorrow and looking like Camilla are slim to none (I’m banking on none), I’ve compiled a collection of goodies that will have me sharing some of Ms. Belle’s sexy style.  Pops of color, shiny metallics, grey pumps, smokey eyes with a glossy lip, and that gorgeous glowing skin are all pieces to the Camilla pie.  Don’t mind if I do…

Top (L to R): Yumi Kim Sheila Dress, $193, Ungaro Fever Platform Pumps, $235, Beauty in a Box Smoky Eyes Palette, $36, Tarte Vitamin Infused Lip Gloss, $21

Bottom (L to R): L.A.M.B. Chloe Heels, $325, Victoria’s Secret Ruched Cowlneck Dresss, $58, Pleasure Doing Business Metallic Sweetheart Dress, $330, Nars Bronzing Powder, $33,  Keratin Complex Shine, $16

Oh… I’ve just been informed she’s going to be in some movie called From Prada to Nada… well, she’s still pretty.

Why Did You Wear That: A Touch of Turquoise

By |February 1st, 2011|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

Seems that the stars of Hollywood have a new best friend.  Recent red carpets reveal that the gals are trading in their diamonds for a much more colorful stone in their accessories.  The first notable turquoise appearance was on Blake Lively when she wore it to the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures Awards Gala back in January.  The pop of unexpected color works especially well with jewel tones, crisp whites, and warm citrus hues.  So next time your ensemble seems a bit lackluster, why not add some color with a touch of turquoise.

L to R: Max and Chloe Primadina Turquoise Single Ring, $220, Lauren by Ralph Lauren Turquoise Teardrop Necklace, $78, Kenneth Jay Lane Cabochon Bangle, $150, Ippolita Rock Candy Drop Earrings, $850

L to R: Jose and Maria Barrera Turquoise Teardrop Earrings, $240,  Jose and Maria Barrera Long Pendant Necklace, $1,025, Kendra Scott Pop Some Bubbly Cocktail Ring, $75, Jose and Maria Barrera Multi Strand Turquoise Bracelet, $490

SAG 2011: Ladies Brought Their A-Game

By |January 31st, 2011|Red Carpet Recap|

Last night the brightest and most beautiful joined together to celebrate the 2011 Screen Actor’s Guild Awards.  I was tuned in and ready to scream at my TV screen as I watched the red carpet arrivals, but surprisingly, there was not much to be angry about (um, except for you Jane Lynch… wtf?).  All I can conclude from this is that these sexy starlets must be reading WhyDid.

Great Whites:

Let me be perfectly clear… I am not, by any means, saying that I love all of these dresses. I am merely pointing out how dead on I was with white being the new black.  While Winona looks like a crazy runaway bride, Natalie was absolutely breathtaking (not to mention she finally heeded my advice about embracing her baby bump).  The ladies in white looked like real life angels on the red carpet.

Hote Hues:

Nothing makes me happier than seeing young hot Hollywood embracing color.   From juicy tangerine shades, to shocking pinks, to spring’s hottest stripes, these ladies nailed it.  They took these saturated shades on with a vengeance.

Under the Sea:

From deep navy to patterned hues of green and blue, these ladies put the Little Mermaid to shame.  Each dress encompassed a different feeling, but all embraced beautiful ocean shades and flattered the ladies who dared to wear them.

Subtle Shades:

If you know anything about WhyDid, you know that I love shades that are slightly off white– bonus if they include a bit of shimmer.  Each of these lovely ladies embraced a bit of both.  I can’t help but wonder if the girls of Glee didn’t plan to look equally as stunning in these subtle hues.

While I was looking forward to some red carpet calamities, I’m now actually looking forward to the red carpet of the Academy Awards.

Friday Frocks: Some Day My “Prints” Will Come

By |January 28th, 2011|Friday Frocks|

Once upon a time there was a fair maiden with a closet full of beautiful black frocks.  She wore her always chic, always sophisticated staple pieces day in and day out without putting too much thought into it.  One day, she tired of looking like all the other maidens in the land and decided to spice things up a bit.  She did so by adding colors and patterns into her daily routine.  She was already lovely, but in her new fun and flirty frocks, she stood out from the rest.  This caused her to catch the eye of a very handsome prince.  He appreciated her independent spirit and confidence.

L to R: Nanette Lepore Go Getter Printed Dress, $298, Herve Leger Geometric Print Mini Dress, $1,850, Thakoon Floral Print Peasant Dress, $665, Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent High Low Tank Dress, $335, Topshop Navy Petal Print Notch Tea Dress, $78

L to R: Parker Print Ruffle Dress, $195, Joie Perrier Silk Floral Printed Dress, $228, Matthew Williamson Escape Printed Silk Chiffon Dress, $1,350, RebeccaTaylor Leopard Print Ruffle Dress, $295, Alice and Olivia Matilda Boquet Print Dress, $367

After seeing how these prints caught the prince’s attention, all the other maidens followed suit.  Luckily, with so many options in color, prints, and patterns, none of the maidens ever looked the same.

And they all lived happily ever after.

Why Did You Wear That: White Hot

By |January 25th, 2011|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

The weather outside is frightful (unless you live in Los Angeles), but there’s no need to stay curled up inside like a hermit or flip your shit like the abominable snowman.  Take a note from some very stylish celebs.  Wearing white after Labor Day is no longer a fashion faux pas.  Some of the sexiest starlets have been sporting winter white on all of the hottest red carpets.

So, before you reserve yourself to alpaca and shearling for the rest of the winter months, why not try out this winter’s most fiercely feminine color?  Be sure to pick something in a heavier (winter weight) fabric.  If you live somewhere especially frigid, look for long sleeves and pair your look with opaque or patterned tights.  For footwear? Add a dash of color or something shiny!

Top (L to R): Alexander Wang Ribbed Tank Dress, $545, Halston Heritage Short Dress, $490, Milly Sleeveless Jewel Neck Dress, $355, Reiss Nanette Zip Frill Dress, $310

Bottom (L to R): Indah Macrame Back Mini Dress, $154, Acne Dolphin Draped Silk Wrap Dress, $660, Lauren by Ralph Lauren Carrie Boatneck Dress, $129, Religion 3/4 Length Dress, $98

Frosty!
