Would You Wednesday: I’m Slipping, I’m Falling, I Can’t Get Up.

By |August 1st, 2012|Why Did or Why Don't?, Why Did You Wear That?|

bunny slippersWhile there’s nothing quite like strapping on the strappiest of stilettos for an evening out on the town, a wise woman knows that there are certain times, she’s just got to be sensible.  In New York, this time is usually the commute from home base to final destination.  Do you have any idea what subway grates will do to your Jimmy Choos?  And while in most other cities, your high heels need only make it from front door to front seat of your car, there are still times when you must  give your poor tired toes a break.

Sure, in the summer there are flat sandals, and we’ve been offered the option of ballet flats for fall, but what if those aren’t really your style?  Ballet flats aren’t for everyone, afterall.  So, grab your silk smoking jacket and a pipe, because this year, the smoking shoe or “house slipper” has made a comeback and you don’t have to be Hugh Hefner to pull it off.  From Christian Louboutin to Forever 21, you can pick up the look in a variety of styles and plethora of prices.

So, would you trade in your Tory Burch for smoking slippers?

Why Did You Wear That: Call of the Wild

By |July 29th, 2012|Celebrity Style, Look for Less, Why Did You Wear That?|

You know, leopard print tends to get a bit of a bad rap… and I guess I can see why.  When used in excess, it can leave a lady looking more like a tramp.  However, leopard doesn’t have to be all hookers and Housewives.  It also doesn’t need to be condoned to only the evening prowl.  Leopard is kind of a new neutral and when paired with the right pieces, it can actually look down right feminine.  Don’t believe me?  Here are three different ladies showing us three different ways to get a little catty in the right way:

Red Carpet Recap: Childhood Favorites

By |July 23rd, 2012|Red Carpet Recap|

teen choice awards red carpet

If you weren’t watching The Bachelorette finale last night, it was obviously only because you were watching this year’s Teen Choice Awards.  Known to be the more squeaky clean of award shows, Hollywood’s youngest stars came out in droves in hopes of collecting that shiny surfboard.  Well, I don’t really care too much who wins what, I’m really just focused on who wore what.  What came to my attention as I gathered images for this recap was that while some of Hollywood’s hottest looked downright adorable, perhaps others were taking that whole wholesome look to extremes.  It would appear some of the ladies were channeling their favorite childhood characters.  (To be fair, I had to Google 89% of these people.  I guess that’s what happens when you are middle aged).

Why Did You Wear That: Who Wears Short Shorts?

When you think of shorts, you probably automatically envision a casual day running errands or just hanging out in the backyard (ha, backyard).  Rarely, would you think of shorts as formal, but as of late, shorts have taken a turn towards formal.  Celebrities have opted for shorts on the red carpet and have dressed up even their casual cut offs with feminine blouses.  So, next time you’re staring into the depths of your closet trying to figure out what exactly to wear, don’t forget about your abbreviated pants (also known as shorts).  Dressed up with heels and a sexy blouse, you have another option for a warm weather evening look that is anything but expected.

Why Did You Wear That: Coach at LensCrafters

By |July 19th, 2012|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

kirsten smith lenscrafters coachYou know one thing that I love to do is read.  As a little girl the library and the book store were two of my favorite places to get lost in.  Yes, I was that kid who was excited for library class.  Dewey decimal system, what?  Well, as I got older, I found that I had an astigmatism and was going to need to wear glasses.  I tried wearing contacts, but the thought of touching my eyeballs freaked me out, so fantastic frames it was!

kirsten smith glassesOver the past couple of years, the stigma of eyeglasses has gone right out the window.  As a matter of fact, glasses have become downright trendy.  Non vision impaired ladies have started sporting eyewear and even celebrities have been seen walking the red carpet in their glasses.  Perhaps it’s due to designers creating styles that are not only comfortable, but totally chic.  Enter Coach at LensCrafters.  Talk about a perfect pairing!  Now you can get the best in eye care along with the best in fashion.  I love the look of the Cecilia frames in tortoise.  The slight cat eye shape gives just the right amount of retro feel for my reading and the pop of green inside makes them anything but boring.
