Beauty Buzz: So Fresh and So Clean

By |December 2nd, 2010|Beauty Buzz|

Everyone wants clean, clear, smooth skin. I mean, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t. Except maybe my dog. However, we don’t always have the time or the resources to get to the spa for a facial every single month.  However, this is no excuse to abandon your skincare regimen. I made a How To video about how to make a great at home facial, but if you’re in need of of quick fix, I’ve also got you covered.

Murad Pomegranate Exfoliating Mask, $22.50

I read that this is what a lot of makeup artists use on clients before applying makeup because it really smooths and evens out the skin. I didn’t have particularly high expectations for this mask cause they all tend to just be lies. Lies, I tell you. When I smoothed it on, it was very, very cold and tingly. I left it on for the allotted fifteen minutes and then rinsed my face with a washcloth (it was nearly impossible to try and get it off with my bare hands). After patting my face dry with a towel, I was amazed at how “glowy” my face looked. It really did look clearer, smoother, and brighter. Even my fiance commented on how pretty my skin looked. *Note: after using the mask, it is much easier to extract blemishes (or perform face surgery as my fiance calls it). I definitely, definitely recommend this if your skin needs a little pick me up!

silky, silky now.

Beauty Buzz: Tame the Beast

By |November 25th, 2010|Beauty Buzz|

So, you may be aware that I have a ton of hair (on my head). While most of the time it seems to be under control… that doesn’t happen without a little bit of struggle. My hair is naturally wavy/curly.  I am not lucky enough to be able to just flip my head upside and blow it straight with a few strokes of the old hair brush. Getting my coif sleek and straight is a bit of  workout.

Last week, while popping in to say “hello” to my new friends at Neihule Salon, I asked for a recommendation of a great straightening product for blowing my hair straight. The lovely Megan walked me right over to the Loreal Texture Expert Fluid Intense Straightening Serum. She informed me that this was what all the stylists at the salon were using for blowouts and that this product was especially good for the long term health of my hair. Seeing as I could have played the lead in Tangled, I was happy to know this would protect and maintain my long locks. I went ahead and purchased the product and headed home to test it out.

Loreal Texture Expert Fluid Intense Straightening Serum, $24

After shampooing and conditioning, I applied the serum and was happy to see my hair already starting to behave after brushing it through. I blew my hair dry as usual and noticed that I only had to spend half as much time straightening any rogue waves or frizz with the flat iron (also a bonus for the health of my strands). Needless to say, I was very happy with my silky, slinky straight hair when finished. It also helped keep my  hair straight for a couple of days after, which always makes me very happy.

Beauty Buzz: Zap that Zit

By |November 18th, 2010|Beauty Buzz|

Ugh. There is nothing more embarrassing than a huge red pulsating pimple on your pretty face. A nasty zit can ruin anybody’s day (unless, of course you’re Rudolph and no one will notice). The first thing you probably feel like doing is going after your blemish like Saddam Hussein hiding in that hole. However, you need to resist the urge. Squeezing and squishing can lead to even more swelling and redness, not to mention, if popped improperly, you can actually push the infection further back into your skin. Ick.

Here are five home remedy quick fixes for zapping a zit:

  1. Before bed and after washing your face apply a dab of toothpaste (paste, not gel) on the problem area. Wash off the next morning and notice the pimple’s diminished size.
  2. After getting the gunk off your face, apply lemon juice with a cotton ball as a “toner” and then wash off. For more concentrated use, dab lemon juice on the pimple and leave over night.
  3. Crush up aspirin in a bowl, add a few drops of warm water and aloe vera or honey to create a paste. Apply to face and leave on for fifteen minutes before washing off.
  4. Wrap an ice cube in a washcloth and apply to the pimple for 20-30 seconds at a time. Repeat every so often to reduce the swelling and redness of the pimple.
  5. Applying honey to the problem area will kill the bacteria and clear up the skin. Leave on over night.

Hopefully, one of these handy remedies will rid you of that nasty mess. Remember, do not touch your pimple. The less you touch it, the better. Believe it or not, your hands are dirty! If all else fails, pick up a great concealer, like Makeup Forever HD Invisible Cover Concealer, $28.

  2. Lauren Conrad looks lovely at the VH1 Save the Music Foundation Gala with a sweet side knot.
  3. Kate Hudson at the Glamour Women of The Year Awards sporting some very classic Hollywood curls.
  4. Gwyneth Paltrow with a smokey eye and sleek locks at the premiere of her new movie, Country Strong.
  5. Elle Fanning looks super sweet wearing straight tresses with a embellished headband at the premiere of The Nutcracker 3D.

Beauty Buzz: Five Minute Face

By |November 11th, 2010|Beauty Buzz|

Seeing as most of us are not movie stars or celebrities, there is no need to walk around with a cake face of perfect makeup on a daily basis. However, there is also no need to look like a walking zombie. To arrive at a happy  medium, follow these five easy steps with five fantastic products that will have you fresh faced and out the door in five minutes.

  1. After cleansing your face and applying your favorite moisturizer, it’s time to smooth out any flaws (as if you have any!). A tinted moisturizer or a mineral powder to cover up shine are great options.Philosophy The Supernatural Airbrushed Canvas SPF 15, $35
  2. Once you’re all smooth and seamless, it’s times to add a little color to those cheeks. My favorites still remain Benefit Benetint ($28) and Nars The Multiple in Orgasm . Nars The Multiple in Orgasm, $38
  3. Now that you’re glowing, it’s time to focus on your beautiful peepers. Added bonus of Nars The Multiple? It can be used on your lids! Once you’ve smoothed some color onto your lids, it’s time to define your brows. Revlon ColorStay Brow Enhancer, $8.99
  4. Finish off your eyes by brushing on a coat of  your favorite mascara. Dior Show is a tried and true.
Dior Dior Show Blackout Mascara, $24
  5. Last, but most definitely not least, pucker up. (Bonus time: Benetint can also be used on your lips for a berry stained pout). Slick on your favorite gloss and you’re good to go!
