Friday Frocks: In Full Bloom

The Soho House roof has reopened, restaurants have started seating outdoors, and I’ve started applying self tanner.  Spring has (almost) arrived.  Keeping in theme with getting into the springtime spirit, the best kind of frocks are those with flowers.  Don’t fret, Pollyanna, not all floral frocks have to be fussy.  Get a flower printed pattern cut in a sleek modern silhouette to look feminine, but not five years old.  Not only is this look totally on trend, it’s sure to get you through the onslaught of summer weddings you’ll be forced to attend.

Friday Frocks: Shiny Disco Balls

toasting at midnight

2012 is just about over… and I can’t pretend I’m sad about it.  To say it wasn’t my best year on record would be a minor massive understatement.  That said, I am really looking forward to bidding this year adieu.  Doing so will, of course, require a festive frock.  Last year I provided the alternative to a sequin stunner, but who am I kidding?  I love shiny things.  (I also love miniature horses and champagne cocktails).  Give me a reason to add glitter and I’ll gladly take you up on it.  New Year’s Eve is the perfect occasion to shine, so dust off those paillettes and party hats, the countdown to midnight has begun.

Setting the Mood: American as Apple Pie
Written by: WhyDid | Setting the Mood

god bless america I know I may complain a bit (who me?) and threaten to run off to the south of France from time to time, but the fact is, we do live in a truly great country.  We’re free to do what we please- whether that be speak our minds or watch as much Real Housewives as our brains can tolerate.  Clearly, seeing as there is an entire market dedicated to apparel smattered with our American flag, I am not alone in my love of the land of the free.    So, let’s try and remember why we’ve been awarded the freedoms that we have and wear our flags oh so proudly.

Friday Frocks: Something’s Off… White

girl on a bikeRemember the silly little antiquated rule about not wearing white before Memorial Day?  Well, I’m fairly certain once that pesky groundhog gives the go ahead, it’s fair game.  Still not sure if it’s too soon?  Okay, fine.  So you haven’t headed out to the Hamptons yet and the rose has yet to be put on ice and your skin may or may not still resemble a reel of paper.  Got it.  Until then, why not muster up the courage in a shade slightly less stark than pure white?  Slipping into something cream, eggshell, bone, whatever you want to call it, is a great way to transition into summer without looking totally overzealous.  Plus, to be quite honest, it’s much more flattering on 90% of all skin tones.

Friday Frocks: Born To Be Wild

leopardI look forward to Friday for oh so many reasons and I get the feeling I’m not alone.  One of those reasons is the prospect of letting my hair down, slipping out of something standard, and perhaps getting a little bit wild.  What better way to let people know you are serious about having fun than sporting a little something borrowed from our friends in the animal kingdom?

In case you haven’t noticed, leopard and animal prints aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.  In my opinion, leopard print is a new neutral.  If you tire of the standard “as seen in nature” prints, opt for a recolored print.

1. Torn by Ronny Kobo Jill Lace Leopard Combo Dress, $232, 2. Vix Mali Snake Print Jersey Mini Dress, $125, 3. Rachel Pally Peg Dress, $109.99, 4.
