Beauty Buzz: Big Bang Theory

By |March 24th, 2011|Beauty Buzz|

The bangs this season are serious.  Designers like Twinkle by Wenlan (shown above) and Mulberry showed their collections styled with blunt bangs.  If you’re going to try out bangs, you’re going to need to commit.  They are thick, heavy, and blunt.  These bangs are not for the faint of heart.  In. It. To. Win. It. Think Anna Karina:

Bangs are a great way to change up your look without the permanence of color or full on cut.  Many a celeb has tested out this trend herself:

Maybe you’ll love them, maybe you’ll hate them, but they’ll grow out in a couple of months!  And luckily, side pinned bangs are another one of springs hottest trends.

You’re banging, baby.

Why Did You Wear That: Red Hot Red Carpet

By |February 28th, 2011|Red Carpet Recap|

Without a doubt the color of the 2011 Academy Awards was fierce, fiery, red.  From the beautifully structured Vera Wang gown donned by the always stunning Sandra Bullock, to the incredibly minimal Calvin Klein sheath that Jennifer Lawrence slipped into, red was the color that stole the show.  These ladies prove that anyone can look stellar in red.  Whether you are a deep brunette or a sunny blonde, all you need to do is choose the right shade of crimson for you.

If you didn’t go for bold fire engine red, you might have picked something shimmery.  Metallics were still very strong on the red carpet for the Oscars.  One of my very favorites was the ethereal Monique Lhuillier gown worn by Mandy Moore. Also wearing a gauzy gown, was Halle Berry in Marchesa.  My only qualm with her is that same old hairdo.  Time for an update, girl.  Hailee Steinfeld also wore Marchesa (designed for her!) and looked absolutely adorable and age appropriate.  I think we have a future fashionista on our hands.

Two other lovely ladies who wore the metallic trend were Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein and Celine Dion in Armani Prive.  I must admit, my initial reaction to Gwyneth was “Ick!”  The more I looked at her and saw detail shots, the more I loved how simple and chic her sequin sheath was.  Celine picked a perfect Armani Prive option.  It’s hard to believe this woman just gave birth to twins!

One of the first dresses that I saw when tuning into the red carpet arrivals was Mila Kunis’s Elie Saab gown.  Although I was really nervous about her having a nip slip at any given moment, I already knew she was my best dressed for the evening.  I absolutely loved that shade of lavender on her (or really on anyone for that matter).  The dress was detailed and romantic without being fussy.  Another dress in this same hue, was Cate Blanchett’s Givenchy creation.  This was another dress that I despised upon first glance, but I have to say, the detailing on it was amazing and the color was perfect with her hair and makeup.  I also love the pop of citrusy yellow/green beading that carries over to the back. I think it’s the weird square sleeve’lettes that are throwing me off.

The next two dresses were quite controversial as I watched my Twitter feed this evening.  At first glance, I really like the way Amy Adams looks in her L’wren Scott sequined column dress.  There’s nothing prettier than a red head wearing navy blue.  However, her accessories were totally unnecessary.  She didn’t need them at all.  A lot of people were calling this “Jessica Rabbit gone wrong” but I think it was a really pretty look for her.  Marisa Tomei sported a vintage Charles James navy gown.  I really don’t like this dress.  Mostly because it just does not fit her.  It is totally ill fitted and it actually looks uncomfortable under her armpits.

I’m fairly certain everyone was waiting with bated breath to see what Natalie Portman would wear tonight.  She was a late arrival and some even thought she might not do the red carpet at all due to her impending pregnancy.  But alas, she arrived in Rodarte and looked absolutely flawless.  She appeared to be completely miserable during her interviews on the red carpet, but let’s just blame that on pregnancy hormones.  Another man’s fantasy woman who wore a similar shade was Scarlett Johansson.  As beautiful as she is, her Dolce and Gabbana reminded me of something you could have purchased from bebe circa 2002.  I also, am not digging her new ‘do whatsoever.  All I wanted to do was spritz her with some dry shampoo and run a brush through it not to mention the FUPA illusion it is giving her.

I can’t say that I was truly appalled by anyone’s outfit this evening, which is totally disappointing… well, except Mark Ruffalo’s wife’s bizarre extra arm appendage dress thingy. So who were you favorites on the red carpet?

Perhaps the stylists in Hollywood need to communicate more.  Having a twin on the red carpet might be every starlet’s worst nightmare, but seeing double gives us much more to compare come Monday.  While I have my own opinions on who rocked the look best, I’m going to go ahead and let you- my usually fashionably elite- readers decide. Why Did You Date Him: Eye of the Tiger

By |April 20th, 2010|Why Did You Date Him?|

kiks

Okay, so everyone is about SICK of hearing about Tiger and Jesse, but I’m going to go ahead and throw in my two cents.  I mean, why wouldn’t I? However, I’d like to focus more on the female side of things.

A lot of people have wondered how on Earth these ladies didn’t know there was something going on behind their backs. They’ve hypothesized that Elin must have known and was just hanging around for the $$. Cha-ching. The same can NOT obviously be said about Sandra though, seeing as she was the bread winner. So dub tee eff was going on?

Well, luckily (or unluckily), I have some perspective from both sides of things.  In one of my past relationships, my bf was unfortunately “stepping out” on me. I don’t know exactly what it was that gave me the inkling that he was doing so, but once I had that gut feeling, my anntenna was UP. Way up.  After finding some incriminating texts (more like sexts),  raunchy emails, and some retarded Tweets,  I knew I’d been right all along. Now, some may argue that I was digging for things, and while that may be true, the evidence was still there. Whether I had looked for it or not, he was still cheating on me. So, here’s the kicker… I stayed. Somehow, he was able to convince me that I had hallucinated the entire thing and none of it had really  happened. Dub tee eff was my problem? Well, I wanted to believe him. It was easier to stay and pretend things were okay than to acknowledge that I was on a one way flight to Bullshitville.

Eventually, events transpired that made it impossible for me to stay. I won’t go into detail, but let’s just say, I understand Elin and the golf clubs…

On the flipside, I have also been the girl that guys with girlfriends have pursued. I know, it’s horrible. While, I typically tried to keep things at arm’s length, the attention is flattering and that damn ITIS syndrome always seems to kick in. I had no real intentions of being with them, but it was fun for a laugh and to see how far you could get them to go. Ugh. I’m going to need to go do some Hail Mary’s shortly. I always thought to myself, “HOW does this chick not know her bf is such a scumbag?” Ironic, no? I do believe I was put in such situations to understand what had happened while I was being cheated on. I learned how freaking EASY it is for guys to cheat and understood the feeling of the “other woman.” I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m no Michelle McGee. My moral hiccups always seemed to kick in and I couldn’t go through with things, but had I been a different type of girl…

At the end of the day, I don’t think that either of these women was sticking around for money or perks. When you love someone, it is always hard to walk away from it, even when you know you need to. Just because they are in the public eye (now more than ever), doesn’t mean they aren’t real women with real feelings. Being cheated on is hurtful and embarrassing. I would NEVER wish the pain on someone else. Eventually it gets to the point where you have absolutely no choice but to get to steppin’ and never look back. My final advice? Homewreckers, keep it in your pants. You’re not that “special.” Victims of dbaggery? Run (don’t walk) at the first sign of scum. Dbags, the truth will always come out… eventually. Enjoy the ride while you can and hide all golf clubs and sharp objects. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
