Why Did You Wear That: Little in the Middle

By |September 12th, 2013|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

It is my belief that most women either love their torsos or love their legs and the alternate tends to be their trouble zone and bane of their existence- much like fitted sheets are to me.  Then I guess there are those handful of you bitches who can’t even comprehend what a “problem area” is.  I am not one of those, so read on and continue not hating me.  From the time I put on my first pair of tights for ballet class, I cursed my thighs.  I always longed for gazelle like legs, but instead was blessed with a set of sturdier stems.  A guy I was once dating nearly got clocked for calling them “healthy.”  Wrong answer, bro.

When the crop top came back in to heavy rotation this year, I really couldn’t have been more thrilled, unless someone told me there was a new way to make millions while simply drinking rosé and people watching.  You see, the chances of the crop top returning to relevance again and my being of age appropriateness overlapping are quite slim.  It’s kind of like a blue moon and I’m sure there’s some statistician out there who could calculate the odds, but I cried to my statistics professor to avoid failing, so I’m not your girl.  Point is: you give me an opportunity to wear a crop top, and I’m taking it.  Like here and here and, well, now here.

So, if you’re sick of seeing me in crop tops, blame Jenn Seracuse… and my parents.

Weekend Playlist: Guest DJ, Jenn Seracuse

Not to toot my own horn (but, beep beep), I get asked quite a bit about what my workout routine is.  No, kids, I can’t lie and just say I sit around eating whatever I want.  Past the age of 25, I actually had to become conscience of my body and only wish I’d started sooner.  I run three to four times a week, but my real secret weapon for long, lean, toned arms and legs and a flat stomach is Pilates.  Specifically, Flex Studios.  Very specifically, Jenn Seracuse.

I’d tried out a few different Pilates studios in New York after getting hooked when I lived in LA.  One class with Jenn at Flex and I needn’t look any further.  Jenn’s class is fun and upbeat without being annoyingly cheerleader peppy (I was a cheerleader, chill).  Beginner’s or first timers don’t fret.  Jenn must have eyes in the back of her head because she’s able to keep tabs on everyone in class providing gentle corrections to ensure you’re getting the most out of the session without breaking anything except a sweat.  One of the best parts of Jenn’s classes are her playlists.  As I’m sure anyone who works out can attest, music can make or break whether you struggle or stride through those last ten minutes.  So, this week, Jenn was kind enough to put together a playlist especially for WhyDid.com.  I, for one, can not wait to slip on my sneakers and feel the burn while listening.

To be honest, I was little nervous to share my secret because I may find myself on the waiting list for class more than I’d like, but come sweat with Jenn and me and be sure to follow her on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

Setting the Mood: New York, I Love You.

By |April 25th, 2013|Setting the Mood|

new york cityIt’s true.  I’m in love.  And this time I think it may actually work out.

That’s because I’ve fallen for the city where I live.  Now, I realize this probably doesn’t come as a surprise to some of you, but let’s not forget about that time I left New York for somewhere sunnier and, well, new.  You see, just like any relationship, the bond can either be broken or bolstered by a break.  For me, it has most certainly cemented my feelings for Manhattan.

It occurred to me while walking Smitty one morning (my most favorite part of the day, followed closely by Pilates) that my heart was full and it wasn’t thanks to some dapper dude.  Every neighborhood has something new to discover and so long as you keep your eyes peeled, you’ll notice something you’d never noticed before every single day.  Sometimes I try and put into words how magical this city is, but no one can truly understand it until they’ve been here, especially during those few weeks of spring before the city turns into an involuntary sauna.  People here say, wear, and do the strangest things.  I often just find myself smiling at the peculiar behavior and “devil may care” demeanor.  That is, of course, right before I flip out and reach into my expletive word bank.  And so, I’ve been keeping my camera handy, trying to capture the moments that capture me to share with you.

And just when you think it can’t get any more magical, the wind blows and petals sprinkle down on you like confetti.

Let’s never fight again.
