Setting the Mood: Check, Please!

By |September 17th, 2012|Setting the Mood|

flannel shirt editorialWhen you think of flannel, there are a few things that might come to mind:  90’s garage bands, Al Borland, lumberjacks, thick framed glasses sans lenses, Old Spice…  Anyone else getting turned on?  No?

And while I don’t need a man who borrows my beauty products, one thing I don’t mind sharing with my boyfriend is his shirts.  Thankfully, when it comes to flannel, bigger can be better.  The trend could possibly come across as a bit hipster ’cause as our new friend we picked up at Mas (you need to go eat there, by the by) said, “It’s always fall in Brooklyn.”  (He lives there- he’s allowed to say that), but when styled a la glamorous grunge, it is anything but Brooklyn (as seen here)– not that there is anything wrong with that.

So, put that PBR in a paper bag, lumberjack.  Flannel is back and not just for the Berenstain Bears.

Why Did You Wear That: Destination Unknown

By |July 14th, 2011|Why Did You Wear That?|

Today I was told to pack a suitcase.  No, not like the, “Get out of my house and get to steppin’ you, crazy bitch!” kind of suitcase.  More of the romantic surprise getaway and I’m not telling you wheeeeere suitcase.  See, tomorrow is my beloved and my anniversary.  I know.  I found myself a true Romeo (no, seriously, he’s a dream come true).  I have no idea where we’re headed, but wait til he gets a load of his gift.  (That’s what you get for marrying a writer, honey).  Anyway, I’m not that great at packing to begin with, so throwing me a curveball like this makes stuffing my suitcase that much more difficult.

Since I know you ladies are just as lovely, I don’t doubt that something like this will also happen to you.  So, to help you out, I’ve figured out how to pack for a destination unknown.  The key is versatility.  Pack things that can be both dressed up and dressed down.  Be sure to tuck a pair of flats (or comfortable shoes) along with some sexy stilettos in your bag.  To jazz up your daytime attire, be sure to bring your bling.  Accessories are crucial in taking any outfit from casual to cosmopolitan.

1. LNA Sunglasses, $195, 2. Michael Kors Leather Clutch, $395, 3. Diane von Furstenberg Camargue  20″ Rolling Duffle Bag, $200, 4. Eberjey Fairy Tales Teddy, $72, 5. Free People Polynesian Princess Romper, $118, 6. Cia.Maritima Leopard Print Top, $48 and Bottom, $68, 7. T-Bags Maxi Dress, $185, 8. Wyatt Heather Grey Cashmere Waterfall Cardigan, $169, 9. Amrita Singh Reversible Resin Necklace, $300, 10. Kenneth Jay Lane Satin Finish Bracelet, $150, 11. Co-Op Barney’s New York Flat Metallic Sandal, $330, 12. Bottega Veneta Strappy Wooden Sandal, $1,015

Don’t forget your sunglasses and something sexy.  No matter where you’re headed, just remember, you’re there to have fun and clearly your honey thinks you’re pretty spectacular already.

Why Did You Wear That: The Long and Short of It

By |November 9th, 2010|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

It’s getting cold out there and as  much as I love a teeny tiny skirt and boots, I’m really loving this maxi skirt trend that hit the runways.  Talk about an total alternative to leggings! Pull on a long skirt with a cute top or sweater (layer tights underneath for extra warmth) and you are not only looking totally in style and up to date, but also completely comfortable and chic. Some maxi skirts to try:

Richard Chai Love Tube Skirt, $265

I didn’t know if this day would ever come, but alas, it has. Crop tops are back with a vengeance. I was just recently making fun of a photo circa 2005 of me and two of my best gf’s wearing crop tops at Cain (above). Who knew five years later, I’d be cropping it up yet again… sans Cain.

I started seeing it here and there, but didn’t want to get too hopeful. I pride myself on having some fab abs, and good lord did I love a crop top back in the day. Well, guess what? It’s my lucky freaking day. Crop tops are everywhere and here are a few you can get your paws on right now:

**Warning: As I must always note, not every trend is for EVERYone. If you’ve got killer legs but a little bit of a spare tire around the belly, why not stick with shorts and leave the crop tops to the toned tummies?

Girl Crush: Lily Love

By |December 2nd, 2008|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

It would be easy to lump model Lily Donaldson in with the rest of the blondes out there with her Goldilocks looks, but she brings a little spice with her sugar…

She mixes her feminine polished looks with the edge of rocker chic. The mixture of the hard and soft really makes her stand out and gives her a unique style. It is sexy and sweet all in one.
