Beauty Buzz: Beauty Bamboozle

By |November 13th, 2013|Beauty Buzz|

fake eyelashesSociety basically demands perfection from women these days.  That’s a lot of pressure and I don’t know about you, but I don’t have time for all of that.  So in order to cut some corners and fake the beauty funk, there are a few tricks of the trade that will have you looking effortlessly beautiful in much less time, pain, and money than one might think.  Be a beauty magician and pull some tomfoolery on these fools.

  1. Bumble and bumble Spraychalk: Adding a pop of color to your coif became a whole lot easier with this spray on chalk.  You could always do it the old fashion way though…
  2. St. Tropez Tanning Essentials Kit: The best thing you can do for your skin is not fry it with UV rays.  This kit makes it possible to be sunkissed without wrinkling.
  3. Buxom Full-On Lip Cream: Rather than suffer through painful needles, pucker up with a lip plumping gloss first.
  4. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo: There’s a reason Brooke Shields and Cara Delevingne are beauty icons.  Those brows.  Fill yours in and transform your face.
  5. Color Wow Root Cover Up: Save time and cash by covering up unsightly roots with a temporary touch up ’til you can get to the salon.
  6. Sephora Collection Day, Night, and Glam Lash Set: Nothing adds drama like a pair of false lashes.  Be sure and watch this video pre-application so as to avoid any accidents.
  7. Sarah Chapman Skinesis FacialiftBefore going under the knife, try this at home tool that claims to sculpt facial contours, reduce puffiness, and even prevent jawline breakouts.
  8. Batiste Dry Shampoo: The best way to disguise an overdue blowout is with dry shampoo although there are a few other clever ways to disguise a bad hair day.

Abracadabra!

Why Did You Wear That: Fake It Til You Make It

By |November 12th, 2013|Why Did You Wear That?|

fur editorialFall is all about leather and fur (and a little bit of lace) and there are more than a few ways to achieve this luxe look.  But should you prefer to go faux, there are plenty of options out there that won’t leave you looking like a muppet.  Many designers have decided not to even dabble in the realm of authentic animal skins, most notably Stella McCartney.  Faux options have come a long way since the inception of pleather and plasticky fake furs and at times are almost indiscernible.  Faux and vegan furs and leathers are not only animal friendly, but much more cost efficient than their counterparts-  twice the incentive to fake the funk.

This is one instance when it’s fine with me to fake it.

Setting the Mood: Life in Plastic

By |November 11th, 2013|Setting the Mood|

In a world full of fakes, who needs any more plastic than what’s already out there?  There are very few things made of plastic that I can honestly endorse: Barbies, credit cards, Legos, and breasts.  Interestingly enough, it would appear that many designers have revisited this once shunned material in the form of accessories and outerwear.  This time around, wearing plastic and PVC look more sophisticated than the run of the mill Missy Elliot music video.  To add sheen to an otherwise casual outfit opt for plastic rather than pearls.

Why Did You Wear That: The Perfect Paradox

By |November 9th, 2013|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

kirsten smithIn sticking with this week’s theme of leather and lace, sugar and spice, sultry and sweet this outfit should provide some weekend outfit inspiration.  And wouldn’t you know, I’ve found yet another way to incorporate a crop top.  Sure it’s gotten quite a bit colder here in New York, but wearing a coat in transit makes showing a little skin entirely achievable.  Pairing a high waisted pencil skirt with a lacy top is a great way to show off your curves without having to pile yourself into some type of bandage contraption.  It’s classic, yet modern and most all body types can wear the look, crop top optional.

As I’ve mentioned, contradictions are my specialty.  Mixing something more tough with something seen as soft is the way to create drama (the only kind I’m into) without looking like you’re trying too hard or doing too much.  The skirt is actually something I’ve had for years- since I was a sophomore in highschool as a matter of fact.  Because a custom made leather dress seems totally normal for a 16 year old’s homecoming (photographic evidence here).  I held onto it knowing that while it may have been a bit ahead of my time as a teen, it would be a piece that would stand the test of time.  Worn with a cropped lace tee, black booties, and subtle accessories, it is the perfect paradox.

Friday Frocks: Lil Bit of This, Lil Bit of That

By |November 8th, 2013|Friday Frocks|

Every woman, no matter her age, lifestyle, or body type must own the perfect LBD.  At times, a simple black frock can seem a bit dull, but there are some easy ways to add interest to an otherwise standard staple.  To avoid falling flat, texture can be a crucial part of keeping your LBD from being run of the mill.  Leather, lace, or a combination of the two will take you from standard to standout.  In a classic shape or something more au courant, the basic little black dress has never looked better.
