Let’s play a little game of word association, shall we? When I say, “denim vest” what’s the first thing that pops into your pretty little head? I bet it was a mullet… namely in the form of Billy Ray Cyrus (you know, Miley’s dad). But forget hoe downs and achey breaky hearts, cause the denim vest is one of this summer’s hot ticket items. Friday Frocks: White Nights

We’ve passed that fashion milestone known as Memorial Day, which traditionally signals the ol’ “go ahead” for wearing white (we know that’s somewhat outdated, but in the off chance you’re a traditionalist…). The only time of year a little white dress can trump the little black dress, other than your wedding day or perhaps the Oscars, is from June until late August. So, get your faux glow on and slip into something lighter and whiter to create your own white night.

Friday Frocks: Wine and Dine

Seeing as weekends in the fall are meant for meeting a man to keep you warm all winter, you’re going to need a fresh frock to welcome in the “cuffing” season. Sure, we all have the classic LBD, but what about something a little warmer? Something in this season’s most coveted color, perhaps? That’s right, I’m talking about switching your shade like you’re switching from rose to pinot noir. The great thing about fall’s oxblood/burgundy/whatever you’ve decided to call it color is that it’s so very flattering on skin tones from porcelain to caramel to mocha- just like this particular Helmut Lang frock I’ve been lusting after every single time I pass the Intermix on my corner. Friday Frocks: Something’s Off… White

Remember the silly little antiquated rule about not wearing white before Memorial Day? Well, I’m fairly certain once that pesky groundhog gives the go ahead, it’s fair game. Still not sure if it’s too soon? Okay, fine. So you haven’t headed out to the Hamptons yet and the rose has yet to be put on ice and your skin may or may not still resemble a reel of paper. Got it. Until then, why not muster up the courage in a shade slightly less stark than pure white? Slipping into something cream, eggshell, bone, whatever you want to call it, is a great way to transition into summer without looking totally overzealous. Plus, to be quite honest, it’s much more flattering on 90% of all skin tones.

Friday Frocks: Lots o’ Dots

Polka dots may automatically elicit thoughts of sweet baby dalmatians and Minnie Mouse, but this prissy pattern can be much more sophisticated when paired with modern accessories or worn in an unexpected shape. Dots don’t have to be in the typical black and white variation, but if you do choose to go the traditional route, now is the perfect opportunity to incorporate a punch of neon with your accessories. Though dots do seem straightforward, look for them in different colors, fabrics, and dimensions to make them all your own.
