Why Did You Wear That: Fall Overhaul

By |September 24th, 2013|Why Did You Wear That?|

September 22nd marked the first day of fall (and also my dad’s and beloved pooch’s birthdays).  Now you can officially start complaining about the end of summer… not that you haven’t been doing so since Labor Day and the end of your summer share.  I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I actually find fall to be a little bit magical.  It’s nice to have everyone back in the city.  Sidewalks are full of brunchers on the weekends soaking in the last bits of tolerable temperatures.  There seems to be a tinge of excitement in the crisp air.  For what- I’m not quite sure… can’t possibly be the impending arctic winter.  And while I do love a teeny bikini, I’ve always preferred dressing for fall.  Layering cashmere, leather, boots, and coats may seem daunting to some though.  So, I’ve put together ten fall trends that will help you start your shopping list and soften the shift from summer to fall.

Why Did You Wear That: Don’t Sweat the Technique

By |August 27th, 2013|Why Did You Wear That?|

The quote above from Karl Lagerfeld has been passed around the internet faster than an Anthony Weiner dick pic. And while I first snickered when I saw it, I couldn’t help but wonder what Karl might think about one of this fall’s must have items: the sweatshirt.

I can just picture him fanning himself with leather glove clad hand whilst flipping through September’s issues. But put down the paper bag, big K. These aren’t the Champion sweatshirts of gym class past. Nor are they the Juicy Couture velour tracksuits that I was certain were the fashion apocalypse. This season’s reincarnations feature more structured silhouettes, lace insets, and little details that will have you sweating them, not sweating in them.

When worn with the skinniest of skinny jeans, leather leggings, or a pleated skirt rather than their fleeced counterparts, the sweatshirt is more fabulous than frumpy.

1. T by Alexander Wang Crew Neck Sweatshirt, 2. Helmut Lang Leather and Wool Sweatshirt, 3. By Chance Jenna Oversized Sweatshirt, 4. A.P.C. Atelier de Production et Création, 5. Chaser Nat Geo Logo Sweatshirt, 6. Kenzo Striped Lining Cotton Sweatshirt, 7. Wildfox Basic Baggy Beach Sweatshirt, 8.Theory Janelo Long Sweatshirt, 9. Funktional Discovery Sweatshirt

Would You Wednesday: Barely There Britches

By |May 8th, 2013|Why Did or Why Don't?|

celebrity sheer chiffon pantsFirst it was the see through skirt.  Now it would appear that the sheer madness has spread right on over to pants.  Celebrities have been seen sporting the look from the red carpet to the courtroom.  I’m undecided on the idea as I can see it coming off as quite airy and fun for summer and a great alternative to the maxi skirt, but seeing Lindsay Lohan and Ke$ha trying out the trend makes me want to call the whole thing off.

1. Helmut Lang Mandala Print Pants, 2. L*Space Coachella Pants, 3. Forever21 Leopard Print Chiffon Pants, 4. Emilio Pucci Paneled Wide Leg Pants,, 5. Vince Sheer Slim Pants, 6. Stella McCartney Embroidered Organza Pants, 7. Enzo Costa Chiffon Zip Pants, 8. Wes Gordon Ghost Pants

Friday Frocks: Wine and Dine

By |September 14th, 2012|Friday Frocks|

wine and dineSeeing as weekends in the fall are meant for meeting a man to keep you warm all winter, you’re going to need a fresh frock to welcome in the “cuffing” season.  Sure, we all have the classic LBD, but what about something a little warmer?  Something in this season’s most coveted color, perhaps?  That’s right, I’m talking about switching your shade like you’re switching from rose to pinot noir.  The great thing about fall’s oxblood/burgundy/whatever you’ve decided to call it color is that it’s so very flattering on skin tones from porcelain to caramel to mocha- just like this particular Helmut Lang frock I’ve been lusting after every single time I pass the Intermix on my corner.  So, embrace it ladies, these wine hued frocks are sure to get you wined, dined, and warm all winter.

Setting the Mood: The End Is Near

By |August 21st, 2012|Setting the Mood|

end of summerIt’s happening.  That subtle cooling of the summer air.  When I went to take Smitty out to stretch his morning legs the other day, there was a distinct difference in the breeze.  Gone was the suffocating stuffiness.  Instead I was greeted with a slightly chilled end of summer climate.  This only means one thing: fall is fast approaching.  So enjoy the last few weeks of strappy sundresses, easy espadrilles, and nearly nonexistent shorts, because very soon, we’ll be bundled up and longing for those steamy summer afternoons.
