I love, love, love M.I.A.’s new video for xxxo. I mean, the entire thing is aesthetically pleasing, but I can’t decide if it’s how amazing she looks. the swans, leopards, or the UNICORNS. Whatever the fact may be, I like that director Hype Williams took a different approach on a music video. It’s kind of poking fun at itself… and who doesn’t like that?
Wanna recreate M.I.A.’s look?

These Boots Were Made For…
(2)I’m really feeling for shit kicking boots right now. Maybe it’s because I just saw a man flip out and throw something at a pizza place and feel the need to toughen up my look. Whatever the case may be, I love them paired with denim shorts and an oversized v-neck or a flirty floral dress. Here are some of my favorites:
Harley Davidson Auburn Motorcycle Boot, $140.95
Skechers Studded Lace Up Boot, $130
Frye Jackson Harness Boot, $268
Seven For All Mankind Olivia Lace Up Flat Boots, $395

Waisting Away
(1)
When I’m already fifteen minutes late and still staring blankly into my closet, I pull out my “go to” secret weapon- the body-con dress. Simple as it may be, when styled correctly and I haven’t just ingested a 2lb steak, the body-con dress is a surefire hit. A good body-con dress will hug you in all the right places without being overtly sexy. Meaning, you don’t need to be showing off all the goods (T & A) with a neckline down to your belly button and and a skirt up to your toned tushy.Sometimes what isn’t showing is sexier than showing Victoria’s Secret amounts of skin. Wearing something that emphasizes your curves gives you the whole “hourglass” thing. Trust me ladies, there’s nothing sexier than showing off that little waist and your child bearing hips. It is scientifically proven that the hip to waist ratio is considered “attractive” to the opposite sex. The “ideal” hip to waist ratio for women is .7. Ask my best guy friend, Matty, who has been trying to convince me of this for years.
So, here are some great options if you want to test out this scientific theory:
T Alexander Wang Stretch Tee Dress, $105
American Apparel Double U-Neck Long Sleeve Minidress, $38
BCBGMAXAZRIA Knit Mini Dress, $298
Forever21 Ruched One Shoulder Dress, $22.80
Erin Wasson X RVCA Soul Clappin Dress, $112
French Connection Myla Dress, $158Here’s how I wore mine Friday night (obv, still without an intern):

Don’t forget to invest in the proper undergarments for this body skimming silhouette. Now, if your tummy isn’t as toned as you’d like, don’t fret my pet! There’s always Spanx to suck you in and play a little trompe l’oeil. Because it’s never been “hip” to be square.

Skirting the Issue
(1)Oh, hey Spring. Thanks for joining us. As we saw the temperatures rise last week, the hemlines rose as well. My favorite look I saw the beautiful girls of New York sporting was flirty floral tiered skirts. It was feminine and sexy without being over the top. I’d like to think that this would be a hit with the fellas (what do you think, guys? love it?). Anyway, I have, again, scoured the internet for some of the best of the best so you too can skirt around town:
Free People Tea Party Skirt, $58
Forever21 Zip Front Striped Skirt, $14.80
Nanette Lepore Floral Flutter Skirt, $298
Delia’s Ivette floral Print Skirt, $39.50
Charlotte Russe Painterly Tiered Skirt, $22
Free People Tiny Dancer Skirt, $88Here’s how I dressed it down:

And dressed it up:

Clearly, I’m going to need to get an intern solely responsible for taking photos and Flip camming everything. (Any takers?). Anyway, as soon as this random cold spell decides to take a hike, hopefully I’ll see lots of pretty girls wearing pretty floral skirts.

Get it Shorty
(0)
I mean, it may have something to do with how liberating it was to have my own personal pants off dance of this past Saturday (read: I ditched my skinnies and skirts for some tiny shorts), but I’m really feeling for short shorts right now. Therefore, I’ve compiled some of my favorites that you can buy RIGHT now!
La Rok Power Strutter Shorts, $168
Blank Denim Patchwork Short, $68
Forever 21 Fab Abstract Shorts, $11.50
American Apparel High Waisted Denim Shorts, $35
Free People Ruffled Tap Pant, $68
Motel High Waisted Floral Shorts, $50.73
Mason by Michelle Mason Full Shorts, $178
Forever 21 Floral Denim Shorts, $18.90
Paige Premium Denim Mariposa Shorts, $139
Dress them up. Dress them down. Shorts can easily transition from day to night simply by switching out your flats for sky high heels and adding some accessories. Dresses are sweet, skirts are pretty, but shorts are sexy and fun.
**Warning: remember that not every trend is for everyONE. I would probably steer clear of the short shorts after 35. It really isn’t age appropriate. Also, if you haven’t seen the inside of the gym in quite some time, probably not for you either. No reason to subject us to your juicy jiggles.

Save or Splurge?
(0)
Due to the current tough economic times, it seems like everyone is cutting back here and there in order to save some cash. (Especially after all of the holiday shopping- not even the ridiculous sales helped!) However, there are a few things that I am just not willing to give up. Below are some items worth the splurge and some others that you can probably skip.
Worth the splurge:
- Skincare- You only have one face. I’m not saying go out and buy hundreds of dollars worth of La Mer, but if you have a skincare routine that is working for you, stick with it! I’m a big fan of Clarins and Elemis. Neither one is cheap, but youthful skin is totally worth it.
- Jeans- Finding the right pair of jeans is SO impossible, it’s like finding a needle in a haystack. There are so many different brands out there it can literally take an entire day of shopping to find the brand that suits your body type. I figure that you can wear your jeans in a multitude of ways so they are worth every penny. Granted, you can get great jeans for less than $200. I have a friend who looks amazing in her American Apparel colored jeans… but I think that has something to do with her ridiculous body.
- Your hair- I would NEVER skimp on good hair. I have had WAY too many tragedies to risk it. I have been going to the same woman since I moved to NY and she’s amazing. She’s not in some fancy salon, but she is pricey (not going to reveal who it is as I like being able to get an appointment). If you’re not willing to risk having to wear a hat for the next month until your bad cut grows out, I would stick with your tried and true.
Some things I’d probably skip:
- $5 coffee- The guy in the cart is only $1.50. Tastes the same to me!
- Eating out/ordering in every single night- This gets pricey. Go online and find recipes for your favorite meals. I am no Martha Stewart, but I can cook a mean stuffed zucchini. Bonus: This also gives you leftovers for lunch. Just a thought.
- Fashion tops- Sure, that Alice and Olivia shirt is cute, but I’m going to bet you can find something similar at Forever 21. (That’s why they got sued by LAMB and DVF). If you think about how many times you will wear the shirt (in comparison to the billion times you’ll wear your jeans) is it really worth the price tag? Stock your closet with quality basics and fill in with fun and less expensive fashion pieces.
