Why Did You Wear That: One Dress, Three Ways (Rated G)

By |February 11th, 2014|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

Screen shot 2014-02-11 at 10.50.28 AMI love an occasion that calls for dressing up.  Any occasion really.  Holidays, black ties, brit malahs.  So, when my birthday rolled around I knew the dress I’d been eyeing since Christmas must be mine.  But just like my New Year’s outfit, I wanted to find more than one way to wear this frock.  To the untrained eye, one might see it as a one hit wonder, but because it was literally just lace sans lining, I found more than a few ways to style it from fairly modest to leaving just a little to the imagination.  And it’s a good thing because once my friends who had planned my party finally revealed the evening’s location, I made a quick wardrobe change.  This was not the dress for dodging ninjas (don’t ask).  For this version (rated G), I slid into a black sleeveless catsuit, camel coat, and black booties for a look that I think could be considered boho casual… but my version of casual could also be considered some’s black tie optional.

Friday Frocks: Skating Right Along

By |January 10th, 2014|Friday Frocks|

ice princessOnly thing a true ice princess needs this winter more than a whimsical skater skirt is a flirty, flippy, skater frock – just ask Michelle Trachtenberg.  This silhouette is especially kind to those who have trim waists but may view their thighs as the type that are thunderous.  It’s also great for someone who’s a bit more straight up and down and looking to add a little volume to her svelte shape.  If you fear this looking too feminine much like Michelle and myself, layer a tough leather jacket on top and slip into a pair of rugged moto boots.  Another option for styling a skater dress is wearing it over a turtleneck or long sleeve tee to give it a 90’s “jumper” look for the winter months.

Friday Frocks: Good LRD (Little Red Dress)

By |December 13th, 2013|Friday Frocks|

valentino redSince most people wouldn’t consider black and white really “colors” per se, I guess I would venture to call red my favorite color- along with ballet pink and sometimes a frosty violet.  That said, there is no better time of year to slip into a crimson creation and strut your stuff all over town… or at least every holiday party where your ex and his new (definitely not as cute or sophisticated as you) arm candy may potentially be this season.  We’ve all (hopefully) secured a LBD and perhaps even LWD, but now it’s time to kick things up a notch in a LRD.  From fire engine red to oxblood to shades of tomato, there is sure to be a LRD that will suit everyone whether porcelain blonde or exotic brunette.  Take your pick.

Friday Frocks: Take the Plunge

By |November 11th, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

Alright, so the chances of taking a swan dive into clear blue waters at this time of year are probably slim to none for most of us… but that doesn’t mean you can’t take the plunge this fall.  Step away from the high dive and step over to your closet.  A deep v neckline is one heck of a way to make an entrance into any holiday party.  Just don’t forget your double sided tape!
