Setting the Mood: Falling for You

By |September 15th, 2014|Setting the Mood|

fasll fashion editorial 2014In one week, it will officially be autumn… as well as two of my favorite men’s birthday.  Technically, it’s still summer, but the weather has taken a turn and the inevitable chill is in the air.  As a matter of fact, as I type this with my window cracked, I can actually smell what epitomizes fall to me.  When it’s not the skin melting heat of summer or the bone chilling frost of winter, the weather in Manhattan is nothing short of magical.  Spring and fall, while both way too short, are reminders to residents as to why we tolerate exorbitant rent, public urination, and unreliable transportation.  Start stashing your swimsuits and pull out your sweaters from the bins under your bed.  Enjoy the brief pause that is fall and brace yourselves for what the Farmer’s Almanac is predicting to be one wild winter.

Why Did You Wear That: Fresh Coat

By |October 22nd, 2013|Why Did You Wear That?|

coatsThe only item more clutch to one’s closet than the perfect fall boots is the perfect fall coat.  Growing up in Florida, I was unfamiliar with inclement winter weather.  Boy, was I in for a rude awakening during my first northeastern snow storm.  This was when I took a crash course in dressing for the elements.  Never again would I be chilled to the bone without the appropriate outerwear.  Someone wise once told me that if you have a nice coat, nice bag, and nice shoes during the winter, it doesn’t really matter whether you’re wearing sweats underneath– no one will even see them.  I’m not encouraging that, but I certainly wouldn’t shame you for running to Starbucks in your jammies so long as you cover them accordingly.  While you should have one go to coat to cover all occasions, you’re going to need a couple more to fill in the wardrobe gaps.  Below are some essential styles that will keep you warm and looking cool.

Why Did You Wear That: Breathe and Reboot

By |October 1st, 2013|Why Did You Wear That?|

The best part of fall?  No, not pumpkin spice lattes (can we cool it with that, by the way?).  Buying boots is by far my favorite part of fall and its fashion.  The staple of the fall closet is always footwear.  No matter what you’ve got on, if you don’t have the right shoes to seal the deal, you’re essentially screwed.  Another great thing about closed toe shoes is spending less time and money on pricey pedicures-not that it’s okay to forgo them entirely.  Speaking of which…

To make your lives easier– that’s what I’m here for, afterall– I’ve compiled the best boots in every category and how to style them for any occasion.  You don’t have to thank me now, but I certainly won’t stop you from sending Céline in gratitude.

Setting the Mood: September Issues

By |August 19th, 2013|Setting the Mood|

september issuesPride cometh before a fall… and so does summer.  About a week ago, the weather started to change.  There was a slight shift in the air and in that moment, I knew:  fall was fast approaching. Sure, I’ve worked hard so as to be able to wear the least amount of clothing possible without offending anyone’s eyeballs, but I do love nothing more than a cozy cashmere scarf, slouchy suede boots, and slipping into a warm wool coat.  The fall brings with it thoughts of coupling up, nights by the fireplace, and the return of everyone back to the city after a summer in the Hamptons.  Tans start to fade, rooftops close, and pedicures become less necessary, but there is something magical in the autumn air.
