Beauty Buzz: You’re Doing It Wrong
Written by: admin | Beauty Buzz

putting on makeupIt’s very, very easy to get stuck in your very own beauty rut.  We’ve learned to do things a certain way and tend to stick to what’s worked for us.  However, you might have grown a bit too accustomed to your regular regimen.  Here are five ways to shake things up and get more out of your beauty routine:

  1. Get dirty.  Here’s a secret:  I only wash my hair twice a week.  Gross?  Meh.  Let’s consider it water conservation.  I have about two feet of hair and it’s a bit on the dry side.  Not to mention, blowing out my naturally wavy locks, puts a lot of stress on my tresses.  Dry shampoo and perfecting the art of a top knot, allow for extra time between washes.  Give your hair a break and let your body’s own natural oil seep in and condition your hair.
  2. Eyes first.  We’ve been taught to paint on our pretty faces by starting with foundation and finishing with our eyes.  Well, here’s the thing: when you finally do reach the grand finale smokey eye, you’re pretty likely to ruin the perfect palette you created in the first place with flecks of shadow and liner smudging your face.  Why not try starting your eyes and then completing the look by smoothing off any mess with your foundation, bronzer, and blush?
  3. Brush it off.  Before even stepping foot into the shower, you should use a dry brush to exfoliate your skin.  This will not only deflake any and all tired summer skin, but it also increases circulation which aids in the fight against cellulite.  Two birds, one brush. (Try this one from Elemis).
  4. Don’t brush it out.  So, pretty much the only time I ever brush my  hair is right before I wash it (which I’ve mentioned only happens twice a week).  I brush to get all the tangles out pre-sudsing and then use a comb to release any new snags post conditioning.  Marcia Brady was wrong:  you absolutely can overdo it with the brushing.
  5. Crank it up.  When flat ironing your hair, it’s actually better to turn the heat all the way up and make one pass down your tresses than to use moderate heat and go over and over and over… your hair.

See what a little bit of backwards thinking can do?

Beauty Buzz: Girl’s Best Friend, Part Deux
Written by: WhyDid | Beauty Buzz

I have talked about my love for dry shampoo before, but some of my brunette beauties pointed out that the dry shampoo powders left their hair looking a little grey and dusty.

So I have discovered another magical product that will cure this problem. KMS Hairplay Makeover Spray.  It is a spray rather than a powder and it is clear.  It’s made with rice powder which absorbs the extra oil in your hair and it gives hair a boost of volume.  So there you have it, no more bad hair days.

Pull it Together!
Written by: WhyDid | Daily Rant,Uncategorized

subway

I know it’s Mondays and Mondays suck. We all hate them. Just ask my dog, he probably hates them more than anyone.

On the train this morning I happened to notice in my zombie-like state that some people just really need to pull it together.  I try to think my happy thoughts– but when I see girls with full on bed head with visible back of head cowlick, I don’t feel happy.  Have I taught you nothing about dry shampoo?

Listen, I pressed the snooze button 3 times today.  I am not psyched about getting up on Mondays either, but I manage to look like I actually care.  I don’t look dirty or smelly. I have on lip gloss. I took a shower. My clothes match.  If you have to wear your sunglasses on the train (which, mind you is underground) you have bigger issues.  Invest in some good eye cream.

Just try and not look so miserable on Mondays. You will feel the way you look. Slap on some lipgloss and mascara.  And while your at it, a spritz of perfume couldn’t hurt.

Beauty Buzz: Girl’s Best Friend
Written by: WhyDid | Beauty Buzz

Forget diamonds, Oscar Blandi’s Pronto Dry Shampoo is a girl’s best friend.  I truly swear by this product.  I run in the morning and sometimes I just do NOT have time to re-blow out my  hair at 7:30am. So instead, I use Oscar Blandi’s Pronto Dry Shampoo. Not only does it smell amazing, it gets rid of any greasy looking pieces AND… the best part adds serious volume.  No joke, a girl I work with just commented on what great hair I have (ha! little does she know!).

I have heard of using baby powder, but a) I DETEST the smell of baby powder (I know, really maternal of me), and b) you will end up looking like George Washington in a powdered wig. So just trust me on this one. “You’re welcome” in advance.

Available at Sephora for $19. It is absolutely totally worth it, trust me!
