Why Did You Wear That: Denim Deviation

By |November 12th, 2015|Why Did You Wear That?|

button down denim skirtYou may have had to put your denim cutoffs and high waisted summer shorts in storage for the next seven months in favor of more seasonably appropriate options, but jeans are not the only way to wear denim this fall (and even winter).  For years, the leather skirt has been a favorite and it’s still not going anywhere, but another option for showing of your still taught thighs- we’re pre-Thanksgiving, afterall- is with the must have skirt of the season- the button down denim A-line mini.  A universally flattering silhouette, this shape looks best with a top tucked in to emphasis your waist (or dare I suggest a cropped turtleneck) and knee or thigh high boots.  While it certainly can be dressed up, I would still consider this more of a downtown staple for fall.  Perfect for a lazy Saturday stroll or a casual date night, there are options in every wash and every price point.

Setting the Mood: Double Up On Denim

By |November 26th, 2014|Setting the Mood|

denim on denim fashion editorialIf you live in America, you own a pair of jeans.  For whatever reason, this time of year feels very “Americana” to me.  The only thing I own more of than crop tops is denim.  Once I found a brand and style I liked, I bought it in every available color and/or pattern.  When it comes to cold weather, I start at the bottom (much like Drake), as in my jeans and then build my outfit around them.  This is why I often complain to my friends about having no tops.  But that is neither here nor there, as let’s talk about you and your denim needs.  Whether it’s the perfect pair of jeans, a chambray shirt, or a beaten up jean jacket, be sure to slip into something that feels more American than apple pie.

Setting the Mood: How Very American

By |April 21st, 2014|Setting the Mood|

denim day fashion editorialThere is nothing more American other than maybe our flag, apple pie, or childhood obesity than denim.  A long time fashion staple that started off as casual and has since gone couture, every man, woman, child, and sometimes dog has and should own a pair of well fitted jeans.  Beyond being a closet staple, April 23, 2014 marks this year’s Denim Day (so be sure to slip into your favorite pair to show your support).  I had never actually heard of this event until this year, but I most certainly will be taking part- because standing up for what you believe is also very American.  So, with that said, this week will be dedicated strictly to denim.

Why Did You Wear That: Hot Pants

By |March 22nd, 2011|Why Did You Wear That?|

Another trend from the oh so styling 70’s are the infamous hotpants.  While the originals are hardly suitable for public viewing, I’ve interpreted them into my own fashion.  I love denim, but how many different washes and cuts can you have before growing bored?  By adding some color to your denim game you can really switch things up.  Now your bottom isn’t the “neutral” and you’ve added an instant pop to any outfit.

Add a floral patterned top or a sheer neutral blouse to your “hot pants” to balance the bold.  A pair of strappy neutral or metallic high heeled (platform) sandals will finish off your look and have you doing the hustle in no time.
