Friday Frocks: Festival Friendly

By |April 11th, 2014|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

gypsyThe dress code at Coachella is basically the opposite of the Meatpacking District on a Saturday night.  That’s right, ladies.  Leave your skin tight bandage dresses in the closet… better yet your donation pile.  For an outdoor music festival it’s best to be in something loose and free flowing- something that doesn’t require platform pumps as an accessory.  Why not opt for a frock sure to set your gypsy soul free, even if you aren’t hanging in the desert this weekend.

Why Did You Wear That: No-chella

kirsten smith coachellaIf you live in New York you are in one of two camps: the ones who boarded Palm Springs bound planes for a wild weekend at Coachella or the rest of us who plan to stay put and enjoy the little bit of sunshine that’s finally been bestowed upon us.  I fall into the second camp and am pretty okay with that.  As mentioned, as much as I love a live show, being part of a commercialized and overcrowded concert series gives me the heebie jeebies.  I do, however, love the opportunity to tap into my inner flower child from time to time and fortunately, my mom was smart enough to hold onto a few of her favorite pieces and pass them along to me.  Smart and pretty.

Setting the Mood: Musical Chairs

By |April 7th, 2014|Setting the Mood|

coachella-fashionIn case your Instagram, Facebook or group chat has not yet been inundated with updates regarding the southern California music festival known as Coachella, brace yourselves… because from Thursday on, you will see nothing but one post after the next regarding this outdoor bohemian booze fest.  While it seems feelings are mixed in my social circle, one Bullett writer has some pretty strong feelings about the festival and I can’t say I totally disagree.  There’s a reason I’ve never actually accepted casual invitations to attend.  I have a hard enough time watching panhandlers perform in an overcrowded subway car.  Spending several days sweating in the desert with 90,000 other overly dehydrated, underdeodorized strangers is a variation of my own personal hell.

I’d need a heavy dosage of CBD oil for anxiety to keep my anxiety at bay, but if attending a more commercialized Woodstock is your cup of kombucha, you’re going to need to get music fest ready.  The only thing more important than securing somewhere to shower other than the community bathrooms and scoring invites to all of the VIP pool parties is packing just the right pieces to have you looking carefree but not costumed.

Weekened Playlist: From the Safety of your Couch-ella

By |April 13th, 2013|Weekend Playlist|

So you couldn’t get tickets, you couldn’t make the trek, you just couldn’t be bothered fighting the crowds.  Whatever the case may be, you’re not at Coachella this weekend.  Wah, wah. Doesn’t mean you can’t listen to the same music that’s pumping through the desert.  And lucky for you, you can listen to it from the safety of your couch, bypassing the Port-o-potties and pot.  So, get out your glowsticks, flower crowns, and PBR ’cause I’ve compiled a playlist of some of my favorite artists hitting the stage.

Friday Frocks: Festival Ready

By |April 12th, 2013|Friday Frocks|

bohemianWhether you’re planning on getting down and dirty at a music festival or just bopping around town running errands this weekend, there is no better time than now to channel your inner Stevie Nicks.  You know she’s been itching to get out.  The look is effortlessly feminine with just a little bit of edge.  Take it easy with the footwear, opting for flat sandals or suede booties and leave hair loose and tousled.  Layer long necklaces and don’t be afraid to load on the bangles.
