Why Did You Wear That: You’ve Got Sole

By |March 1st, 2011|Why Did You Wear That?|

One of the most talked about moments from this past weekend’s Academy Awards show was not a musical number, not a gorgeous gown, not a misplaced expletive… it was Anne Hathaway’s Swarovski crystal encrusted Brian Atwood pumps worn with her Lanvin tuxedo.  Twitter exploded with “who made Anne’s shoes?” and “I’ve got to get my hands on those pumps.”  Certainly a victory for both Mr. Atwood, himself, as well as Anne’s stylist, Ms. Rachel Zoe.

For quite a while, the go to glamour girl pump was Christian Louboutin, but it looks like there’s a new “it” shoe in town.  Basically, if you’ve heard of the actress, she’s worn the shoe.  Everyone from Blake Lively to Cameron Diaz to Dianne Kruger has been spotted strutting her stuff in these sexy stilettos.

So has Hollywood traded in the flash of a red sole for the styling and simplicity of just a great shoe?

Sole long!

Monday Mashup: XOXO

By |February 22nd, 2011|Monday Mashup|

Hey Upper East Siders, this just in.  S may very well have her own doppelganger.  Seems a certain Aussie actress looks awfully similar to our sweet Serena especially when they strike this “over the shoulder” pose in slinky LBD’s.  With the same golden locks, perfectly peachy skin, and ould Teresa Palmer be voted next year’s sexiest woman alive? You be the judge.

Why Did You Wear That: A Touch of Turquoise

By |February 1st, 2011|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

Seems that the stars of Hollywood have a new best friend.  Recent red carpets reveal that the gals are trading in their diamonds for a much more colorful stone in their accessories.  The first notable turquoise appearance was on Blake Lively when she wore it to the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures Awards Gala back in January.  The pop of unexpected color works especially well with jewel tones, crisp whites, and warm citrus hues.  So next time your ensemble seems a bit lackluster, why not add some color with a touch of turquoise.

L to R: Max and Chloe Primadina Turquoise Single Ring, $220, Lauren by Ralph Lauren Turquoise Teardrop Necklace, $78, Kenneth Jay Lane Cabochon Bangle, $150, Ippolita Rock Candy Drop Earrings, $850

Why Did You Wear That: This Week’s Top 5 Looks

By |December 4th, 2010|Celebrity Style|

I struggled a bit this week trying to round up the best of the best in Hollywood. Probably has a lot to do with the overwhelming trend of black lace LBD’s. Everyone from Taylor Swift to Kylie Minogue was spotted in one. So, I finally found five lovely ladies deserving of this week’s best dressed list.

  1. Carrie Underwood in Jenny Packham for the CMA Artists of the Year Celebration. I wasn’t surprised I liked this look as soon as I saw it was Jenny Packham.
  2. Blake Lively at Footwear News Achievement Awards wearing Prabal Gurung and Christian Louboutin shoes (of course). Does she ever look bad?
  3. Reese Witherspoon in a Dolce & Gabbana dress and Jimmy Choo shoes while revealing her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Looking as American as apple pie.
  4. Fergie wearing a hot pink D&G blazer and Helmut Lang leather pants at the launch of Avon Voices.  Hey, at least her outfit is better behaved than her husband…
  5. Most improved award goes to Katy Perry wearing Georges Chakra with Brian Atwood heels at the Grammy Nominations Concert.  Yay! Katie is wearing her grown up outfit!

Beauty Buzz: Clawing Her Way to the Top

By |November 19th, 2009|Beauty Buzz|

I was literally JUST discussing acrylic nails with my  manicurist while he lacquered me up with Butter’s La Moss as I lounged at my very favorite hangout, Ryan Darius Salon. (Seriously, I’m concerned they are going to either start charging me rent or put me to work shampooing!)

We were laughing about airbrushed tips and butterfly nail art and the next thing you know, as I’m catching up on the TV that I missed for various reasons, I see THIS:

1117-blake_lively_nails_zoom_bdReally? Really, Serena? Are we doing this? You’re one PATH ride, an airbrushed kitty, and a couple of rhinestones away from belonging in a different state (Jersey, anyone?) I’m sure there is a perfectly good explanation for this oversight in styling.  I’ll be patiently awaiting this explanation.

Thanks.

P.S. you almost, ALMOST killed Gaga’s appearance for me.
