Look for Less: Wrap It Up

By |October 9th, 2011|Look for Less, Why Did You Wear That?|

A couple of weeks ago, a friend sent me a message asking if it was, in fact, too soon to break out the winter scarf.  Now, I’m a big fan of scarves, so my answer?  “It’s really never too soon for a scarf.”  Granted, you may look a little ridiculous when pairing a heavy winter weight scarf with a tank top and flip flops, but tucking a scarf in/on your bag for an evening out is always a great idea.  There’s been quite a few instances where I’ve been caught off guard by a sudden nip in the air and felt lucky that I had a sunggly scarf to wrap around me.  Now that it’s officially fall, scarves are fair game.  So, let’s see how some of Hollywood’s stylish startlets are sporting their scarves:

1. Bajra Ombre Wool Scarf, $159, 2. La Garconne No. 6 Blanket Boot, $390, 3. Levi’s Military Jacket, $64, 4. Wet Seal Fashionista Skinny Jean, $19.50

1. River Island Loose Knit Snood, $26.19, 2. Elie Tahari Vanessa Draped Jacket, $276, 3. bebe Cold Shoulder Bodycon Pencil Dress, $69, 4. Giuseppe Zanotti Snake Print T-Strap, $595

1. Amicale Griffin Cashmere-Silk Fringed Scarf, $53, 2. Hard Tail Slouchy T-shirt, $49, 3. Fossil Carson Flap Crossbody, $118, 4. Forever 21 Magnified Readers, $6.80, 5. Free People High Waist Flare Jeans, $108

Snug as a bug in a rug.

Friday Frocks: Falling for You

By |September 23rd, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

It’s official.  It’s fall.  You’ve had your Pumpkin Spice latte.  You’ve put that damn wreath on your door (why did you do that?).  Now, it’s time to start dressing the part.  I love summer clothes, but I really adore a cozy fall wardrobe.  A great fall dress can transition you from the first falling leaf, the to first falling snowflake.  Early in the season, wear your fall frocks with boots/booties and a light jacket.  When the thermostat dips, layer tights, a scarf and a heavier jacket to keep you warm and stylish.

1. Sonia Rykiel Argyle Sweater Dress, $2,195, 2. Mini for Many Tin Knit Dress, $179.55, 3. MaxMara Oversized Sweater Dress, $350, 4. Torn by Ronny Kobo Mila Rouched Croc Dress, $338, 5. Oonagh by Nanette Lepore Jeremy Dress, $268, 6. L.A.M.B. Navajo Sweater Dress, $330, 7.Vanessa Bruno Athe Mohair Fair Isle Dress, $450, 8. Isabel Marant Tevai Metallic Fine Knit Dress, $490, 9. bebe Variegated Striped Lurex Dress, $98, 10. Forever21 Retro Houndstooth Dress, $19.80

Girl Crush: Channeling Fran, the Flashy Girl from Flushing

By |March 29th, 2011|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

As previously stated, I’m a big fan of “classic” (um, is the 90’s now classic?) television.  One of my favorites is none other than The Nanny starring nasal voiced Fran Drescher.  While on the show she is portrayed as a tacky Jewish girl from Queens, if you look at Fran’s wardrobe, she’s really a trendsetter.  Don’t believe me?  Let’s just take a gander at the spring trends she’s sporting in the photos above:

  • Crop top. Check.
  • Florals. Check.
  • Animal Print. Triple check.
  • Stripes. Check.
  • Colorblocking. Check.
  • Flatforms. Ugh… Check.

Not so tacky now, is she?  A funny site I came across while doing my reconnaissance work for this post called, Should Be On the Nanny, pinpoints just how “on point” Fran was with her over the top outfits.  I often find myself sitting in front of the TV screen thinking one of two things: “I have that outfit” or “I need that outfit.”  If you, too, are channeling your inner girl from Flushing here are some Nanny-approved outfits to hop on your boss’s desk in:

1. Anne Klein New York Polka Dot Silk Georgette Blouse, $136.50, 2. Spring & Clifton Rumour Mini Skirt, $121, 3. Alice + Olivia Nicola Leopard Print Dress, $297, 4. Alice + Olivia Yoko Floral Flutter Sleeve Blouse, $275, 5. Truly Madly Deeply Mini Pencil Skirt, $32, 6. Jonathan Saunders Chilton Embellished Silk Mini Dress, $717.50, 7. bebe Neon Mesh Panel Dress, $129, 8. Theory Elizabeth Short Sleeved Turtleneck Top, $85, 9. Forever 21 Pretty Plaid Skirt, $19.80, 10. Asos Bandeau Leopard Jumpsuit, $53.79, 11. All Saints Mohan Leather Jacket, $395, 12. Report Signature Black Stretch Winston Platform Over the Knee Boots, $252, 13. Bettye Muller Caprice Wedges, $185, 14. Charlotte Olympia Miranda Leopard Platform Wedge, $902, 15. D&G Shocking Rose Black Bow Silk Top, $315, 16. BB Dakota Lance Plaid Skirt, $34, 17. Betsey Johnson Kiss Cotton Jersey Crop Top, $128, 18. French Connection Fast Dazzi Sequin Skirt, $101.99

And that’s how she became the nanny…

Friday Frocks: Dress the Part

By |December 24th, 2010|Friday Frocks|

If there’s one theme we should all be able to get behind, it’s gotta be the beautiful holly berry red of Christmas.  You can totally pull it off without looking absolutely ridiculous and it’s a hell of a lot better than those wretched “ugly Christmas sweater” parties. (Who thinks- better yet participates- in such things?) Anyway, why not get into the holiday spirit by slipping into something that would make even Santa smile? Besides, you’ve gotta find something to put on with those cherry red lips.

Herve Leger Engineered Ottoman Zip Dress, $1,450

Notte by Marchesa Big Ruffle Cocktail Dress, $660

Rebecca Minkoff Necklace Silk Dress, $429

Amanda Uprichard Ella Flutter Sleeve Dress, $205

T-bags One Shoulder Dress, $190

bebe Pintuck Satin Sheath Dress, $149

Victoria’s Secret Short and Flirty Multi-Way Dress, $79

Exrpess Ruched Strapless Dress, $49

ho ho ho!
