How To Tuesday: Roped In

rope braidIt’s probably a pretty bad sign when the people at your local watering hole all gush about how great you look because it’s pretty much the first time they’ve ever seen your hair look anything less than a lion’s mane.  While I spent the majority of my late teens and early twenties attempting to tame the beast that is my hair, I eventually began to embrace and encourage the natural wavy/curly/frizzy texture.  However, summer is just about to be upon us and that humidity and my hair have bigger beef than Jay-Z and Solange.  Therefore, it is crucial to come up with clever ways to disguise the duress and one way of doing so is with a rope braid.  Upon first glance, I thought I would never master this style, but how could the queen of fishtail braids not accept the challenge?  It took a few “spins” to get it right, but once I did, I was happy to add this hairstyle to my summer arsenal.

Beauty Buzz: Go Naked
Written by: WhyDid | Beauty Buzz

artistic nudeWe’re all already obsessed with Urban Decay’s Naked Palette (and Naked 2 Palette) with good reason.  And if you’re not, well, get obsessed.  One day, while picking up some essentials from Sephora, I got sucked into the sample section.  It’s like the Bermuda Triangle for beauty junkies.  Steer clear or risk having no groceries for the next week.  Along with a purse size tube of L’Occitane Hand Cream, I snagged a sample of Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Beauty Balm.  I mean, why not?

Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm

The claim is that it’s an “instant retoucher in a tube.”  With five different skin benefits including SPF 20 and anti-aging ingredients, this balm is like one stop shopping.  As mentioned, I don’t love a lot of makeup on my skin and this beauty balm, goes on so smooth and light that sometimes I feel like I haven’t put enough on.  However, when I peer at my reflection in the mirror, my skin literally does look like it’s been photoshopped.  It quickly evens skintone and reduces the appearance of pores and fine lines,  although you will probably still need a concealer to hide any unsightly behemoth blemishes, like the one I use from Miracle Skin Transformer.  The only thing I found a bit odd about this formula was the slightly minty scent.  It’s not offensive.  It just sort of seems off.  If you’re looking for the perfect lightweight summer skin smoother, grab a tube… but steer clear of the samples.

Would You Wednesday: Fresh Shave

side shave hairstylesRecently, I’ve noticed quite a few songstresses and celebrities with a very daring hairstyle created by shaving one side of their heads and leaving the rest of their locks long.  I must admit it, it’s an undeniably edgy look that the average wallflower couldn’t pull off, but it makes me a little nervous.  I’m pretty attached (both literally and figuratively) to my tresses and if you think bangs are hard to grow out, I can’t imagine what kind of fun ensues when trying to even out your follicles once one tires of the look.  On the upside, I suppose it’d cut drying time in half.

So would you try the look?

Chop, chop.
