You know what I like almost as much as cashmere sweaters, puppies, and unicorns? Boots! A great pair of boots (or twenty) makes winter and the impending arctic ice storms (almost) bearable. When I think about corduroy, typically Birkenstocks and granola bars come to mind. It’s been a while since corduroy has been en vogue (though that hasn’t stopped the fine folks of Northern California), but it would seem this fall, the textured textile has made its way back into top boutiques and fashion forward brands fall offerings.

And while wide wale cords sound anything but appealing, I’ve gotta admit… this season’s versions have really grown on me. In slim cuts and updated colors they look more modern than those of our American Eagle wide legged past. And what’s better than finally being able to combine fashion and function when the fahrenheit starts to dip?

Spring and summer 2012 brought us colored and printed denim… so what precisely does the fall have in store for us in the way of denim? Brace yourselves… if brands have it their way… everyday is going to be a party. Aww sookie sookie now. Denim takes a cue from the disco era with metallic shades ranging from pure platinum to glamorous gold.

I want to say that I like it because as I think about it, I’m picturing the likes of Gisele and Miranda channeling their 70’s disco divas in shiny jeans and feathered hair, but then I remember that 98% of the population does not resemble that of a super model. This is when I start to think about ol’ Sally over there, three cubicles down sporting the trend and all of a sudden it’s anything but appealing (kind of like the tuna fish sandwich she’s chowing down on). This is most definitely one of those trends that could either be le freak c’est chic or just totally lay a gasser…

Why Did You Wear That: Urban Art

A couple of weekends ago while down in LA we went on a hunt for some of the remaining graffiti covered walls. I don’t mean like your random spraypaint tag. I wanted big colorful murals reminiscent of Paula Abdul’s Opposites Attract (um, hello MC Skat!). Much of Los Angeles’ “donated” artwork has been cleaned up by the city, but there is a little spot in Hollywood that is so boldly decorated, that you really can’t miss it. For an afternoon adventure, I put on a pair of my (current) favorite skinny cropped 7’s, a sheer T-shirt and a pair of oxfords- which, to me, are the alternative to an ultra classic and somewhat girly ballet flat.
