WhyDid Wisdom: Moving Right Along…

By |November 2nd, 2009|WhyDid Wisdom|

In my mere four years of living in New York City, I’ve lived in SIX different apartments. I’ve basically lived all the way up and down the westside.  First there was our summer sublet on 63rd and West End, followed by my first solo apartment right smack dab in the middle of Meatpacking. When I could no longer take the bottle popping noise from Wednesday through Sunday, I moved up to proper Chelsea to one of my very favorite apartments ever. Unfortunately, the owner sold it and I was back on the apartment hunt. I was, then, lucky enough to spend the next year living with one of my best college girlfriends.  At the end of that lease we both made the incredibly wise decision to move in with our significant others (sense the sarcasm?).  I moved into a beautiful apartment in Tribeca, where I lived for the past six months.  I thought this was the last stop on the train (at least for a while). I painted and decorated and made a beautiful home… and then, the fairytale turned more into a horror story.  When things crumbled for good, I again, was on the prowl for the perfect apartment.

Luckily, with the help of a couple amazing girlfriends, I managed to secure the holy grail as far as apartments for single girls in the city go. We had looked at several different apartments and felt more discouraged the more we looked.  Finally, we opened the door to the last one, and as cheesy as it sounds, we all teared up and knew this was “the one.”  So now, here I am in my new home with my loyal sidekick (my pup).  Now that the boxes are unpacked, it’s time to decorate. Feeling the need for a serious change (and not the kind that involves chopping/dying of my hair), I have decided to ditch my typical Moroccan/Bohemian look and have decided to go for “Mod Glam.”  My furniture (which I refuse to part with) is a bit modern, with clean lines, while my color scheme, pillows, and rugs suggest more of an old Hollywood glamorous feel.  Therefore, I have decided to combine them to create my very own girly space.  Below are some photos where I pulled my inspiration.

P.S. I clearly consider myself a bit of a “moving expert” at this point. So, if you ever have questions or need suggestions, I’m your girl.

www.flatrate.com (highly recommend)- they may seem a bit more expensive, but it’s well worth it. I had a HORRIFIC experience with Oz Moving this go around.

National Lampoons Halloween Holiday

Just in case you are having a tough time getting into the Halloween spirit…  Wheeling, West Virginia feels about Halloween decorations the way the Griswalds feel about Christmas lights.  I like to call this little ditty “Why Did You Decorate That?”

Give a Dog a Bone

By |October 28th, 2009|Uncategorized|

I’m not sure if I’ve made this clear, but I’m totally obsessed with my dog. I actually have a hard time believing he is a dog (watch it, Cesar Milan) and sometimes think of him as a little man. So, while walking around the West Village last week, I stumbled upon something amazing. It’s a little place called PARIERO-NY. Bascially, doggy heaven.

Racks of designer dog apparel, leashes, and collars. You know my pup had to leave with something.  He ended up with a shirt that says, “I love my girlfriend.” (This has created quite a debate between my friends over who, exactly, his girlfriend is).  If you are as crazy about your canine as I am, you should definitely go for a visit.

I love costumes. Give me a reason to wear one and I’m THERE.  Seriously, ask my bf. He’s come home many times to a sassy secretary or desperate housewife.  Well, Halloween is just around the corner, so I thought I’d give some helpful costume suggestions.  I tried to dig up some of my all time favorites of my own, but didn’t have much luck.

For Groups:

Football team (or another sports team): We did this years ago and it was a big hit copied for several years after. We literally came up with a team name (the Vixens), mascot (a fox), and put numbers and nicknames on the back.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Yeah, we attempted to do this one year. While I thought it was brilliant, not everyone was ecstatic about the green unitards from American Apparel.  I still think it’s hilarious and would make an amazing group costume.

Cast of Sex and the City: Kind of tame, but pretty easy to pull off. However, there may be a dispute over who gets to be Carrie and who gets stuck as Miranda.

Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney Kardashian: Tight dresses, padded derrieres, and don’t forget the baby bump for Kourtney.

Bret Michaels and Rock of Love Girls: Um, amazing. Enough said.

Flying Solo:

Lady Gaga: there will probably be a ton of these, but any good reason to wear a blonde wig and leotard should be taken advantage of.

Ana Wintour: (a slutty Ana) is kind of amazing. Get a sweet bob wig and some big black glasses.

Vampire: (a slutty one, obviously). If you aren’t feeling too adventurous, jump on the vampire bandwagon. For some reason, don’t ask me why, people are totally vampire crazy.

Devil in a Blue Dress: This actually came from my mom (clever as always). It’s perfect for a more tame Halloween party or somewhere that you don’t want your entire abdomen showing.  Get a cute blue dress and devil horns, voila!

Couples:

Pam and Jim from The Office: Not particularly sexy, but who doesn’t love Pam and Jim?

Jon and Kate (Plus 8): This could be pretty brilliant. You may have to stop by the local Toys R Us and pick up some dolls, and you will probably lose several throughout the night, but that makes it an even better costume.

Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf: Pretty self explanatory, no?

Each Other: This could be really funny. Dress like each other and exaggerate their characteristics. This could also prove to be very good couple’s therapy.

Happy haunting!
