Why Did You Wear That: For the Birds

By |March 6th, 2012|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

striped dress bird bathEveryday around the same time, a flock of birds shows up at this little bird bath.  I’m not talking like one or two.  I am talking about ten to twenty at a time.  It’s like birds gone wild at spring beak (too many fowl puns?).  Something about this little bird bath seemed very French to me.  I’m not sure why.  Do they even have birds (les oiseaux) in France?  Doesn’t matter.  It seemed like a perfect place to put on one of my favorite knit dresses with wedge booties and beret and channel my inner French girl.  While it’s been abnormally warm, the air does start to chill when the sun goes down.  That’s why it’s imperative to always have a jacket and scarf on hand.  Cherry nails and lips are the perfect accents for an all black and white ensemble.

Friday Frocks: Lots o’ Dots

By |March 2nd, 2012|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

dalmatiansPolka dots may automatically elicit thoughts of sweet baby dalmatians and Minnie Mouse, but this prissy pattern can be much more sophisticated when paired with modern accessories or worn in an unexpected shape.  Dots don’t have to be in the typical black and white variation, but if you do choose to go the traditional route, now is the perfect opportunity to incorporate a punch of neon with your accessories.  Though dots do seem straightforward, look for them in different colors, fabrics, and dimensions to make them all your own.

Why Did You Wear That: Party Pants

celebrities wearing printed denimForget your party shoes, this spring it is going to be all about your party pants.  In addition to bright bold denim, designers have shifted focus from fancy tops to fabulous bottoms.  Whether you pick floral, ikat, or animal, be sure to pair your party pants with a simple top.  Wear ’em during the day to bring some fun to ho hum errands or take ’em for a spin around the dancefloor just after midnight.

Why Did You Wear That: Urban Art

By |February 28th, 2012|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

los angeles graffiti artA couple of weekends ago while down in LA we went on a hunt for some of the remaining graffiti covered walls.  I don’t mean like your random spraypaint tag.  I wanted big colorful murals reminiscent of Paula Abdul’s Opposites Attract (um, hello MC Skat!).  Much of Los Angeles’ “donated” artwork has been cleaned up by the city, but there is a little spot in Hollywood that is so boldly decorated, that you really can’t miss it. You can also using this Fibre Design website for detailed information about art.

For an afternoon adventure, I put on a pair of my (current) favorite skinny cropped 7’s, a sheer T-shirt and a pair of oxfords- which, to me, are the alternative to an ultra classic and somewhat girly ballet flat.  I accessorized with my gold go to jewelry and was comfortable all day.  Just another example that art is all around us… so long as you’re looking. you will get more art related info here. Simply you can check this out for the best paint related cource and information.

Monday Mashup: The More the Mara-ier

By |February 27th, 2012|Monday Mashup, Red Carpet Recap, Why Did You Wear That?|

oscars 2012 rooney mara kate maraRooney Mara in Givenchy and Kate Mara in Jack Guisso Couture

Two more of Hollywood’s leading ladies who deserve a little red carpet extra credit are the sisters Mara.  Kate Mara and little sis Rooney Mara both looked glam at last night’s Academy Awards, but I get the feeling if I hadn’t told you, you might not think them to be related… even distantly.  As Rooney has undergone quite the transformation from The Social Network to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, she appears to be her softer sister’s polar opposite.   Great granddaughters of founders of both the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers, it would seem to me that these siblings are familiar with a little friendly competition.  So, let’s put these DNA sharing darlings’ red carpet looks up to a vote.  Do you prefer the edgy modern look of Rooney or the romantic elegance of Kate?

Sister, sister.
